THE MEDIA AND TRUMP

As I predicted, certain sections of the media have declared all out war on President Elect Trump and its ugly.   Not a day goes past without reports of new allegations; not a day goes past without reports of divisions in the Trump ranks; never mind that much of accompanying commentary is puerile and never mind that in everything Trump is portrayed in terms of  'guilty until proven innocent'.

Take for example he reported division between the President-elect and his nominees for Defense Secretary and CIA Director over 'Russia'..   Trump sez he wants good relations with Russia while General Mattis (Defense) and Congressman Pompeo (CIA) both assess Russia to be the number one threat facing the country.   Has it occurred to those alleging division that the two statements are not mutually exclusive?

I hold no great brief for Trump except to acknowledge that he about to become President of the worlds number one super power.   But I think the media are playing a dangerous game.   They have to respect the office even though clearly they don't respect the man .... and never will.    Truth be known and the media needs Trump more the Trump needs the media.   He holds the cards.  He can pull their accreditation to the White House; he doesn't have to have news conferences; he can talk over their collective heads to the American people direct secure in the knowledge that only 40% of Americans consider the media to be somewhat trustworthy (down from 55% in 1999).    Those are not numbers to be proud of.   Walter Cronkite will be turning in his grave.

The fourth estate has an important role to play in the democratic process.    It seems to me they are getting close to editing themselves out of the game.

I could not agree more.

Judging by yesterdays editorial, The Australian does not appear to have woken up. They want Trump to stop bashing the media and to look more 'presidential.'

Fat lot of good that did for Dybbya.

Oh, don't shed any tears for poor Mr Trump. Take a look at what his friend at the National Enquirer published about Hillary Clinton if you want to see what a news company declaring "all-out war" on a candidate looks like. The selection of covers illustrated half-way down the article gives you a good representative sample.

PM ... not shedding tears for Trump. Some of his actions make me cringe. Just pointing out that there are dangers associated with what certain sections of the media seem bent upon doing.

Don't panic the New Zealand so called media are already gearing up to denigrate Key sorry English and the dreadful National Party.
Look at the celebration when the little fish pony gets the seat that Helen promised her, before that man Goff gave it to his friend, who has done a bunk, of Mt Albert.
Helen's job finishes in this years so she will be back in one of her houses in Mt Albert and surrounds to help little fish pony get her rightful desert and her place in history.
That is if national voters in Mt Albert do not vote for the more intelligent good looking Greenpeace candidate, as National is not wasting its money on this by-election.

I note Barbara Streisand has had another go while totally ignorant of the fact that so many will merely inquire, Barbara who?

Too far distant to even be yesterdays fish and chip wrapper yet the poor old thing still thinks she has an opinion worthy of media attention.

As a measure of relevance the only ones who wont ask the obvious or head to google will be the demographic for walking frames and comprehensive care options.
Hell the old dear is even older than me, however admittedly, much more talented but on matters political maybe the old adage "be silent and thought stupid-------" applies?

Maybe Joe Biden could have a word along the lines "it's over".

I blame the excuse for what passes as Media in the twenty first century, who have occupied many acres of the landscape and think leaving it barren will suffice for now.

An interesting documentary on NatGeo last week on Reagan, so much relevant in the discourse of the time as to "fitness for office" that is being repeated thirty years on only with so much more venom and unbridled vicious malevolence.
And that includes Trumps adversaries.

Well Veteran, there is certainly a lot to write about I almost don't know where to start.

Was Trump compromised in a hotel room, perhaps twice. Almost certainly, in fact I would very surprised if he wasn't. This is the standard Russian modus operandi.. Look at the history. Stalin's role model was the FBI's Hoover who had the dirt on everyone through illegal phone tapping and filming. At the Yalta conference in 1945 Churchill's and Roosevelt's Villa's were comprehensively bugged, right down to the steam room, there was not a fart or salacious slurp that went unrecorded.

Russians have been operating honey traps for 70 years Look at Geoffrey Prime a code breaker at GCHQ Cheltenham, homosexual black mail, passed secrets to the Russians for years. Have we forgotten the Profumo affair, Minister of Defence call girls and Russian intelligence.....what short memories we have.

All Britain's Junior diplomats were given briefings on honey traps and could expect to be targeted in the hope that one day they would be senior diplomats. There was one lovely story on radio 4 a few years ago about a Diplomat who went into his hotel bathroom and emerged stark naked wearing a paper bag over his head. Putin when head of Russian intelligence used compromising videos to rid himself of opponents.

Trump is Putin's puppet. Looking at his foreign policy announcements - they could have been written by the Kremlin; recognise the Russian seizure of Crimea and E Ukraine, drop sanctions, break up the EU, break up NATO. Only this morning he has tweeted about lifting sanctions put in place by the Obama administration. Putin must have some pretty serious dirt on him and if it wasn't for the press hot on his tail we would be in ignorance. The more they dig up the better as these are dangerous times and if the EU breaks up it is carte Blanche for Putin start reclaiming "Russian"
territory. How reliable is the MI6 agent? 100% according to those who worked with him including ambassadors however the smear campaign has begun because he is now a closet socialist and braggart and showoff.

Ghost Troll.... your references are?

How the troll factory works and I'm sure you are all able to recognise examples.......

1)Multiple accounts: This allows them to upvote/downvote several times. It also means they can have conversations with themselves where they support what they have written.

2) Cloned accounts: This is where they take the name of an 'opposition' poster and then post out of character/inflammatory statements to discredit the real owner of the 'tag'. It is, also, possible that they want to encourage heavy moderation or the collapse of the Board if the statements get too risky.

3) Encouraging cloning: Cloners post how to clone accounts on the Board. I wondered why propagandists would do this but I have come to the conclusion that they wanted the Board to become unusable because no-one would know if they were posting responses to the original poster or a clone. Indeed, some clones would pretend to hold the originals views for a while to 'suck in' the unwary.

4) False flagging: This seems to take three forms

i) Pretending to be a member of a group/party/etc who disagrees with the 'leftwing' view on a particular issue. This can be observed as it is usually preceded with something like 'I am not a racist but... Sometimes, they give their 'leftwing credentials' in the body of the text. This establishes the false-flag.

ii)Vigorous inflammatory comments, Capitals, swearing, insults and 'death threats' that can then be used by a Cloner to show how horrid the other side are.

iii) 'False-flag cloning': This is where the propagandists clone their own allies so they can claim the left did it.

5) Propagandist Projection: This is where the propagandist tries to assign the worst behaviours of their own side to the opposition side. Hence claiming that socialists are Nazis.

6) And let us not forget the smearing and claims of 'traitorship' and 'anti western leanings'...

I am sure there are more but these are a few of the tricks the rightwing propagandists use. Keep your eyes open and all moderate people should be aware that they may be trying to manipulate you.

One obvious mistake is when the Clone Troll forgets to use different avatar images. They then proceed to agree with posts they have made under a different name.

When confronted with their mistake they delete the comments. In one case, BOTH! What more evidence do you need that this was a single clone?

It's a very funny world out there.

Egbut, the General is 65. His response is soldierly.

Schwartz said he will work up until that moment, and then plans to retire from the Army. “I’m a soldier,” he said. “I’m a presidential appointee. Therefore, the president has the power to remove me.”

Lord Egbut, in addition to your troll factory post above, read what a Russian journalist has to say about dealing with Putin and spot the lessons President Golden Showers has absorbed.

Facts don’t matter. You can’t hurt this man with facts or reason. He’ll always outmaneuver you. He’ll always wriggle out of whatever carefully crafted verbal trap you lay for him. Whatever he says, you won’t be able to challenge him. He always comes with a bag of meaningless factoids (Putin likes to drown questions he doesn’t like in dull, unverifiable stats, figures and percentages), platitudes, false moral equivalences and straight, undiluted bullshit.

(...)

If your question is stonewalled/mocked down/ignored, don’t expect a rival publication to pick up the banner and follow up on your behalf. It’s in this man’s best interests to pit you against each other, fighting over artificial scarcities like room space, mic time or, of course, his attention.

(...)

This man owns you. He understands perfectly well that he is the news. You can’t ignore him. You’re always playing by his rules — which he can change at any time without any notice. You can’t — in Putin’s case — campaign to vote him out of office. Your readership is dwindling because ad budgets are shrinking — while his ratings are soaring, and if you want to keep your publication afloat, you’ll have to report on everything that man says as soon as he says it, without any analysis or fact-checking, because 1) his fans will not care if he lies to their faces; 2) while you’re busy picking his lies apart, he’ll spit out another mountain of bullshit and you’ll be buried under it.

It makes sobering reading.

Egbut ... re Swartz. Perfect example of the type of media reporting I was referring to ... (1) Maj Gen Swartz, a Presidential appointee (of George W Bush), submitted his letter of resignation as he is required to do on the election of a new President; (2) Trump's transitional team wanted to keep him in the job but (3) the Army pushed to have the resignation accepted.

Perhaps they were of the view that nine years in the top job was enough. They wanted someone younger.

This is a non story pedaled by those inflicted with a huge dose of the TDS. Bit Like the KDS only more justified.

There are a lot of people out of a job come the inauguration. It goes with the territory when you have a change of administrations. One would hope that the next shock horror story is not along the lines of 'Obama's White House Press Secretary told there was no job for him in the Trump White House' .... sigh.

True, but only up to a point. Trump has engaged in a purge that would make Mao blush and Stalin wonder why he had been such a softie.

He is gutting the administration of the uSates with no idea about who or how will replace those purged.

The uStates will have no Ambassadors, just when it will need them the most.

The uStates will have no senior staff in far too many government departments.

Each of his nominees for cabinet are people who are totally at odds with the departments he has chosen them to lead.

He said he would drain the swamp, but all he is doing is putting out the fire with gasoline.

President elect Pussy Grabber neither knows nor cares what he is doing as long as whatever he does feeds his ego.

Baghdad Kellyanne Conway is ageing visibly before our eyes as she spins more than Regan MacNeil, trying to legitimise everything post that Twittler sends out.

The Veteran said...

Jobson Growth ... crap and you know it. Purge nothing. Trump has done no more than every other President. All Ambassadors submit letters of resignation and political appointees (like Obama's Ambassador to NZL) are on their way quick smart.

No-one who voted for Trump voted for the status quo. They're not getting the status quo. Time will tell if his appointees are up to it but such is your TDS that you and yours are declaring them failures even before they cross the start line.

Trump's not perfect but the attacks on his legitimacy for office have the potential to backfire and may have the effect of legitimising attacks on all future Presidents by losers who refuse to accept they've lost.

Veteran......Timing old son timing.. out at 1201 hrs in the middle of a deployment. That shows a total disregard for the man's service record and hardly likely to improve moral in the troops he commands who incidently think very highly of him. The new kids in the toyshop have no idea what they are doing.

Drumph is totally obsessed with Obama, hates him with a passion, and is trying to remove all trace of him from the records. It makes the story of call girls pissing on the bed that Obama and wife slept in more than likely, in fact that would be right in character. Obama leaves with 57% approval rating and the orange one starts at 37%.

The CIA have been effectively emasculated with the Israelis and now the Germans very careful with what they share with the US knowing that it might get back to Moscow and Tehran. The British Govt. is falling over itself to be nice hoping for trade deals after Brexit. We ought be very careful about our US spy post because information gathered on economic matters can and will be passed on and used against us in any future negotiations.

Scary times made even worse by Drumphs determination to take on China much to Putins delight. The only good thing that on the horizon is that the Europeans are now realising that electing nationalist rightwing governments is a bad idea with the Russian threat hanging over them.....I should know, I'm two days drive away from the Russian border.

Traditionally Ambassadors wait to meet their replacements and talk them through local issues, it is important as it is polite.......this is not happening. Can you imagine V3 advance party turning up two weeks after V2 had buggered off.
