ANOTHER MANUFACTURED NON NEWS STORY

From the TV1 news site here ... 'Why are Aucklanders getting cheaper petrol'.    Heading to the airport this morning on my way back home and at the Z outlet on George Bolt Drive 91 octane was $2.07.9 cpl.   Back here in Paihia at our Waitomo outlet it is $1.78.9 cpl (as of 15 minutes ago).

Now I know maths was never my strong point but !!!!!!!!!!!

That's because George Bolt Drive petrol stations are milking the uninformed tourists from the airport who don't know any better what the average petrol price in Auckland is (hint - it's a damn sight lower than $2.079)

My local, which is on the North Shore and tends to the high side of average for Auckland, is currently selling at 1.869, and I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere in the city.

The joys of the free market. The gummiint picks up the tax on the extra profit. Beats the hell out of a bed tax.

J Bloggs ... point taken but clearly there are many places around NZL that match if not better Akl prices. Adolf is right re the free market. Kerikeri is just 20k away from Paihia. Only two outlets in the town proper, Caltex and BP. Both indulge in price fixing at $1.99.9 cpl. It takes a minor player like Waitomo to show just how much they are ripping off a captive market.

Hmmm an extra tax on motor homes when they fill up instead of a bed tax.

You trying to give Dogger a heart attack.
