Minister collins is due to release the inquiry report on fuel pricing any day now.

Will it make known anything not already known.

I never buy "Z" and since they were allowed to buy Caltex they also are in my 'boycot'.

So it is Nelson Petroleum, NPD and McKeown with BP and their AA card discounts as backup.

NPD sell here in Akaroa through Brian Little's Auto Center at Town prices honouring Discount chits from Supermarkets and full discounts to Gold Card holders. The Nelson based Company came to play here when the "New Zealand owned" "Z" being the great community supporting outfit it says it is trumpeted to the nation, pulled out from Akaroa 80 Kms along SH75 from CHC

McKeown are establishing a network in out of the way places where the big boys prefer to close down and uplift their tanks. Mayfield, Methven, Fairlie, Parnassus and even in The Catlins listed in their website among many others.
Both McK and NPD beat the monopolies by 20 cpl, minimum so it is no Mystery that Stuff today is reporting a drop of 30cpl in Taranaki when Gull came to play.

The one fact that has me puzzled comes with my understanding Mobil supply NPD, I have no idea who McKeown gets fuel from and it matters not as the Company that originated in Oamaru has its own cards and discounts to Agriculture, its first focus, Movanners, Jet Boaters, among others,  make their one price across the SI very useful to those who find themselves low on fuel in out of the way places.

Minister Collins will be reported to,  that pricing is complex and subject to many variables but will it reveal the predatory pricing of "Z"/Caltex where competitive pressure is low, probably not, that mob tells us everyday how community focused they are. BS at wholesale rates!!

Comments on the police/arms post suggest that carrying a firearm in public is reason for over the top  reaction to tell plod a terrorist is on the loose.

Taking that as the new normal and  justified I guess;
All those men who choose the ubiquitous 'track pants' as affordable comfortable warm clothing are rapists going to work,
A Chef in kitchen garb taking a knife to a function in another dining area is about to engage in an atrocity,
Carrying an axe to the car from the hardware store, quick call 111,
An old man raising his voice to tell his hard of hearing missus to wait there is about to give her the bash.

Or is it just possible that lawful activity has been raised by ignorance and alarmist fake news to absurd levels of paranoia.

I am about to head out for milk, mid afternoon in my SUV with bull bars and off road tyres, better warn plod I have nefarious intentions, and it will conform to the new normal for the AOS to stop me and act as the morons did at Dunsandal to bring Richard Lincoln to his deserved date with destiny for merely doing what the letter of the law states he must do to be compliant
Hell I might be a little more alarmed if a dodgy bastard had a partially concealed weapon in his possession, going for a pee, he could be having a pre flight/fight desire to take a piss befor heading to the bank.

Snowflakes of the world unite, Lincoln was being lawful, I seriously doubt Plods actions were as compliant.

That is a Question No One Wants answered,---- apparently?

While writhing on the floor conniptions are pointing out to the more intelligent that McCarten and his grandiose educational opportunity for waifs and strays wanting to study how a mainstream New Zealand Party 'engineers' electoral success with accompanying lectures from current leader, past leader and Uncle Tom Cobleigh, it has absolutely nothing to link the shomozzle to Parliamentary Labour, Kiwiblog asks a pertinent question.

A cost of the educational once in a lifetime opportunity is being hinted at over NZ$250 000.
Now I am guessing that sort of money has not lain un-noticed under a last years diary in a bottom drawer of an unoccupied desk in Frazer House, plus it is speculated that without investments from unions entering the lists, NZLP funds are rather scarce,  has someone done a trial run for Red Russel's printing press, that cemented the marriage of convenience as the "Dowry"

More likely and embarrassing might just come when the mystery donor of in excess of a rumoured  100K  is eventually revealed, it might make sense of the link that Mr Little is in denial over.

I subscribe to the theory of perpetual certainty,  when Martyn Martin, Mat McCarten, Angry Andy, 'Skirten' Kirton and Saint Nigel  are involved, accompanying a distinct quacking from a waddling duck, that duck becomes a prime 'person of interest'.
Subsequent claims of  'Nothing to do with NZLP'  will rapidly morph into dark comedy with a topping of skeptic whipped cream with hundreds and thousands.
About 250 perhaps?

While those in NZ who lament the lurch of National to the center left in the face of MMP reality, things seem so much better and more stable than our West Island Cousins are embroiled in currently

At present Tony Abbott who replaced Turnbull as leader of the then Opposition Liberal National coalition  confronting Kevin Rudd then after the electorate handed control to Gillard as head of a  Minority Government supported by a ragtag bunch of flakes that included a Liberal MP who became Speaker and turned traitor to the party that enabled his election, finally by exploiting a chaotic ALP won a strong mandate and become Prime Minister.
Turnbull had never let it go and he then, with a bunch of MPs who it could be said were in the wrong party knifed Abbott because polling did nothing to assist Abbott and his Treasurer Hocky as they grappled with massive deficit buget  figures.

Three years of Turnbull reveals nothing more than a second Socialist party struggling to gain traction over the other, the Union backed outfit led by Shorten.

Now Tony Abbott who remains an MP is being excoriated for destabilising Turnbull, wallowing in polls worse than those he used to justify his "Brutus" act as he tries to out Labor Labor.
Having decided to ignore spending and deficit levels that are graver than those Rudd Gillard Rudd delivered under economic denial on industrial scale from Wayne Swan, are being justified by a piss weak rearrangement of deck chairs hiden by a sheet loosely describing good and bad debt financing from current Treasurer Scott Morrison.

I have a modicom of sympathy for the destructive polarisatin Abbott is perpetrating but everything that Menzies acheived by getting disparate groups of conservatives to join to oppose Labor so successfully is being eroded by Turnbulls socialism and somewhere those who wish viable conservatism to prevail must decide to make a stand. The little weasel Pyne a Turnbull front bencher who inadvertantly made his left leaning no longer a secret in a secret recording at a Liberal meeting in Melbourne where he bragged the "left faction were in control",  Tony Abbott, whatever one might think about his current stand, is facing Hobsons Choice.
Does he stay true to his conservative view of The Australian Liberals built by Menzies or stand aside while Turnbull trashes the "brand".
As I stated I have some sympathy for Abbott and the dilemma he faces.

It just gets worse for the little man.    In an interview with Morning Report Little said the programme wasn't sanctioned, approved or authorised by the Labour Party despite it being run our of Labour's Auckland office by his former Chief of Staff who was on his (Little's) payroll.

Further, that he has no knowledge of the scheme despite being in Auckland every week ... that is simply unbelievable ... either Little is an idiot or he is taking you and me to be idiots.

But then he proceeded to shoot himself in the foot (twice).    In the interview he admitted that when McCarten first floated the idea with him earlier this year (bang goes his assertion that he had no knowledge of the scheme) he told him (McCarten) it was a Party issue and a campaign issue.

Who is the head of the Party ... Nigel Haworth.   Who is the Campaign Chair ... Phil Twyford, ranked #4 in the Labour caucus.    How does it feel to the thrown under a bus chaps?

Why The Democrats Have No Show

It's the economy stupid.

Have a look at the unemployment figures here and then go figure.   By any measure, a substantial improvement over the Obama era of fundamental transformation into an economic basket case.

A reduction in total unemployed of 100 basis points since inauguration is nothing but Yuuuuuuuuuge!

MeasureNot seasonally adjustedSeasonally adjusted
U-1 Persons unemployed 15 weeks or longer, as a percent of the civilian labor force
U-2 Job losers and persons who completed temporary jobs, as a percent of the civilian labor force
U-3 Total unemployed, as a percent of the civilian labor force (official unemployment rate)
U-4 Total unemployed plus discouraged workers, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus discouraged workers
U-5 Total unemployed, plus discouraged workers, plus all other persons marginally attached to the labor force, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force
U-6 Total unemployed, plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force
NOTE: Persons marginally attached to the labor force are those who currently are neither working nor looking for work but indicate that they want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the past 12 months. Discouraged workers, a subset of the marginally attached, have given a job-market related reason for not currently looking for work. Persons employed part time for economic reasons are those who want and are available for full-time work but have had to settle for a part-time schedule. Updated population controls are introduced annually with the release of January data.

It is no secret I have an attraction to fire arms that is seen by far too many as unhealthy.

A five shot Browning shotty, a .303 sniper rifle, a .22 semi with ten round mags and silencer for subsonic and another ten round mag for long rifle ammo a .22 magnum to make things very difficult for Possums and vermin with a five round mag and bolt action are  included in a collection that will be dispersed eventually.
I spent some time  as an Arms Licence adjunct until parsimonious attitude from a well paid salaried officer caused a rupture in employment matters,  Marksman qualifications as a school cadet and later miniature rifle competition participation that saw a 100.10 score included, I am rather self confident  in matters shooting.
So I take any assault on what I believe is a world class system permitting the privilege of Firearm ownership rather personal and recent crusading by the latest minion who succeeded O'Connor as police union rep is causing a serious erosion in confidence with the Police role in fire arms licensing and secure storage of citizen arms.
NZ kills far more people with motor vehicles yet the registration of those is not a police matter, storage and security when compared to fire arms is laughable and there are increasing tales of systemic failure in police handling of weapons security but they pale when stats are compared to vehicle involvement in crime.
Hell their track record in matters of AOS is not exactly inspirational with a barrage to kill animals on motorways, the killing of an innocent victim caught in crossfire in another incident and regular reports of inadequate standards exhibited by armed Plods.

So today a post at Whaleoil on a total shomozzle involving  outcomes when an "E" category licence to own firearms person, travelling from Timaru with a weapon to Yaldhurst to a prearranged appointment  to have work carried out on the weapon, was twice reported to 111 for doing lawful actions that maybe a little confrontational to an ignorant snowflake.
He stopped in Ashburton and went to a restroom for a pee. It appears in total compliance with the Arms regs, he removed the weapon from his vehicle and carried it with him to the toilet, IE kept the weapon secure in possession unloaded in public  at all times.
Further up SH 1 at Dunsandel he was pulled over by a police road block, ordered out of his vehicle and ordered to kneel with his hands on his head, further on accusations of obstructing police was arrested and taken back to Ashvegas Police HQ.

Now if half what is recorded in the Slater's blog summary is true then my case for removal of Licensing and storage of weapons to be removed from Police and handled by The Justice Department needs no further evidence. The police acted with astonishing levels of stupidity, incompetence and totally at odds with the rules of licensing including serious departures from and ignorance of the law and when the rights of Citizen Richard Lincoln are considered, a veritable bonfire of disaster management is revealed.

In the light of what is public around the WINZ office killings is considered  the actions and reactions of plod that seemed so exposed in the ability of Russell John Tully to perpetrate his appalling efforts may have links but this unrelated incident seems to expose matters that needed to be addressed "yesterday".
Disturbing does not come close but do your own discovery and come back to me.

Like tens of thousands of other Kiwis I was up at 5.00 am this morning to watch the race ... even offered Memsahib a cup of tea which she did NOT appreciate.    And we did it.    Little old Team NZL beat the Americans (whose budget probably exceeded our GDP) by some quite brilliant sailing.

David slew Goliath.    I bet that has Big Bad Dennis Connor (Mr America's Cup) choking in his muesli.

Well done guys (and guyesses) ... you're the best.

p.s.   Wonder what was in those Louis Vuitton duffle-bags presented to team members who threw them into the crowd?

The Brits have voted to leave the EU.    Currently all the talk appears to be directed at securing a 'soft' Brexit.

Now someone will correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that a hard Brexit (favoured by the discredited UKIP and a rump of Tories) means the severing of the ties with Europe and going it alone whereas a soft Brexit is based around keeping the bits you like (say zero tariffs) and binning the bad ones (ergo open boarders) ... something akin to having your cake and eating it too.

Seems to me that many calling for a soft Brexit are missing the point completely ... namely that the EU holds many of the negotiating aces.   Why should they agree to the Brits keeping the good stuff and discarding the bits they don't like ... what advantage is there for them in that?    Surely and if the EU were to make major concessions this would work to strengthen the hand of the Euro-skeptic parties in other member states.  Why would the EU want to do that?.

Or am I missing something completely?   I look forward to Lord Egbut's take on this as a dedicated Europhile.
