ARMSTRONG ON LABOUR

Political commentator John Armstrong is regularly assailed by both sides of the political divide as being biased towards the other ... which probably means he ain't.    With that in mind his latest column 'Labour is fast becoming a political cot-case' makes for instructive reading.

He commented that  Labour was so blindsided by the decision made by the Greens and New Zealand First to vote in favour of legislation enacting the Budget's centrepiece $2 billion package of tax cuts, increases in Working for Families entitlements and major boosts in the accommodation supplement that they declined an invitation to appear on Newshubs 'The Nation' programme  to discuss the budget and posed the question ... 'was this the first time the official Opposition Party had declined to appear on a programme discussing the budget ... answer ... you betcha.

Then he went for the jugular ... he argued that the budget was just another in a series of hurdles tripping up the hapless party ... that Labour was in such a parlous state that the budget may turn out to be irrelevant with their priority now being to ensure that, post the election, Labour remains the largest Opposition party.   Ouch and double ouch.

Drilling down into that statement and one thing you can bet your bottom dollar on is that NZ First doesn't intend remaining on the Opposition benches for Winston's swansong Parliamentary term. Given that and Armstrong can only mean that he sees the Greens as presenting a real chance as supplanting Labour as the dominent Oppostion party.    With that in mind one is allowed to wonder how long the 'Accord' will remain in place.   Turkeys voting for an early Xmas comes readily to mind.

Er, what? Armstrong was such an arse-licking Key sycophant he makes Mike Hosking look broad-minded. You might as well re-post what Hosking has to say about the Labour Party, it's about as useful.

Milt - it must be a PM fetish with Armstrong then because from 1999 until the 2008 election he was right into Helen Clarks crotch.

The crushing of the racist and cynical Co-governance Nat Government will come in stages. Its sickening collapse into Labour light blue rinse, comes with massive borrowing. Thats what you get when you have a currency trader as PM for a decade.
The recovery from NAT new blue socialism will take maybe a decade, well past Winston's confusing influence.

Just as a bit of light entertainment and hefty kick in the fundamentals for our political poster who suggested Corbyn was the Tories secret weapon.
