QUESTION OF THE DAY

Will New Zealand join Austria, Australia, Italy, Israel, Switzerland and the United States in refusing to sign the UN's Global Compact on Migration which contests the meme that there is no automatic right to migrate to another country without that countries full agreement.

National has already come out and said 'No way Josey'.

So far a deafening silence from the CoL.     This could well be make or break for NZ First given their previous anti-immigration stance (albeit slightly frayed around the edges as of late).

Scary though it is it looks like Winston is the best and perhaps only chance of NZ not signing. I have just read over at the Herald that he is now thinking about it because it MIGHT impact on New Zealand's sovereignty at some time in the future.

The incompetent Lees-Galloway is all for it.

Australia, Israel, and the United States, all nations built on illegal immigration now want to put a stop to legal immigration. The irony hurts.

oops, left of New Zild.

Errrr no, David.

NZ left you out. So that you can pursue more fantasies about history and immigration.

David ... your convoluted thinking continues to astound. Are you saying that no country has the right to refuse entry to non-citizens of that country. If that were true then it is surely a recipe for anarchy. You are a self-proclaimed, hard left socialist. Are we to amend that to a self-proclaimed, hard left socialist, anarchist.

In your crusade to establish heaven on earth and your clear distaste for the status quo Pavlov's dog and you are becoming indistinguishable.

Instead of asking me, ask the Australian Aborigines, The maori, The Palestinians, the various tribes of Turtle Island, The South American indigenes, et al.

You are the privileged successor to colonial invaders and you are unwilling to extend that privilege to others.

David

Are you auditioning for Dick of the Week?

You conflate immigration with colonization.

Did you learn the art of conflation at your mother's breast?

BTW, Maori were immigrants themselves. They didn't ask permission of the Mori Ori. They chopped them up and ate them. Your so-called Palestinians are a figment of the left's imagination. They are Arabs who picked the losing side in a devastating war with Israel. They do not have a country and the way they are going, egged on by fools like you, they never will have.

At the risk of, once again, being accused of "threadjacking" I cannot let Adolf get away with his lies or misunderstandings.

Yep, Maori immigrated to New Zealand, but there were no Moriroi on Te Ika a Maui or Te Wai Pounamu. The Moriori were settled on the Chathams, and probably navigated there from Polynesia. They were later attacked by two tribes from Taranaki who had been dispossessed in the musket wars, so to blame, as you do, all Maori is both historically inaccurate and deceitful. And who was it who drove the Taranaki Maori to the Chathams, your ancestors, the invaders.

Your so-called Palestinians are a figment of the left's imagination.

Funny dat, but I am sure your imaginary friend Jesus, was "born" IN Palestine. So, no Palestine, where was he born? Don't tell me "The Bible" lied!!!

They do not have a country and the way they are going ...

Yes, being shoved off their land by the ever encroaching Lebensraum preaching Zionists. Aided and abetted by American money and hardware, the Zionists have made sure that there will only ever be a one state solution, with them at the top and the Palestinians at the bottom. Apartheid, I call it.

International cooperation: The Global Compact is a non-legally binding cooperative framework that recognizes that no State can address migration on its own due to the inherently transnational nature of the phenomenon. It requires international, regional and bilateral cooperation and dialogue. Its authority rests on its consensual nature, credibility, collective ownership, joint implementation, follow-up and review. National sovereignty: The Global Compact reaffirms the sovereign right of States to determine their national migration policy and their prerogative to govern migration within their jurisdiction, in conformity with international law. Within their sovereign jurisdiction, States may distinguish between regular and irregular migration status, including as they determine their legislative and policy measures for the implementation of the Global Compact, taking into account different national realities, policies, priorities and requirements for entry, residence and work, in accordance with international law. Rule of law and due process: The Global Compact recognizes that respect for the rule of law,

Aaaaaaah

So David wants the world to revert to the borders which existed in 100 BC.

That explains so much. I'm not sue Stalin would have approved.

Gerald ... you're repeating Peters' gobbledygook and particularly the bit about it being non-binding. So, why sign up to a non-binding agreement in the first place especially if you weren't committed to carrying through with it ... more virtue signalling by a government that dines out on virtue signalling perhaps.

Peters was non-committal this morning but now he's been called back into line by Labour and the Greens ... all this from an anti-immigration Party ... pathetic.

David said...

You conflate immigration with colonization.

So why did "the world" decide to go to war with Germany? The Kaiser only wanted to "colonise" Belgium and Hitler was simply "colonising" Poland. Or is it only "colonisation" when the the "colonised" are not white?

Another boring, junkyard-dog lashout from David.

I'm not repeating Peters.
It's in the document.
Have you read it??????????????

Gerald ... it is kinda sad when the unthinking start believing their own propaganda.

Answer me this question then ... if nothings changed then why the need for the compact?

Until such time as you can distinguish between Migrants, refugees and asylum seekers you are just whistling into the wind. Davids rants and Veterans pontification are no more helpful in understanding the problem than Walters one liners.

https://www.habitatforhumanity.org.uk/blog/2016/09/refugees-asylum-seekers-migrants-crucial-difference/

Whatever decision you come to New Zealand is unlikely to be impacted to the extent of some European countries so we should not get to precious about what the Govt does or doesn't do.

The fact that some families in impoverished and wartorn states send their firstborn males off to seek their fortune in western countries whose streets are paved with gold is well documented. In must be said in their defence that the the usual reason they are war ravaged and impoverished is because for the last 80 years our "democracies" have propped up the bad bastards in order to extract strategic or mineral rights and any local who suggested that they retain some of their own money to put into nation building were invariably labelled "Communist rebels" by the western Press.

Yet hundreds of thousands of British families sent their first born out into the colonies and recently conquered territories to escape poverty and seek their fortunes, most found only more poverty and very little fortune so the beginning of the First world war was a godsend, a way of getting home by joining a colonial army. Simpson of the Donkey fame is a case in point....couldn't stand Australia and desperately homesick.

Interesting that Australia was heavily involved in authoring the document yet pulled.

"The agreement’s final draft, released this month, says countries should agree to “review and revise” laws that sanction irregular entry and allow the use of immigration detention “as a deterrent”.

Those who have changed tack have some of those elements in their immigration policy.

Do we???????

The number of countries that won't sign up to the compact has grown to include Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United States.

Their concern can be summed up by the Austrian Chancellor who stated the compact would reduce Austria's sovereignty and mix up the difference between illegal and legal immigration as well as that between economic and humanitarian immigration.

Egbut ... reflect on those words against what you wrote .... the compact has the potential to treat migrants, refugees (of all shapes and sizes) and asylum seekers as one and the same. On that basis you should share my opposition.

Gerald said...

No Noel We do not.
It was National that would not raise the lack of reciprocal support for Kiwis with a Special Category Visa so Bridges response is not surprising.

Veteran.....no it does not. Well, with exception of those right wing govts that choose read the act in the interests of their agenda. Herr Kurz is a right wing politician in country that has never lost it's fascination with the Nazi party.

Austria.....Spiritual home of an ex house painter and had an ex Waffen SS commnadeer as boss..Kurt Waldheim.

Australia......the white Australia policy has never gone away.

Bulgaria........."Flawed democracy" with an unstable Govt. Not long to remain in the EU unless they sort out the rampant corruption.

Croatia.....Like Bulgari,a a part of the Balkans. Nobody ever understood them, not even Churchill.

Hungary....Extreme right wing party in power and not long for the EU if it does not restore the rule of law.

Italy.....Another rightwing populist party that is trying to introduce a fatnasy budget to please it's fan base......will probably be asked to leave the common currency.....just look for the crater.

Switzerland....probably the most xenophobic country on the planet. Even I don't have enough money to get residency.

Israel.........What a fucking surprise 0ops I mean feeking.

The US........See above.

Now lets talk about countries with proper governments....
