that Somali Refugee, Asha Abilla, sentenced to nine years imprisonment for trying to hijack an Air NZ aircraft during which she stabbed both pilots and a passenger, due to complete her sentence on 7 February, and assessed by the Parole Board as likely to (1) attempt another hijacking or (2) to set herself on fire should not be deported quick smart back to Somalia the minute she is released.

OK, I know it is planned that she will be transferred to a mental health unit under a  compulsory treatment order (CTO) on her release but perhaps someone could tell me the justification for this in my/our dime.

Being granted refugee status is a privilege not to be abused.   What God givith, God can taketh away.

From Immigration New Zealand:

"People who fear returning to their own country can ask New Zealand to recognise them as refugees or protected persons. People who lodge a claim for refugee or protection status in New Zealand are known as asylum seekers.

New Zealand has signed international conventions that support the right of people to seek asylum."

Sorry, but I don't see anything about privilege there.

How about the uStates Dept of Homeland Security :

"Refugee status or asylum may be granted to people who have been persecuted or fear they will be persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, and/or membership in a particular social group or political opinion.

Refugee status is a form of protection that may be granted to people who meet the definition of refugee and who are of special humanitarian concern to the United States. Refugees are generally people outside of their country who are unable or unwilling to return home because they fear serious harm. For a legal definition of refugee, see section 101(a)(42) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)."

Still not seeing any mention of privilege.

Perhaps you should consider why this poor souls is so tormented. Perhaps you could show a little compassion.

Perhaps offering her help for her mental demons is the humane, compassionate thing to do, not sending her back to the place that created her demons in the first place.

Any second now I expect to be labelled a "bleeding heart", an "SJW", or, shock horror. a "leftist". So, before you go down that road, let me say that I’d much rather be called a regressive leftist or an SJW, you know, people who actually fight for things to be better, than be mistaken for those who use the terms as derogatory trump cards.

You remind me too much of those who rail against Islamist terrorism and yet who fail to see that there was little to no Islamic terrorism until Bush assembled his coalition of the killing and destroyed what little social order there was in the ME.

Thank you Jobson well put. If we do not obey our own rules and create an example but behave on a whim or take offence at imagined slights then we can hardly expect developing nations to behave according to our standards.

Still waiting for the screams of outrage over the 40 killed in the Istanbul night club attack.....don't let the fact that 95% of the dead and wounded were moderate Muslims put you off gentlemen.

Lord Egbut Nobacon.

PS. A moderate Muslim is like a moderate Christian, easily distinguished by being in a club that serves alcohol and having a good time.

Oh really ME?

So did 911 happen before or after Bush invaded Iraq?

Islamic terrorism started around 1400 years ago upon the birth of a bloodthirsty tyrant called Mohammed.

You real ought to bone up on your recent history and stop generalising Jimmie lad.

Bush senior and the allies of which there were many including Arab countries were reacting to Iraqs invasion of Kuwait, it was justifiable reaction sanctioned by the UN. The damage was done much later by his imbecilic son Dubya. 9/11 and the first Gulf war are only vaguely connected. Try reading up on the crusades, plenty of Christian terror there. 25,000 Moors, men women and children put to the sword in one town 'cos my God is better than your God.........time you grew up and stopped the hatred otherwise you are just as stupid and bigoted as the people you are deriding.

Get your head out from the laptop and travel a little.

Give me strength and yes Jobson Growth (and NZL is experiencing both in record terms) you are indeed setting yourself up to be called a 'bleeding heart'.

The granting of right of abode to those entering our country (and that includes refugees) is a privilege not to be abused ... got it? ... the grant is not a right and never has been. It is limited to persons normally vetted by the UNHCR as fleeing oppression (not economic refugees) and who are of good character. The latter is important.

All countries reserve the right to deport persons without right of abode, even those who are longtime residents and/or possess permanent residency. In general, foreigners who have committed serious crimes, entered the country illegally, overstayed and/or broken the conditions of their visa, or otherwise lost their legal status to remain in the country may be administratively removed or deported.

I do have compassion. Compassion for the two pilots and one passenger who were stabbed. I have very little sympathy for this person. She is unlikely to ever be a contributing member of our society ... the reports make that clear. Far better to deport her back to whence she came and take in her place someone who is assessed as having respect for our society and its norms.

"People who fear returning to their own country can ask New Zealand..."

Not 'assume' or 'demand as of right'.

Chris said...

Send her back quick-smart. we don't want or need her type here. Couldn't care less about her refugee status. She stuffed that up when she committed the crime, and why do we have to be left to deal with this scum. Other countries seem to find it easy to send criminals home here, so why can't we reciprocate.

Anonymous said...

Chris.....deport her by all means, but only after due process, the same right that is accorded to our own citizens. She will be contained and assessed. It is doubtful that the Somali authorities would let her back in her present mental state.

If we started to deport the offspring of every pacific islander who attacked local dairy owners with axes, knives and baseball bats there would be an outcry.

Don't kneejerk, let due process play it's part and if it costs us, so what, there are plenty of New Zealanders in overseas prisons and mental institutions being kept at others expense.

Lord Egbut

The Veteran said...

Egbut ... I never suggested doing away with due process but your comment about 'our own citizens' doesn't make sense ... you can't deport your own citizens.

My advice is that the 'lady' in question does nor have NZL citizenship.

As for Kiwi citizens being held in prisons/mental institutions o'seas. I certainly would expect them to be deported back to NZL in due course and following due process.

That's the way it works. No sovereign country should have to pout up with another countries trash.

Jobson Growth said...

VETERAN, your own words give the lie to your claim "I never suggested doing away with due process."

In your original post you stated "be deported quick smart back to Somalia the minute she is released."

Where is the due process in that?

Adolf Fiinkensein said...

Jobless Jobson

Being deported 'quicksmart' IS the due process, included in which will be a five minute review of reasons for same.

No wonder you guys fawn over Pendejo -elect Trump so much. No understanding of the law, no consideration for anything other than your own tiny egos, only ever make judgements on self interest.

As an aside on the Pendejo-elect, isn't it interesting that the only singer for his inauguration is the daughter of American job stealing immigrants. I guess after she finishes her song she'll also be shown "due process" and press ganged in to building a wall.

The Veteran said...

Jobson ... it is axiomatic that 'deported, quick smart' means following due process.
We are governed by and abide by the rule of law. That is a given. Your bleeding heart obfuscation cuts no mustard with me. I wouldn't have voted for Trump either.

Your post is out of character veteran. It is the sort of press release that would have came out of Winston First's offices five years ago. I feel that you are dipping are into populist waters just to squeeze another term out of the electorate for the Nats..

Both Brexit and Trump came about because a few politicians tapped into popular feeling without having any policies at all in order to gain power. It is short termism at it's worst and in both cases if carried on to fruition will lead to financial disaster for both countries. Fear of immigrants and immigration has been used in both cases by the extreme right wing and a never ending onslaught by Putin trolls pretending to be concerned citizens of what ever country they are posting in.

The Somali women in question is not "trash" just a flawed and damaged human being of whom we know nothing about...whatever her past I'm sure it was not pleasant.

Lord Egbut

Adolf Fiinkensein said...

Like cheap wine, Egbut does not improve with age. He just continues on getting sour.

The woman's past is irrelevant. No doubt she is flawed and damaged. So why don't you trot off to Somalia, South Sudan and Syria and bring back 5,000 similr flawed and damaged people for the tax payers of NZ to look after?

And by the way, if you are going to ponce around showing off your erudite abitlity, it might pay you to learn some English.

... human being of whom we know nothing about.....

The Veteran said...

Egbut ... I agree ... the word 'trash' was harsh but I used it to make the point ... I believe she has forfeited the right to stay in NZL. As it happens I suspect the Government and I will agree to disagree on this but that's our respective right.

Eggnog, Adolf is simply using the oldest trick in the online world of opinion. When you have no factual rebuttal to a position, the Adolfians resort to argumentum ad grammarly.

In a forum such as this one should be judged on the content of ideas, not the ability to handcraft perfect prose.

Seems Adolf lacks the ability in either sphere.
