With much fanfare Trump has fired the first salvo in what could become a nasty trade war. Was it the massive German car industry* as promised er, no. Someone had told him he can't do that. No it is soft target at the behest of Whirlpool, a home appliance manufacturer with five or six factories in the US. All home appliances er, no, Just 50% tariff on washing machines from Asia and China which is aimed at Samsung and LG whom I might add have far superior machines. Here comes the hypocrisy. Whirlpool has five factories in India and China, one in Sth Africa, Australia and Taiwan not to mention the UK and where Hotpoint and Indesit, owned by Whirlpool, are manufactured (not recommended).

In 2013 the EU, against the wishes of France, Germany and the UK, slapped tariffs on Chinese solar panels accusing China of dumping. It didn't work. All it did was collapse an industry that was in it's infancy and now all tariffs are have been removed. Of course Trump will have been advised on this, and the fact that the two US solar panel factories are foreign owned, his trade people are not stupid. He is playing to the rust belt states where his power base resides and because it is a minor industry. His ego is playing a dangerous game in which we are pawns because he cannot see the end effect.

*Why can't he penelis

Good try but no cigar Para......Your post reflects on the same Whirlpool scenario I mentioned. No, The German car industry is a part of the EU trading block and cannot be isolated any more than we can discriminate between a California product or Montana product. One out, all out.

So loser Legbut has identified yet another anti-Trump issue.

I look forward to this, like all his previous predictions, turning out to be a roaring success for the President and the Republicans.
