I see a cyclist was killed by a truck in Christchurch the other day - I know the fruitloops in Wellington love cyclists but surely common sense says bicycles and trucks don't mix and if they do it will be the cyclist that comes off worse

We keep trains and people apart for the same common sense reason but the ning nongs in Wellington are encouraging cyclists with their idiotic cycle ways clogging up arterial routes

The poor bugger that killed the girl in Christchurch will have to live with that for the rest of his life, will almost certinly be done for ""careless driving causing death" and quite likly loose his licence and livelihood for a while - sentenced by a pompouse judge who in all probaility has never driven a heavy vehicle in his or her effing life and is utterly clueless as to how blind the driver of such a vehicle is on the left hand side

Particularly invisible will be a cyclist whizzing along up the left often overtaking the slower moving cycle lane impeded traffic - the surely arterial routes should be designed for vehicles to move as quickly as possible from a to b across or through the city andd not be turned into obstacle courses which is what is happening at the moment

You are very good at exposing problems but you never suggest solutions. I was under the impression that cycle lanes were separation zones..... Ban Bicycles????

Still waitng for an answer on any law that the EU has enforced on a soveriegn parliament

Look at the promotional material for Vision Zero, this current Gumitt favourite poached overseas initiative. All the bike lanes are separated by concrete berms.

Road down our way was funded for a major resurfacing from the last lot of Pollies but some monies had to be diverted to VZ add on.

Look the part with cheese cutters at the sides and separation lane in the centre of the road.

Three months later the surface cut up so bad that the greatest safety feature was the traffic ignoring the high speed limit and crawling to avoid wheel rebalancing.

It isn't rocket science Egbut - you been on the TGV? Travels at what? - 250 KPH, Been operating since 1981 carrying millions of passsangers without a single fatality.

How can that be? Simple it runs on dedicated lines. no railway crossings kept apart from slower traffic, be it rail, vehicular or pedestrian.

Common sense says bicycles should not be mixing it on the same carriage ways as HGVs - when the motorways were built common sense prevailed

There are major arteries that run through our cities and common sense says that they to should be cycle free - instead these alredy congested roads have been further congested by the provision of these stupid cycle lanes and what happens at intersections is the velcra clad set overtake the slow traffic to their right and then collide with a left turning vehicle the driver of which has no idea that they are even there.

Noel bought up the "cheese cutters" - on the road I use every day. an arterial route there is a junction where it splits with one route going South the other West with pre-existing traffic islands on a divided dual carriage way. Suddenly the Cheese cutters appeared dividing the south bound lane from the West but West bound buses can barely negotiate the junction now and have to slow right down. And hilariously half of the cheese cutters have been tken out now - presumably bowled by the arse ends of buses.

Why didn;t you say so....just ban bicycles from cities..easy. Oh and motor scooters smart cars and anything else that does not weigh a ton with low impact resistance.

Good thing that 389 people wern't killed on the roads last year otherwise we may have to ban cars....

I didn't say "ban bicycles from cities" Egbut.

I said seperate traffic according to the road use by design purpose. Ideally you want through traffic seperated from local traffic and you want it to move through the city as quickly as possible - to build the cycle lanes where I live the major route, dual lane carriageway designated as state highway 1 had its lane width reduced to accomodate the cycleways, cheese cutters everywhere. Effect to significantly slow traffic, increase congestion and increase accidents (mostly minor) - there is no surprises here, traffic engineering 101 teaches reduced lane width means increased accidents, slower traffic and increased congestion.

On the other hand Tamaki Drive which is kind of scenic has accomodated it cycleways mostly on the footpath and doesn't see much traffic in the form of B trains carrying two containers or live stock.

You don't have to be Einstein to recognize heavy goods vehicles and bicycles don't mix - but you might require some nouse to realize that large vehicles cannot negotiate tight turns without violating the neighbouring lane and that narrowing lanes exacerbates this.

What's coming?

Andrei said...

Well that is all lovely aint it Noel, a summer paradise of wide tree lined streets in the Netherlands with the odd car every now and then passing by the cyclists in their red painted cycle lanes

It is all well and good to create obstacles to impede the speeds of headstrong motorists but the reality of the roads in our urban conurbations is that they are exceeding their carrying capacity and that impedes speed also - and all you acheive with these innovations is further reductions in carrying capacity of the roads

And all the land set aside for the bicycles which has to be taken from the road in most cases is barely used by cyclists, and certainly not on cold wet winters days, Cyclists who do not pay road user charges BTW, a priviledge shared with the virtue signaling owners of clean green electric cars.

In this part of the world hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent on creating cycle lanes. So what happens?

Certain dumb bastard cyclists persist in riding on the footpath, right next to the cycle lane!

Our Great Britain and its wonderful English Newspapers.

Racist American President Donald Trump has endorsed Boris Johnson, praised Nigel Farage and attacked Jeremy Corbyn.

The bumbling bigot waded into the British election just hours after Mr Corbyn warned that Tory trade plans would see sections of the NHS auctioned off to American companies.

The US leader, who caged children on the American border before sending them to detention camps, told Nigel Farage that he believed that Mr Johnson was "the right man for the times".

The Labour leader replied in a tweet: "Donald Trump is trying to interfere in Britain’s election to get his friend Boris Johnson elected.

"It was Trump who said in June the NHS is 'on the table'.

"And he knows if Labour wins US corporations won’t get their hands on it. Our NHS is not for sale."

The Tories have said the NHS will be exempt from any trade deal.

No punches pulled.

No fucks given.

Always funny to see the double standards, although I think we're way past the point where Leftists will ever again issue crocodile tears about "The Loss Of Civility" - or as Obama & Hillary voter and law professor Ann Althouse calls it - Civility Bullshit.

And just to prove that stupidity never falls far from the tree

"I wish my name was Hunter Biden. I could go abroad, make millions off of my father's presidency. I'd be a really rich guy."
-- Donald Trump Jr.

This kid is such a dumb fuck he doesn't even realise that HIS father is POTUS, AND that he IS profiting from his father's crimes.

Dumb fuckery and deplorables - America, what have you done to yourself?

RosscoWlg said...

Talking about deplorables Roojie, your name springs to mind... you see when you dont have a sense of humour, or even a sense of humour matched with intelligence you fail to catch the meaning, let alone the joke.

Jeez I know you are Eggies mate, and by association that brings the left wing absence of humour but really you are thicker than 2 short planks mate!!

Could you please refrain from making it so publically obvious. Thank You

I see that New York, apart from getting shot of Trump as a resident, is wacking in 250 more cycle lanes.....wonder why they don't ban big trucks from city centres.

Trumpo has applied for residency in Florida after being booed by Nooyorkers with the State governor tweeting good riddance..and you didn't pay any taxes anyway....god I love that place.

RosscoWlg said...

"You see" but you didn't research did you Egg old son, as usual!

What the President said the move was for tax reasons!

"New York, and always will, but unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year, I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state. Few have been treated worse. "

Welcomed in Florida of course, not full of bike lanes for the elites, blocking ordinary people trying to earn a living!
