DUMB JUST DUMB

Dumb, dumb, dumb.    St Jacinda has f****d up big time by confirming that Labour are in lockstep with NZ First and the Greens in proposing to levy a royalty on water bottled for sale.   It's the thin end of the wedge.    Today, bottled water; tomorrow, the water from your tap sold to you by your local council; the day after, the list goes on.

But the nigger in the woodpile (no pun intended) is that I guarantee the 'wide boys' in Maoridom (and the not so wide) will be girding their loins getting ready to take a case to the High Court arguing that they are entitled to a piece of the action.

Jacinda/Winston/James/MeTu ... you are opening up a Pandora's box and, once you let the genie out, there's no way he's going to get back in.

With a water tax does that mean that the price of my beer will have to go up !

Dumb is right. Just as dumb as missing her opportunity to cut the Greens adrift when Turei admitted her criminal activity.

Not quite sure how she thinks all this nonsense will gain Labour swing votes from National and ACT but hey - she's the political expert. Just like Hillary.

I think this is very well reasoned argument and answers a lot of my questions on the subject.. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11859193

Unless of course it is written by someone who you have disagreed with in the past in which case it is hugely biased towards a political party that is not your own.

In many fields NZ is is a corporate wild west where they get away with stuff that would not be allowed in the UK/EU.

Egbut ... no-one but no-one owns the water and to say Maori does is piffle. I have an interest, everyone an interest, but no-one owns it and, I repeat again, Labour/NZ First/Greens are letting the genie out of the bottle.

I note the Labour, bless their cottin pickin sox, have already caved into their Maori caucus and agreed to Maori receiving a portion of any royalties. Well, bless me, at least they have saved them the trouble of going to the High Court.

This is wrong, wrong, wrong, and can I predict as someone who has given support to the legitimate claims process that this will drive a huge wedge between Pakeha and Maori New Zealanders.

This could well be a seminal moment in NZ politics.

I actually agree. But if there is way of taxing, for that is what it is, water bound for foreign markets do it. It is only a matter of time before NZ adopts water meters which going by overseas markets means every body will be paying more anyway.

There is no health benefit from drinking bottled water anywhere in the EU or UK and it has a huge downside with the waste plastic, so I'm all for taxing the container as well.

I have a water tank on my land that collects the water I use. Is this water not mine?
