NZL STAND OUT STANDING OUT

DPF on Kiwiblog here sez it all in covering off St Jacinda's response to the US/GB/French strikes against Syrian chemical warfare facilities.

While others stood four square behind the action NZL merely 'accepts' the reasoning behind it ... some may consider that damning it with faint praise.

One can fairly question the influence that our Putin's poodle foreign minister had in watering down our statement of 'support'.

Successful isn't really defined in news reports. Closest appears to be if you get a missile onto the target.

"Jacinda Ardern says it wasn't possible to use UN talks to resolve this so understands the use of strikes and condemns the use of veto powers in the UN."

Same language used by Holland a NATO member.

Partisan politics over rides common sense, any commitment to finding the truth, and seeking justice

Its why politicians are as worthy of the same level of respect as pedophile rapists.

This "gas attack" almost certainbly never happened - Great Britian is a faded power sinking into irrelevance and the United States is tearing itself apart with partisan political hacks trying to overturn an election that produced a result they didn't like

Why go along with their silly games - everyone with a modicum of sense knows this attack, carried out in disregard of international law was theatre produced for domestic audiences in the USA, Great Britain and France.

But whatever Slavs have always been considered untermensch by the Anglos, as have Arabs

Er, yes. It's almost as though the current government isn't the kind that right-wingers would prefer to have, isn't it? For my part, NZ governments that don't leap to be the first and most enthusiastic arse-kissers for whatever the UK and US governments are up to this week are vastly to be preferred.

I wonder if anyone polled the Syrians to see if they would prefer being killed by gas or flames? This bullshit about "chemical weapons" is rank hypocrisy. All weapons are chemical, all weapons are designed to kill. How many civilians died in the "missile strike"?

While the Australian pm is getting his "all the way with LBJ" suit on, at least your PM has the good sense to not be provoked into a rash action in support of the bully POTUS.

Now, I am not channelling Andrei, but does anyone else think it odd that there has been no use of gas in Syria for 12 months? Why this gas attack at this time? This is Trump's "wag the dog" distraction for the criminal prosecutions around the corner.

Pedant corner: it's Untermenschen - must be capitalised and have the plural 'en' on the end.

Actual comment: to be fair, Anglos are equal-opportunity racists - there's nothing particular about Slavs or Arabs they hate, the same applies to pretty much everybody else. I think it's only Scandiwegians who get a free pass. And Israel, which is pretty weird when you think about it.

UN."Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Saturday, saying it UNDERSTOOD the reasons for the airstrikes on Syria, but urged all parties to seek a peaceful solution.
Italy UNDERSTANDS the reasons for the U.S. military action,” Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano said in a statement.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte says his government "UNDERSTANDS" the military action of the three NATO allies in Syria

Noel ... Ardern's statement of 14 April published on the Beehive website does not include the word 'understand(s)'.

That is a cheap shot and unworthy of you Veteran

Do you want a good blog with interesting and informed debate with the opportunity to hear other peoples points of view or do you want an echo chamber?

Whatever DPF and his blab-blog 'sez' rates about zero in my book. Same goes for Jacinda.
Groupthink has never equalled truth if its founded on bullshit. Think global warming.
Trump, May, Macron and their hairbrained collection of rear echelon warriors are trying to sell the world a pup. There's only one country that benefits from Syria being a mangled state and its not Syria. Every time Syria stabilises an area of its own country out comes the 'gas attacks' accusations. This time they give open access to investigators, can't have that, it disrupts the groupthink, bomb 'em! Last time Israel flew missions there a jet returned with its arse shot out, better create a scenario that gets someone else in the firing line.
Whether you like it or not Syria has won an internal war in its own country, aided by Russia whom it invited in.

David...Don't make the mistake that this was Trumps doing. This was lead by Matiss. whether or not there was gas attack is from our point of view sheer speculation but any regime that barrel bombs hospitals and has form for using gas does not deserve the benefit of the doubt. It was a one off unless gas is used again, it was not aimed at Russians or at the Syrian military it was aimed at known research labs and chemical manufacturing and until you have proof of it being otherwise or how many were killed you ought to keep quiet.....my personal view is that it was just and proportionate response to a very long list broken Geneva convention laws. The Russians appear to have no control over Bigears actions and are not being kept in the loop because there was no way they would have gone along with this so close to the Salisbury attack.
The cynic in me says this was about domestic politics but the realist says no...it had to be done.

So why didn't bombs rain down on Washington when US forces bombed a hospital fro over an hour in Kunduz? 12 hospital staff and seven patients dead!

The US is simply acting as the World's Bullyboy and you all line up behind it. Did Vietnam teach you nothing? Obviously not.

We never see the smoke and the fire, we never smell the blood, we never see the terror in the eyes of the children, whose nightmares will now feature screaming missiles from unseen terrorists, known only as Americans.

David these people believe that the USA is good and benevolent and the actions it takes are always for the noblest of reasons

And when they are called out over a propaganda video that a six year old child could see through they liken calling it into question with holocaust denial - which actually shows the bankruptcy of their arguments

Of course the sheer hypocrisy on display is beyond astonishing - the dead children of Yemen mean nothing to these people they just ignore the atrocities of Yemen, the dead babies burned alive with British and American manufactured weapons. We will never see videos of Saudi atrocities in Yemen - we don't even talk about it

Dr Assad is restoring order to his nation which is not what the West wants - and American forces are occupying North Eastern Syria, in total violation of international law and the UN charter (and I think American law as well) because that is where Syria's oil resources are and they don't want the Syrian people to benefit from their own natural resources

It is a scandal in contemporary international law, don’t forget, that while “wanton destruction of towns, cities and villages” is a war crime of long standing, the bombing of cities from airplanes goes not only unpunished but virtually unaccused. Air bombardment is state terrorism, the terrorism of the rich. It has burned up and blasted apart more innocents in the past six decades than have all the antistate terrorists who ever lived. Something has benumbed our consciousness against this reality. In the United States we would not consider for the presidency a man who had once thrown a bomb into a crowded restaurant, but we are happy to elect a man who once dropped bombs from airplanes that destroyed not only restaurants but the buildings that contained them and the neighborhoods that surrounded them. I went to Iraq after the Gulf war and saw for myself what the bombs did; “wanton destruction” is just the term for it. – C. Douglas Lummis, political scientist

I wondered when David who once sold Lotto tickets to Adolf, would out himself. I wonder if Andrei and David's history goes back to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan or even Chechenya where villages were bombed indiscriminately. I'm afraid the Russian attitude to collateral damage is less than humanitarian.

But all that is whataboutism which if carried to the logical end takes us back to imperial Rome.....what did the Romans ever do for us? :-)

The St Petersburg debating team are quite well known on overseas blogs. They set up differing personas with different agendas and have separate followings then over a period of time they meld together taking their followers with them. The aim is not to make a point but to sow confusion and distrust of our Govt, Judiciary and free Press.

If you are wondering why MSM is getting such a bad press, "scuse pun, it is because of Facebook and Twitter feeds from Russian based sites over the last five years influencing the way we react to certain events. Think the catchphrase Crooked Hillary.

Veteran....If you mean the Herald say Herald not MSM as it generalise what might be a local problem. It also is doing the trolls work for them when respected bloggers are suggesting that our free press is untrustworthy and should be tightly regulated by the Right..

"Think the catchphrase Crooked Hillary. "

ROFLMAO "Crooked Hillary" is an English idiom Egbut -it is highly confusing to someone who has English as a second language on the first encounter

It is almost 100% guaranteed that that phrase was coined by someone whose mother tongue is English

Do you seriously believe that the Russian Government whose primary duty and concern is the safety and welfare of the citizens of the Russian Federation, lands that encompass 1/6th of the planet have nothing better to do than employ people to post comments on blogs in idiomatic English to sow political discord in the West

Under that reasoning James Comey, ex director of the FBI, must be a Russian troll as he peddles his book, a hit piece on the elected President of the USA because that certainly is sowing far more political discord and upset in the USA than any supposed Russian troll in St Petersburg could ever hope to acheive by leaving a comment on a blog or newspaper article

Заруби ceбe на носу - a russian idiom for you Egbut it translated "notch your nose"

What am I saying to you?

I wondered when David who once sold Lotto tickets to Adolf, would out himself.

Out myself as what, Eggy old chum? A pacifist? I thought that was plain from my writing. In my 65 years I have not seen a war that I think was justifiable. Every war is about someone taking something from someone else, mostly the US and its client states doing the taking.

Chechenya (sic) is not the only place where this has happened. The list of dead is far too long for one post.

I well remember Russian invasion of Afghanistan, the pretext being an invitation from the Afghan government (where have we heard that before?), the USSR desire was to buttress itself against Muslim separatism on its borders.

The US took a position opposed to the USSR, and look how well that turned out for everyone. It turned a young Muslim man from a road building engineer into a terrorist master mind. He is long dead, but his legacy lives on through terror attacks around the world.

A terrorist is simply a man with a bomb but no airplane.

Anonymous said...

Rewriting history again David, just had to get the Muslim separatism crack in didn't you.

It was the the Russian invasion in support of a failing Communist Govt that triggered what we see today.....a fractured middle East. Religion did not play a large part until much later in the piece. Oh, and no Australian would say airplane.
