I mean direct from presiding over the Kiwibuild f****p it looks as though the Auckland light rail project, entrusted to him by St Jacinda, is headed the same way with the Treasury warning that the initial estimates of $6 billion were way off the mark.  Indeed, one NZTA source has suggested they could double which would see it rivalling Edinburgh's light rail debacle.  Mind you, this government and debacles tend to go hand in hand.   Indeed one might argue 'they' have become rather expert at it.

And all this before a single sod is turned and won't be until 2021 at the earliest.    Contrast that with the promise made by Ardern shortly after taking office that the Mt Roskill segment would be completed within four years (i.e. 2021).   Politics 101 for dummys ... under promise and over deliver. This mob have certainly managed to turn that one on its head.

And all this against the backdrop of firms associated with the project saying the delays caused by the  government shifting the goalposts has cost millions and has seriously harmed New Zealand's business reputation abroad.

That's why the hapless Twyford's throwaway remark to the effect that with the NZ Super Fund taking a stake in the project users of light rail will be contributing towards their own retirement ... leaves me cold.   For this to happen the service has to make a profit ... tell me, does the Auckland commuter train service make a profit? ... just asking.

Nah, no twinge of sympathy for Twyford.   All of 'their' own doing.

But its not Phil Twyfords fault - it is the NZTA's fault.

Do you know how I know this?

Jacinda Ardern told me last night on One News.

You do have to wonder though what is the NZ Super Fund's experience in developing and running large scale transport infrastructure projects?

Definitely a "twinge" of contempt.

And the word nice and Twyford don't belong in the same sentence.

You can perhaps understand nice incompetence but arrogant incompetence... its like putting Hilary for President in the same sentence, makes something shrivel up and die within the human body.

Perhaps if we looked at it with a managerial eye rather than just baseless political point scoring we might begin to realise that all major capital projects come in about 20% late and 80% over budget.

The British Hs2 high speed rail link London to Manchester has had $8 BILLION spent and not a sod turned, estimated to come in $60 BILLION over budget.

At least the Key Govt cant be accused of overseeing over budget capital projects :-)

Auckland transports budget during Key years...the rot starts there.

"all major capital projects come in about 20% late and 80% over budget"

What an unmitigated load of crap.

Perhaps Eggie we looked at with a rate of return eye... better to invest in a project with a good rate of return than a baseless managerial eye which after all can be subjective.

I mean after all the Key Govt had the Kapiti Expressway, a great piece of road, started Transmission Gully and of course completed the twin tunnels in Auckland on time and under budget. Plus many many more and had many more on the books that as you well know your Leftist mates who specialise in incompetence have postponed indefinitely in favour of bicycle based projects....

They also had the advantage of good managerial talent, rather than a track record of incompetence, and proven incompetence at that.

Actually Eggie you surprise me... commentating on something I posted...have you been on holiday in Italy by any chance?

Lord Egbut Nobacon said... mean the very short unfinished Kapati expressway.

"Perhaps Eggie we looked at with a rate of return eye... better to invest in a project with a good rate of return than a baseless managerial eye which after all can be subjective."

A perfect example of administrive sounds good but conveys no information or knowledge...just flannel.

The Peka Peka to Otaki section of the expressway isn't due to be completed until 2021 Egbut

What you are on about is the decision not to build an interchange at bustling metropolis of Peka Peka (pop. 195 (2001)¹). A decision made earlier this year BTW under the Sixth Labour Government of New Zealand

(1) As another example of life in New Zealand under the Sixth Labour Government of New Zealand the data from the latest census conducted on their watch is a total shambles like everything else including the topic of this post

On the other hand the fibre rollout a signature project of the Fifth National Government continues apace. It is now 85% complete, ahead of schedule and well on target to meet its 2022 deadline for completion, Poor old Peka Peka will have fast internet by then but no interchange alas

Cut and paste from different sources....but still 95 dead Russian journalists and still the Russian interferance on social media trying to cause exploit any division that causes disrtrust in our instituions.

Poor old have nevver been to Peka peka in your life...oh, google earth now ..quickly.

Eggie the readers and blog administrators thank you for your contribution of the last 2 posts here but baseless waffle doesn't count as a post. You seem to be a victim of your own accusations.

Now turning back to Wellington and the 15 transport projects cancelled that high rate rates of return, eg Melling interchange, as opposed to bicycle based projects that "feelz" good. Looking at the Holiday Highway to Whangerai, cancelled so a higher rate of return so a bicycle based transport, namely a train "solution" would have a clearer run....

For an acclaimed (self acclaimed) centrist defending this indefensible left wing incompetence seems most strange... I thought the Army would have taught you to reinforce success?

Lord Egbut Nobacon said...

Ah..well. as a defender of right wing incompetance you do have the right to call me out even though I haven't a clue why.

For Andrei & Egbut.

Thank you Mr seems the the Russian air force has just paid an official visit to Sth Africa and is on a charm offensive taking advantage of the US lack of interest. Trump never even bothered appointing an ambassador after 2016.

Who controls Sth Africa controls the Southern oceans.

Bardot Obama said...

makes you wonder, doesn't it, why almost every "foreign policy" that is Trumped up seems to benefit Andreis BFF, VVP. You could almost be forgiven for thinking Trump is some kind of Russian asset, but I wouldn't go that far.

Gerald said...

They have been cultivating the South Africans for some time.

RosscoWlg said...

Eggie, Bardot and Gerald cant speak for the Vet but knowing Eggies triple standards, the Vet doesnt like thread hijacks anymore than Tripple Eggie does, I mean to say Eggie will delete you for a having a single standard, let alone being off topic.

So if you want to do TDS, or South Africa start your own Eggie will get you a reference from the Guardian

Still trying to moderate other peoples blogs eh wiggo...never mind, when you grow up you might have your own blog to play with.

Roj Blake said...

Fuck off, Wiggo. Heaven truly knows that thou art false as hell.

RosscoWlg said...

Thanks Eggie, if I had time for a blog, you could post on it without fear of deletion. The only rule I would have :no use of foul language unless it had a humorous context.

So Roojie's comment above would just sneak in.

Avoids double standards that you get yourself all tangled up on. Mind you the Left is full of double standards, I see that that your Leftist mates have just approved the sale of 20,000 prime hectares of land to a Jap multi national for planting pine involvement of the OIA..

Come on Eggie even you can see the hypocriscay in that..... surely?

Lord Egbut Nobacon said...

Nope..not after your righty mates flogged off half the Sth Island to Trumpos mate Thiel...the bastard has never been back since being granted citizenship......a proper lefty government would have stripped it from him.
