YOU DON"T SAY?

It is oft repeated: "A week is a long time in politics".

Yesterday in a few minutes the New National Party leadership ended any realistic, if long-shot, chance of denying the Ardernearly one person-band another three years in government.

Tyro leader Todd Muller folded up his entire integrity and tossed it into the waiting rubbish bin being held by the media pack.

He had a Trump MAGA hat: so what, he also had Killary buttons. So  instead of asking the very first media whore who questioned such a minor blip, do you have a "Che T Shirt"?, the dopy fool said it was all now boxed and hidden away.

I assume his testicles are now in a jar of formalin as well.

That wound became a life threatening blood loss for the now struggling bunch of inept wets who, in a lemming like rush to a cliff top they are still building, compounded that strategic error into a total disaster when challenged on the "diversity" of the post-Bridges shadow line up.

Instead of trumpeting the gender imbalance that even the Melons might agree with, as in three well- regarded-by-others-as-talented humans who were claimed as the female gender,  Nikki Kaye - who I suspect may have been so successful in denying Ardern in Auckland Central by being so far left it was a genuine toss of a penny - then launched an episode of foot-shooting rarely seen live on State TV.

Cripes, even Kelvin 'the invisible man' Davis looked good by comparison.

A media that assisted in the annihilation of of two part-Maori who held the two top positions in the National Party, then went for Mullet's lineup where the most senior part-bred was at seventeen in Shane Reti. The two dopes then pulled out their now empty pistols and aimed for each others feet in a Keystone Cop routine that made slapstick a returning genre in TV entertainment.

More years ago than I care to remember I was in Gisborne on an Annual Hereford tour where the ensemble were bussed to a valley that, after WW2, was divided up into twenty farms for settling returning soldiers. The Mangatu Corporation had bought back the entire twenty farms and were running an integrated farming operation where one of the farms ran a Hereford Cattle stud to provide genetics for the  enterprise. Another former farm was dedicated as a Romney sheep stud.

During this tour, with what was an impressive bunch of Maori leaders taking control of their recent past without any Waitangi Tribunal BS by just being smart business operators,  I got into a conversation with an older Maori man and asked, amongst other inquiries, if the leadership used the clear-to-me opportunity to advance the youth connected to their tribal group.

His rather startling reply was very brief and to the point, now revealed in the very successful Nhai Tahu setup: "We seek and employ the very best we can discover for each and every position without reference to any qualification other than expertise involved in the job to be done." Race, gender and any other aspect just did not register in such searches, from shepherds to executives.

The only National MP to emerge from the Mullet "muck dumping in their own driveway"  yesterday was Collins who merely asked if it was a problem, her being "white"?

I have some background that maybe puts some relevance into the bear trap Muller and in particular Ms Kaye lept into as regards Heke Goldsmith.

Around the closing decade last century, in a moment of exasperation at the idiocy contained in the scheduled census was exposed when I came to questions on ethnicity, I put a line through the options and wrote in "I am a native born New Zealander". That resulted in the claimed secrecy of the data being somewhat compromised when Sir Paul Reeves and others in succeeding years offered me assistance to discover my Iwi, even my Hapu, when the actual facts as far as I know, were that my blood lines consist entirely of Ngati Celt from various areas of Scotland.

So, Mr Heke Goldsmith, if it would be of any assistance, just make it up and then stick to it. You might as well, as in succeeding years with statistics and electoral do-goodercrats,  it is much harder to get out than to get "in".

I am still regularly offered the "Maori Roll" option while Swmbo is never treated to such taonga and she has Brown eyes???

I do wonder how you can make a huge cock-up when your testicles are in a formalin jar. Amazing skill. Muller, just another gutless wonder. I don't really expect much integrity from politicians, but to display that lack so soon, was still a bit surprising to me.
{I really want Labour et al to be gone soon}

Sad, but what more could be expected from such a pair of wets. It would seem that National is indeed a lost cause.

National is a Center Right party and following a poll in the twenties decided that it needed to attract rightish labour voters by moving towards the Center. Muller and Kaye are poised to give labour a good run for it’s money and have a very good chance of being able to form the government with Act come Sept 19. Our objective is to pull over hundreds of thousands of voters from labour and it won’t matter if you lose a few to Act. You can have great ideological principles and end up like the British Labour Party under Corban or get pragmatic.

Well, I imagine that both Tom and Gravedodger would say there are way too many people like me in the National Party. However, the reality is that National is a Centre Right party, not a Right party. Only once during my time as a member of the National Party (since 1982) has National had a Right leader, and that was Don Brash. Everyone else has been a variation on Centre Right.

Of course New Zealand does have a Right party and that is ACT. There is enough choice in the New Zealand political spectrum that just about everyone can find a political party that has a serious prospect of getting into Parliament that suits their beliefs. Railing against the basic setting of a political party, while purporting to support them, probably shows you are in the wrong party. And of course Don Brash did join ACT, which was closer to his political philosophy than National,

Is it just me or are others also thinking Nikki Kaye is looking a bit tired and careworn? I know she's had some pretty life-changing health problems that would probably kill weaker specimens like me, so maybe this is her new normal and I just hadn't noticed since she hasn't been on TV much until the last few days. But yeah, in these last few days I keep seeing her and wishing someone would get her to take a vacation.

(NB: the above isn't a disingenuous attempt to imply she's not up to her job - I think it would make more sense for her to be leader and Muller the deputy, so no disrespect to her abilities intended.)

Todd Muller, the American Evangelical clone.

Voted to make it harder to get a medical abortion.

Voted to remove safe areas from places where abortions are conducted.

Voted to require abortion providers to consider the views of a woman's ethnic/religious community towards abortion.

Voted to make it illegal to abort a foetus with genetic abnormalities, even fatal ones.

Voted to remove the right for a girl under 16 to obtain an abortion without parental consent.

Just one more stale, pale, male who thinks he knows more about women's health care needs than the women and their doctors.

He needs to be thrown out now, before he is in a position to further harm women's interests.

are just meaningless words Dr Mapp.

What is required are people of substance, people who look beyond just gaining the treasury beches for the sake of having the bragging rights

Ad sadly National once again has showed they stand for nothing, thistle down that blows with the wind and crumbles under nagging of the harridans from the parliamentary press gallery.

Sad pussy whipped little men, in a country run by a kindy teacher

National doesn't deserve to win in September which is a crying shame because unquestionably the current crew are the worst government this country has ever had.

Perhaps Andrei might name a government on this planet that meets his high standards.

Put up or shut up.

G.D is completely wrong. By Muller binning the M.A.G.A. hat, seen by the 92% who supported the lockdown as a symbol of political extremism, he increases his chances of winning the election, not as G.D believes endings his chance. Ok he might lose a few to A.C.T but so what, it doesn’t matter. Our electorate is completely different from the U.S. Political power goes to those who win the majority of the Center. That, no doubt, won’t please everyone but that’s democracy.

Today we get this from Rusty Arrow and other Lefties:

Todd Muller, the American Evangelical clone.

Whereas in the past we get from these folk

Why are we always talking about America. Who cares

Brought to you by the American Bagman activists.

Pfft! As GD points out the real message Muller's action delivers is that it demonstrates that he not only does not have the courage of his convictions, he does not even have the ability to defend himself in argument or take it to the MSM.

A simple "so what?" and showing off his Clnton and Obama memorabilia should have been enough and if they persisted with this bullshit, some serves back at them about being lying lightweights.

One lesson Trump should have taught every Right-wing politician in the world is that the MSM will never give them a break and that fighting back is not just a sensible strategy but the the only one that has a hope of working. Playing nice no longer works.

Muller can hide all this stuff, but that's not going to get the jackals off his back until he both goes around them via Social Media and gives them a regular serve as well.

Mind you, I don't see Jacinda showing off her "Comrades, comrades, comrades..." speech either, so there's that.

I know, right? I mean, I'm totally in the "MAGA cap = toxic masculinity/white supremacist" camp and even I can figure out that if you've got the thing on public display in your office but then hide it when you take flak for it, you just took the lose/lose option. Hiding it isn't going to persuade any leftists you're not some alt-right loon but is guaranteed to persuade every non-leftist that you have no bollocks. What a disaster.

I wouldn't get too cocky if I was you Psycho since the comment from Ian above indicates that there are plenty of voters - including those who supported the lockdown - who will forgive and forget (or perhaps just ignore) such trivia to vote for Muller and National.

As Wayne Mapp points out above such squishiness gets the centre and we're already seeing the same thing from your side of the spectrum as Lefty outrage rises about the creation of two classes of beneficiaries by Labour. Oh sure, some activists no doubt hope this will lead to non-Wuhan Flu beneficiaries seeing their benefits lifted to match, but I think most of us know that Jacinda and company are not quite that radical.

Cue cries of a lack of courage, conviction, etc. Although I assume the modern feminist sensibilities of the Left (as well as gender reality) will mean a refrain from accusing Jacinda of lacking balls! 😃😉

Here we go again.."lefty outrage"..?

You want to see outrage? Check out the UK papers over Bungle's special advisor, Gollom Cummings, driving 350K with both him an his wife WITH COVID 19 SYMPTOMS to visit parents and then went for a another 50K to "test his eysight".

You were crowing over Neil Ferguson being caught out nipping down the road for a leg over but at least he had the honour to resign. Cummings is saying fuck you and the PM is backing him. That's the righty unelected elite for you.

And all those fined for doing the same thing will not have their cases reviewed says Bungle.

You really don't get my points do you PD.

Cummings should resign and despite him being a Righty he is part of the same class as Fergusson - the sort of technocratic, social elite who all mix together from school to work. They attended the same schools and universities, they exchange political jobs for private-sector jobs for academic jobs and circulate between them over their lives. The party together, fuck together, marry eachother and regard themselves as not having to abide by the same rules they wish to impose on the rest of us.

And it's the same in the US and much of the developed world, including here in NZ.

You don't understand any of this - in fact you worship them as long as they're Left - which is why you still don't understand what the Trump and Brexit votes meant, nor do yu understand the degree to which Right-wingers like me despise all of the useless bastards.

Anonymous said...

You must have been a weather vane in a previous life. Gollum WAS the brain of Brexit and he is about as right as you can get before before falling off the edge.

Four years in Russia working for a small airline.... a very very small airline. Doesn't know or associate with Neil Ferguson who is not a political strategist, Matey with Steve Bannon but then again all righties dedicated to the new order know Steve. Rumoured to have visited the Monastery but sadly no proof.

If you can't pick one of your own then your judgment is impaired.

I agree with Psycho Milt. All this demonstrates is that Muller caves under pressure. Either have the MAGA hat out of sight before becoming leader (or MP) or tough it out. Caving in is weak.

Oh, absolutely. I can't see an incident like this having an actual effect on National's election results, but it will contribute to people forming an unfavourable impression of Muller.

...we're already seeing the same thing from your side of the spectrum as Lefty outrage rises about the creation of two classes of beneficiaries by Labour.

Yes. It's this kind of thing that makes me laugh when the loonier fringe of the right bray about the Labour "socialists" or even "communists." Labour's a centre-left party and actions like this demonstrate the fact pretty conclusively.
