C'MON JACINDA ... STOP TREATING US AS IDIOTS

The best thing St Jacinda could come up with in defending 'her' Minister of Defence against the charge that he used the RNZAF as his personal Uber taxi service was that all the trips constituted 'official business'.    C'mon Jacinda ... you need to do better than that.   No-one but no-one has suggested Mark was using the aircraft for anything else than official business ... if that were the charge proven then she would have had no option but to award him a DCM (don't come Monday).

Nah ... the charge is the inappropriate use of military aircraft in having the RNZAF fly him to/from official business from Hood aerodrome in Masterton close to his home.    There were four such flights in all; one using a B200 King Air fixed-wing aircraft and three using a NH-90 helicopter.

Mark has access to the Crown limo service used by all Ministers.   He also has a government supplied self-drive car garaged at his home.     In his defense he said using airforce assets was cheaper than using a Crown limo.

Bullshit.    The aircraft were based at Ohakea which means they had to fly from there to Masterton  and thence to their final destination (Woodbourne and Waiouru respectively) and then back to Masterton before returning to Ohakea.      The Aircraft Cost Calculator for the B200 has the hourly operating cost at USD1,909.65.     The figures for the NH90 are all over the place and range from Mr Mark's NZD1,285 (when in a PR last year he described them as "unreliable" and gas guzzling") to the NH Industries entry on Wiki which has the hourly cost (for the High Cabin version) at USD24,000.   I suspect the real figure is somewhere in between.

Gonna be interesting the results of the OIA requests lodged seeking the cost of a Crown limo from Carterton to Wellington airport return and a single airfare Air NZ to Blenheim/Woodbourne return plus a Crown limo from Carterton to Waiouru return measured against the aircraft operating costs.

Mark's Crown limo line defense is arrogant bullshit from an arrogant bullshitter with a hugely inflated sense of his own importance laced with a generous dollop of sense of entitlement.

And St Jacinda believed him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Veteran..... I have no love of our Glorious bemedaled leader but you do not supply enough information to make a judgment on the cost effectiveness or the whereabouts of the aircraft before and after.

In 2011 the RNZAF budgeted 195 hours per year for VIP flying.....what is the total hours used by this Govt in five months?

I can only see two fights that might be questioned, the 9th and the 15th Dec. The other two are legit.

I notice on the scheduled flights to Antartica from CHC and Chathams from Wellington he used Limo and scheduled flights to departure airports. Only the RNZAF can confirm the whereabouts of the aircraft on those dates and whether money was wasted. So two RTN flights in 5 months.......not earth shaking stuff is it.

Cost to the US taxpayer of Trumps Golfing holidays so far...$58,000,000

Keep firing into the smoke, you may get lucky.

Interesting stuff this moving of Ministers.....it seems St Jude the Obscure spent £32,000 in three months on internal travel. Might have been cheaper to give her a chopper. Makes our bemedalled hero positively scrooge like.

Egbut ... there were four flights; two on the 9th and two on the 15th ... there were a number of other flights but they appear to me to be legitimate. Yes, the RNZAF budgets VIP flying hours ... that's not the issue. It's the to/from home location that's the issue. Mr Mark is demonstrating an exaggerated sense of entitleitis.

Actually I have no issues with the PM's spending of $20,414 on internal travel ... not sure where you got that $32,000 figure from. Meanwhile our SAS wannabee racked up another $12,343 on domestic air travel, surface travel and expenses (excluding the cost of those RNZAF flights). In doing so he outspent his Leader by over $4,000.

Scrooge like he certainly ain't.

You obviously did not read the link and deliberately misunderstand ...St Jude the very Obscure clocked up $32,000 in three months during 2016. (I did not supply Labour figures) Her expenses throughout the year were eyewatering. The three hour car ride you refer to means 3hrs there, 3hrs meeting and greeting, reviewing the troops and drinkies in the mess, then three hours back. A ten hour day. Sitting on your arse in a car for six and a half hours at $120 an hour salary does not strike me as money well spent.

Sorry Egbut ... I took your St Jude the Very Obscure jibe to be a play on St Jacinda. Cherry-pick the figures as much as you like but 'she' did not use airforce assets as her Uber taxi service. By your logic all cabinet ministers should use airforce assets to minimise the time spent in travel. Tosh. Your running interference for the SAS wannabee diminishes your own credibility.

Veteran......I'm not looking at the man I'm looking at the job whoever does it. Accountability and scrutiny does not depend on who you like or dislike. If he is working outside of acceptability and what his predecessors did then I will join the condemnation but I refuse to jump on your bandwagon until I have more information.

Goose, gander, pot, kettle spring to mind when you look at Nationals track record on RNZAF flights.

Egbut .... I have absolutely no issue with any PM using RNZAF assets. Their time is important. Mark is unranked and below 17th in the Ministerial List. He is a 'Big Noter' extraordinaire and a medals cheat to boot with a vastly exaggerated sense of his own importance exacerbated by his 'Little Man' syndrome.

Dollars to donuts he won't be using RNZAF assets to/from his home any time soon. He lost his converted Deputy Leader position because he upset Winston over his wearing of unauthorised medals and no matter how you spin the B200/NH90 travel it's not a good look for Mark and Winston will be looking. Clearly, in Winston's eyes, Fletcher Tabuteau who replaced Mark as Deputy is on the up and up and if I were Ron Mark I would be looking anxiously over my shoulder.

Veteran ...Brownlee when he was Min of Def was continually using RNZAF assets. I might point out that two flights by "little Ron" equals one by Brownlee, hauling the self indulgent bulk of Brownlee around the sky would use three times as much fuel.

St Jude the Obscure's internal travel was $100,000 for 2016....go figure.

Egbut ... your support of Ron Mark is touching ... and worrying. Give me one instance when Brownlie or Mitchell diverted RNZAF assets to ferry them from/to hone ... you won't because there arn't any. Sorry you feel a need to get personal with Brownlie ... but if you feel a need to argue that way I can't stop you although it's a bit sad.
