The death of American Christianity.

Evangelicalism ceased being a religious faith tradition following Jesus’ teachings concerning justice for the betterment of humanity when it made a Faustian bargain for the sake of political influence. The beauty of the gospel message — of love, of peace and of fraternity — has been murdered by the ambitions of Trumpish flimflammers who have sold their souls for expediency. No greater proof is needed of the death of Christianity than the rush to defend a child molester in order to maintain a majority in the U.S. Senate.

(...)

Evangelicalism has ceased to be a faith perspective rooted on Jesus the Christ and has become a political movement whose beliefs repudiate all Jesus advocated.

Looks like you need some new material. There's plenty out there, like the idiot in The Whitehouse demanding that the whole nation thank him for pardoning a turkey, his greatest achievement in a year in office.

David...don't you think that we are all a little bored about the Mango. The world now knows what he is like and he is being contained by both the Senate, congress and the military. He is no longer news worthy and the US will just have to live with him a little longer. He is no longer amusing. just embarrassing and does not represent the the thinking of the majority of US citizens.....even those who who voted for him.

Even the article you quote is incorrect.

The whole purpose of Jesus, His ministry, death and resurrection was about reconciling sinful humans with God, and providing a way of salvation.

Betterment of humanity is as much doublespeak as any other liberal misinterpretation of the Gospel.

Primarily I think that this occurs because it is uncomfortable for most people to consider that their spiritual situation may be a lot worse than their self deceiving justifications have allowed them to believe.

The Gospel was never meant to be a comfotable religious message - if that is all it is then it is a lie and not worth the light of day.

However if it is true, then those who read the Gospel will either accept its truth and receive salvation or they will be offended by it and spurn its message.

Diluting it down to empty platitudes is an insult to the sacrifice Jesus made.

If you read his Words recorded in Revelation: I wish you were hot or cold. But because you are lukewarm I will spew you out of my mouth.

So I say, accept the Gospel as it is or reject it. Just don't mutilate it beyond recognition and lie to yourself.

Jimmie ... I commend your post ... and this from me who if pressed would have to self identify as an Agnostic with Anglican, Catholic, Baptist and Salvation Army tendencies.

Of course it is, as everyone knows an anonymous internet troll always knows more than a professor at a theological college who has an earned Masters in Divinity. Yet even with all your rhetorical skills you are incapable of addressing a single point in his article.

Betterment of humanity is as much doublespeak as any other liberal misinterpretation of the Gospel.

Yes, of course, when Jesus said "suffer the little children to come unto me" he was propositioning them for sex. Is that the correct interpretation? It certainly seems to be the one that Roy Moore's supporters are using.

If you read his Words recorded in Revelation:

There are no words of Jesus in "Revelation". It is fan fiction, not a recording of anything that happened.

So I say, accept the Gospel as it is or reject it.

Rejected it a long time ago as it is full of errors, logical inconsistencies, and myths. Its only use has been as a justification of some of the most horrendous evils perpetrated on some humans by others. It has been used to justify slavery, misogyny, war, rape, dispossession and destruction of natives by colonists, paedophilia, and all the other stuff Christians conveniently try to blame on Satan.

David - your Master of Divinity would have right at home sitting on the bench of the Spanish Inquisition. None of this inconvenient nonsense about innocent until proven guilty.

I'll take the opinion of Jimmy long before that of a deranged fundamentalist Trump hater - just like you.

Never were good at comprehension, were you Lawn Mower Man? The chap with the Masters in Divinity is not me, rather the author of the article I quoted above. Do try to keep up, old chap.

None of this inconvenient nonsense about innocent until proven guilty.

You mean like your continual howls of BENGHAZI, your screeching EMAILS, your jabbering PIZZAGATE, your whining about a BIRTH CERTIFICATE, and your relentless lies about anything and everything to do with Trump.

Maybe you could take a little time out of your lawn mowing to actually read the article I quoted and then attempt to refute the author.

The gods/god are man's invention. From the earliest of times it was realised that those who had "powers" or could communicate with nature become wealthy and respected in the tribe. It was a short step to orginised religion with Shamans, priests etc consolidating their position with rules and diktats along with the power to cast the unbelievers (competing beliefs) into outer darkness. Religions morphed and changed with the political circumstances. Christianity got it's boost when the Roman empire that was on it's knees took it on as the people were pissed off that the old gods had let them down and the emperor decided that it would be politically convenient to convert.

Man's inhumanity to man in the name of religion is boundless and the sky fairies name should not be invoked in parliament or anywhere else...it is a manufactured myth.

If you have any doubts how today's religion was cobbled together by a bunch political schemers in frocks who wrote the rules which are far from divine and responsible for the human misery on a vast scale........ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea
