WOT DO YOU DO WITH A RABID DOG?

Pretty obvious.    So what do you do with North Korea who, in defiance of the UN, have just exploded their fifth nuclear bomb with analysts saying they now have sixteen devices ready to go and the means to deliver them.

By any measure North Korea is an unstable society led by an unstable leader.  They don't hold to diplomatic norms.   Indeed, there is much to suggest that Kim actually believes his own rhetoric that his country can out-nuclear the forces arraigned against him.   Real dangerous stuff.

I despair there is no western leader (read US leader) with the balls to do a HST ... many faults but my hero nevertheless.   Dropped the bomb on Japan; championed the Marshall Plan; won that great come from behind victory against Dewey and fired MacArthur crowned himself God.

North Korea can be taken out with nukes in a single surgical strike.  Lets not get too precious about it.
Nukes are a bomb, albeit a big bomb, but a bomb nevertheless and can be precision delivered.   OK, there will be causalities but the alternative is Kim with his back to the wall and going for broke with Seoul and Tokyo modern day Hiroshimas and Nagasakis.

Of course the nervous nellies will protest the suggestion and will continue to protest until the air-raid sirens sound and then they will argue that 'he' was provoked into it anyway and it's all 'our' fault'.

Crap.

So maybe Trump might not be such a bad president after all?

I don't know how they would find out where he is, for a good surgical strike.
The Clinton regime had bin Laden organised once I think, and they actually missed him, and then after that they would see things like Mosques or some Saudi's in the sights as well, so went pansy. And also bin Laden was more difficult to find.
So its only one bang. You would need to invade immediately after, to hold the show together.
Where are the Russians on this, Trump could probably do it with Putin agreement.
Some people are wondering what the Military regime have in mind when Clinton [as and if President] dies. Probably just business as usual .

Adolf wets his pants at the thought of Trumplethinskin nuking everyone Adolf has ever had a road rage moment with.

Vet, how do you propose a "surgical strike" could be carried out on North Korea without

a) fallout affecting South Korea?
b) Fallout also affecting Japan?
c) China sitting back and doing nothing when its client state is obliterated?

Then, there is the morality of punishing an entire nation and its people because of the actions of a few. Rather too much like the OTT God of the OT if you ask me.

Then, look back on history.

How many wars, police actions, pre-emptive strikes, etc have the US carried out and how many of them achieved their objectives?

Did you learn nothing at all in that quagmire called Vietnam?

Forget him, he's a kid showing off and has the world media sucking up to his OTT press releases. As there is no accredited press org in Nth Korea all that is happening is we are being fed like a big Taupo trout.

A months news blackout on all things Nth Korean and he would go into a monumental sulk. The day he or his ancient bighatted generals start anything is the day they lose their power and perhaps their lives and they know this and will retain the status quo.

For decades the ruling powers have been indoctrinating their public with a perceived threat. Not surprising this latest test was conducted on the anniversary of the foundation of North Korea. I don't see any credible evidence that they are yet at the stage of mating a useable nuclear weapon with a delivery system.

If you put your smart arsery aside for a moment and look at the 'form' of the two candidates, I suggest your favorite is more likely to press the button. Especially if it means more money for her and more voters for the Democrats.

After all, there's not much of a stretch between murdering your ambassador and flattening a city, if that's what it takes to fit the leftist narrative of the day.

Many people dont know the difference between a tactical and a strategic nuclear weapon. We have been brought up by a media which claims that a Bomb dropped from a nasty Yoonighted States C130 Bomber in Auckland would wipe out the upper North Island.

A 1 kiloton Tactical Nuclear device would take out an area of around 1 square kilometre. The small amount of radiation degrades very quickly.

I live in Napier and have often thought of ordering one for central Hastings. We probably wouldn't even hear the bang!

The question is,how long will China put up with this? Until their interests are threatened. What are their most important and not up for negotiation interests that could be endangered by these clowns in big hats and coats? Is it the economy stupid?

The Veteran said...

TY TTSS and Shelldrake for some balanced comment. Like Shelldrake I wonder just how long China will put up with its 'enfant terrible'. There is ongoing tension on the DPRK-Sino border caused by North Koreans fleeing their country in search of a better life. But all that aside, for China, South Korea, Japan and the US the real worry is the shear unpredictability of Kim. His God like status insulates him from international norms and the only thing that is predictable is his unpredictability.

Sanctions against the DPRK have only a limited effect and very little on the power elite who govern the country. At a certain point all they will do is force Kim to lash out with a strike of his own ... much like Japan in 41 faced by the steel/oil embargo.

Gerald may be happy to let the rabid dog bite him but I'm not and neither I suspect would HST were he alive and still in the Whitehouse.

North Korea is a buffer state and the worst Chinese nightmare is any form of revolution and the slightest chance of Western values on it's border. It has already lost one client state on it's border, Nth Vietnam. Noel is right on this one and anyone who thinks that there will be change is due to be disappointed.

Any talk about kneejerk preemptive strikes is playing into the little fat bastards hands and raises his profile within his country.

Noel ... I think when China decides its had enough it will move quickly and surgically to force the collapse of Kim et al. The dividends China gets from propping up North Korea are sparse indeed and economically the DPRK is a drain on China. Above all China is pragmatic. It has long argued for the reunification of Korea but the problem here is that Kim will only agree to it on his terms. For China a win situation would be to have a vibrant and economically prosperous unified Korea ... setting the scene for the withdrawal of the 25,000 US troops stationed on South Korean soil. But that can only occur with the overthrow of the current North Korean regime.

The Veteran said...

Egbut ... two quite different scenarios and time will tell which one is right. I stand by what I said. Kim is totally predictable in his unpredictability and that I suggests exercises the minds that matter both in Beijing and Washington DC.

Adolf, you keep making this claim that Clinton murdered an Ambassador. I don't think you know what the word murder means.

Meanwhile, your Trumplethinskin seems to think that Hilary Clinton is a COP!

China and Korea have about 5000 years of recorded history. Throughout that period Korea has been the horse fly biting the bum of the bum of the horse.

Then China swats the fly. Why should anything change?

Adolf-

Mealy mouthed word for what? Your lies? Your stupidity? Your drinking of the Trumplethinskin koolaid? You are more deranged than Worried of Tauranga.

How odd that you, alone, of all the people on Earth, have knowledge of this "murder" that Clinton has committed.

As they say in America, "Piss, or get off the pot".

She's a goner.

Noel said...

The origin in this case doesn't matter because when you total all the factual evidence your claim that she a murderer it is unsupported. Piss or get off the pot. Must admit never heard that before so the challenge for you is to prove your accusation.

Way to early to make that assumption. It is an assumption and not a claim like Clinton is a "murderer"?

Ever heard of 'degrees of murder' as they apply in the US?

Second-degree murder: any intentional murder with malice aforethought, but is not premeditated or planned.

I suggest any half decent prosecutor could make that one stick.
