SOME UNKIND PEOPLE SAY I'M OFTEN CONFUSED

But this time I'm genuinely confused.    It is reported here that the Labour Party has suspended Jackie Walker, Vice-Chair of Momentum (Jeremy Corbyn's cheer team) over supposed anti-Semitic comments made by her at a Labour Party training event.

Last time I looked antisemitism was defined as exhibiting hostility, prejudice or discrimination against Jews.

But hold on ... Walker in her defense claims she's Jewish as is her partner.   So the question ... how is it possible to be prejudiced against oneself ... I guess having a split-personality is a must along with a deep inbred loathing of ones other self.

But in order to be a genuine anti-Semitic one would think she would have to renounce her religion.

One can be a Jew without being Semitic, just as one can be semitic without being a Jew. One thing is not necessarily the other. Anti Semitic is often used when person is actually anti Zionist.

David I disagree that a Jew can be anti-Semitic. It is a contradiction in terms.

I certainly agree a Jew can be anti-Zionist and some of them are but anti-Semitic and anti-Zionism are two quite different things.

At the meeting in the post she seems to be broaching the old question of the Holocaust memorial. Is it only to Jews or does it also recognize the five million other souls as well?
The fact that the Jewish Labour Party supporter were running an anti-Sematic awareness program for the party was probably the wrong venue to broach it.

It's simple enough. The Tories (the ones within Labour as well as without) have been using bullshit anti-semitism claims as a stick to beat Labour with. Jackie Walker's given them an opportunity for a further round of bullshit, so the Labour leadership wants to make an example of her before all the concern-trolling starts. No actual anti-semitic comments or attitudes are involved.

PM ... so it's all the Tories fault then ... thank you for clearing that up.

But I'm still confused. Hoe can a Jew be anti-Semitic?

Not all Jews are semitic. It's that simple. Look it up.

And not all Semites are Jews, many if not most, are Muslim.

You should read some of the ironically-named Anti-Defamation League's stuff. In their book, any Jews who have a problem with stuff the Israeli government does are anti-semitic because they're "self-hating" Jews. No-one said this stuff had to make sense.

Anti-semitism was going nowhere until the Jews got behind it.

No, no, most leftist / Labiur / D'RAT parties are actually anti-Semitic. Especially UK and NZ Labour - think Goff and Arafat, or Ken Livingston and Corbyn bring slammed by the Chief Rabbi a couple of months ago.
