TRUMP DOUBLES DOWN

Has Trump no shame?   Following his attack on the character and integrity of two of his countries military Generals, one the standard bearer of his 'own' Party in the 2008 Presidential election, Trump has doubled down with an attack on the family of Muslim-American Captain Humayun Khan, KIA in Afghanistan, who had called our Trump for questioning the patriotism of Muslim Americans at the Democratic National Convention last week.   Khan senior asked whether Trump had ever read the first Amendment to the Constitution which guarantees freedom of religion.

Trumps gratuitous attack on Khan's family comes against the backdrop of controversy regarding his own record of (non) military service.    It has been widely condemned from across the political spectrum.

Perhaps the most telling was this statement from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) ... the countries oldest and largest veterans organisation.   They said "Election year or not, VFW will not tolerate anyone berating a Gold Star (#1) family member for exercising his or her right of speech or expression.   There are certain sacrosanct subjects that no amount of wordsmithing can repair once crossed".

The bad news for Trump is that the latest RCP poll average has Clinton 3.9% ahead.   The bad news for America is just that.

#1   Award bestowed on the families of members of the US military KIA.

John McCain, the 2008 Republican nominee, never made it to "General" rank, in his case an Admiral. His father and grandfather did but John McCain retired from the US Navy as a Captain.
A successful career, no doubt, but not really at the top. His many years as a POW certainly wouldn't have helped of course.

John McCain said this morning Donald Trump does not “represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers, or candidates.”

It seems that John McCain missed the memo about Trump being the nominee and thus he DOES represent the views of the Republican Party, its officers, and candidates.

Can anyone imagine what Trump would say if he had to attend a military funeral? Write a condolence letter to a family?

The man is a buffoon and a bully, he has less intelligence that one of Sarah Palin's fingernails and has a history of failure.

But the Vichy Republicans fawn over him, hoping to maybe be spared from the purges, rewarded with a sinecure or be placed in a position of power over others.

alwyn ... ty for the correction but it doesn't in any way detract from the sense of the post. It appears that physical problems resulting from his ejection from the A4 Shyhawk he was piloting when he was shot down and the subsequent beatings he received as a POW would have prevented him from achieving three or four star rank but it is acknowledged he would have probably made in to Rear Admiral had he stayed in the service. Instead he resigned from his job as the USN liaison officer to the Senate when he decided to run for Congress.

Meanwhile Trump was making his own sacrifices ... spew.

This is payback for the overrunning of the Libyan Diplomatic post by Islamists several years ago.

Madam Secretary Hilary emailed her people that it was a terrorist attack unrelated to a anti Islamist video put out shortly beforehand. Two ex marines heroically gave their lives saving the diplomatic staff over a period of many hours whilst the State Dept deliberately withheld military support that was available on standby and indeed stood down under military protest.

Hilary them told the mothers of the two marines their suns died as a result of the video.. a clear lie.

When one of the marines mothers complained the Democrats and media piled into her and shockingly abused her for her complaints and then the father of soldier Khan KIA used the Dem convention to attack Trump to much applause.

Trump is guilty of boorish behaviour in returning the insults.. ie, responding exactly like Democrats have done about Republican soldiers KIA.

Apparently this violates the established code that Republicans must respond in gentlemanly fashion against any crude attack against them from Dems.

Trump of course is wrong here and it will cost him because he doesn't have the media cover the Dems enjoy when they are boorish, but there will be millions of Americans who will be noting the disparity of media treatment.

Say what you like about all this.. 75% of Americans think the country is on the wrong track and dislike Hilary.. they were offered a plethora of well qualified Republican candidates who would beat Hilary but they chose Trump even knowing he was an awful man but at least one who was saying what they really think about their ruling elites and political correctness and middle class decay.

The USA is a faux democracy - Trump wasn't chosen by the republicans but by those who voted in the Republican primaries eligibility for doing so varies from state to state

But is was a fix - during the Primary season Trump got all the media oxygen while the establishment republicans floundered.

It was a fix of course to clear the way for Queen Hillary

Andrei said...

Of course the ghastly Clintons set this up - they used those Muslim people, a Gold Star family 'to attack Donald Trump and then that fellow Stephanopoulos pushed Trump into having to respond and finally stirred the outrage at his response

What Americans should do ids vote for Jill Stein just to get their democracy back from the people who have stolen it

Vet as usual has the mainstream media leading him by the nose.

I'm no fan of Trump at all but the one sided reporting in the MSM is just farcical.

Worse is the gullibility of those sucked in by a propaganda force that has had zero credibility now for decades.

Let's start with McCain. He may be a war vet but its not all rainbows and unicorns as the Vet would have us believe. There are plenty of veterans who served with McCain and have some pretty nasty things to say about him. In fact he's alleged by some to have collaborated with his NV captors.

As far as his political service goes, his "reach across the aisle" strategy has made him deeply unpopular with Conservatives in the Republican Party. He's seen as far too liberal and there have been two serious challenges in recent elections. This coming election it looks like he may almost certainly be knocked off by Tea Party candidate Kelli Ward.

However, even if Kelli Ward can't dislodge him, he may well lose to Democrat candidate Ann Kirkpatrick.

As for Khan, there's another story on him too, that the NZ MSM is certain not to tell you. The mother of an actively serving soldier has written him a letter. Here's part of it.

Unlike you, I could NEVER use my son’s death as a pawn piece in support of a woman that left “America’s treasure” (Hillarys words) to die unaided in Benghazi. The same woman that says vile things to her military details there to protect her. You, Sir, are supposed to be a witness to your son’s bravery and sacrifice. Instead you stood on a stage and promoted the woman that upholds the very people that killed your son.

You became a political PAWN that promotes pandering to our enemy. You desecrated your son’s memory by your words. You did not utter one word of outrage at anyone but Donald Trump. Are you forgetting that Trump did not kill your son. He had nothing whatsoever to do with these wars.

His memory should mean more to you than five minutes of fame on the stage of the party that voted to send your son to war. The same party that for eight years has denied and cheated our veterans out of their deserved medical care. Who for the last three years has cut our veterans pay.

The rest of it is here.

Try and wisen up Vet. You'll never get the real story or the back story from today's MSM. They'll mislead you every time. Especially where Trump is concerned.

The Veteran said...

Gueez Red ... you just keep getting worse and worse. Your source was Globalresearch, a squalid left leaning (wash your mouth out) organisation that keeps on blaming the west for all of the worlds evils.

But keep on defending Trump if you will. He is a fraud, a bully and a coward who never pulled on his countries uniform. He is a nothing and you're a nothing for defending him and, in doing that, you cut the ground from under your own feet by pinning your stripes (if you have any) to a mouthpiece of the 'Left' to malign his character and service. Amazing. You have managed to to destroy your own credibility completely in one single post. Anti communist you say ... your actions prove otherwise.

The Veteran said...

Andrei ... you mean 'the' Jill Stein? She who ....

(1) wants to nationalize the Federal Reserve (whatever that means)
(2) cancel all student debt by quantitative easing (i.e. print money) without raising taxes
(3) refuses to release her tax returns (much like Trump)
(4) cut US military spending by 50%
(5) supports China over the South China Seas dispute
(6) supports the boycott and disinvestment campaign against Israel
(7) Calls for the pardoning of the traitor Edward Snowden
(8) Wants to repeal Obamacare (1 out of 8 is nothing to crow about)
(9) argues for repatriations for slavery (bit like the Waitangi Tribunal on steroids)
(10)won 0.35% of the vote as the Green Party Presidential Candidate in the 2012 election.

If 'she' is that Jill Stein then I can see why you, as a Putin apologist, might think she's the bees knees. Anything to weaken the US of A.

Andrei said...

Veteran - no, the lady is crazy for sure but not all that list is bad

It is just that as this election cycle makes clear the USA's democracy is completely broken

The two main candidates are jokes, beyond appalling and neither is popular among the voters

We have got to the point where naked pictures of one candidates wife have been splashed on the front page of a Newspaper FFS

And nobody is debating the issues which are significant

Both parties are taking the voters for mugs and the voters need to do something about that

Redbaiter said...

You're amazing Vet.

It really seems as if you're completely ignorant of the allegations against McCain that have been around for decades. Long before Trump was ever a politician.

You complain about the source??

FFS, the basic source is other Vietnam vets who served with McCain, some of them Republicans. Your attempt to pretend I am a communist for raising them here is just infantile in the extreme. Worse than infantile, its laughable. A pathetic joke of a reaction.

Why can't you accept that this is an old story, has nothing to do with Trump, and nothing to do with the left.

Here it is on Wiki.

Here's the video the vets made way back in 2008.

Once again Vet, educate yourself for chrissake.

The Veteran said...

Listen Red ... I've been aware of those stories for a long time. They are pedaled by those with their own agenda and repeated by the 'left' media which you are quite happy to hang your hat on. The reality was that in August 1968 McCain was subjected to severe torture comprising rope bindings a beating every two hours all the while suffering from dysentery. Further injuries led to a suicide attempt stopped by the guards. Eventually he signed a confession (under duress). He later said it was dishonorable but that every man had a breaking point and had he reached his. A statement under duress has no standing. Who are we to criticise that?

So, dump on McCain if you will. I have met him. He is a honorable man who served his country with distinction ... and you??????? Someone who who gladly repeat propaganda pedaled by the Left who you purport to hate. You really have no shame, no integrity, nothing. Consumed by hate for everything that conflicts with your narrow and bigoted view of life. As far as I am concerned you can piss off from whence you came. You disgust me.

I await your smear campaign on Allan and Khan. Go to it and make yourself a further laughing stock.

Khan senior queried whether Trump had read the Constitution and said what he proposed (banning potential Muslim migrants for a time) was unlawful. In fact this is an authority specifically granted to the President back in the 1950s.

Khan sn has a law firm that specializes in assisting Muslim migration to the US (he's now hastily deleted his website but its still available via the Wayback Machine). Firms such as his are the current subject of House investigations for corruption and introducing undisirables to the US. He has a long association with the Clinton Foundation through his Saudi contacts for whom he worked for years in SA.

He appears to support Sharia Law and has written on its primacy. Maybe he's changed his mind since he wrote about Islamic law, if so he needs to publicly repudiate Sharia for at least the US.

I've now read a lot of fevered rubbish about Khan sn accusing him of being a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and other nefarious things but there most certainly is sufficient genuine material to question his motives in attacking Trump's stance on Muslim migration and using his son's heroism as a political prop.

The Veteran said...

Andrei ... yes. My comment stands.

JC ... grateful if you could reference your assertion re the President being able to bans Muslims immigrants per se. As for Khan having an association with the Clinton Foundation ... lotsa people have ... including a certain Donald Trump who is listed on the Foundation's website as having donated in the band $100,000 to $250,000 while his daughter Ivanka is recorded as donating in the band $5,001 to $10,000.

There you go again Red. dancing on the head of pin re the NY Times story ... all about his 1Y and 4F classification. Nothing about his 2S (student) deferment which lasted from Jul 64 to Jan 68 or his 1A (fit for duty) classification in Jul 68 leading to the self described 'athlete' getting himself downgraded to 1Y (medically exempt) four months later.

I was 'intrigued' reading his bio about his time at the New York Military Academy. He was sent there at age 13 after having left (expelled?) from the Kew-Forrest School because of 'behavior problems'. He graduated from NTMA after competing the 8th Grade. During his senior year he participated in marching drills, wore a uniform and obtained the rank of Captain. Here's the kicker ... last year he told his biographer that NYMA "gave him more military training then a lot of guys to went into the military".

Trump is a fantasist. Imagine any aspiring politician in NZL claiming that from his time in the School Cadets.

Trump is not a nice man. He's not a Republican. He's a Trump. The problem for America is that Clinton doesn't scrub up too well either.

Andrei said...

You know Veteran the last American President to have served in combat was George H W Bush who of course was a navy pilot shot down during the Battle of Okinawa

William Jefferson Clinton evaded military service while George W Bush served in the Texas Air National Guard - this service being a matter of controversy during the 2004 election campaign, you might recall

Bob Kerrey, a Navy Seal who lost a leg and won the Congressional Medal of Honor in Vietnam put his name in the ring to run for President for the 1992 presidential election on the Democrat ticket but was soon taken out by the Clinton's with a story in Time magazine accusing him of atrocities while serving in Viet Nam - we cant go that far back with links but here is a rehash from 2001, pointing the finger at Gore rather than Clinton as have been being behind it

Anyway if you have watched the interview you should realized that after being lead into commenting on Khan seniors speech Trump replied in his usual blunt manner but not in anyway that diminished Khan juniors sacrifice - then a full five minutes later after the Khan matter had long been dropped was asked about his sacrifices to get where he is today- nothing to do with military service and this segment was cut into the Khan sequence implying that Trump was equating his perceived sacrifices with those of Khan junior

The outrage is faux and as the Kerrey incident shows if it suits the powers that be dumping on someones Military service is fair game in American politics

Vet, you seem to be determined to suffer under the misapprehension that I support Trump. I regard him much as Ted Cruz does, ie as a "snivelling coward", and I deplore that he is the candidate the Republicans chose to run against the equally repugnant criminal Hillary Clinton.

At the same time, I regard the MSM as basically a criminal or at least corrupt enterprise that lies to us & cheats us continually, and a bigger threat to Western freedoms and culture as Donald trump, as bad as he is.

Whatever happens with Trump and Hillary we must at least try to arrive at the truth and not allow ourselves to be manipulated by the despicable corrupt cronyist institution that is today's media.

I repeat. They are the worst affliction Western civilisation now bears, and in fact it is their corruption that lead to Trump's rise anyway.

We are so fortunate to have the internet, and organisations that struggle to fight back against the appalling corruption of the MSM.

Here for example is a late news item from Breitbart that brings us some much needed balance on the matter of migrant's constitutional rights.

Virtually all Constitutional Scholars agree Muslim ban would be legal.

The Veteran said...

Red ... Hallelujah ... we can agree on something. Trump and Clinton are both bad and neither deserve to be POTUS. Trump's lack of military service is a matter of public record. We can argue the toss about the circumstances surrounding his 1Y/4F classification but the fact remains that neither he nor 'Slick Willie' nor Obama have any great standing within the military or appreciation of what it means to pull on the counties uniform.

See in particular Sen. McCarron's almost prophetic words viz the situation today.

I'd also echo some of Red's words.. Trump is the almost inevitable result of the failure of the political class, particularly the Republicans for their spinelessness and corruption in particular over illegal immigration.

Its no accident that Trump is/was a Democrat most of his life.. his style is right out of the Dem playbook.

"Get in their faces... punch back twice as hard" (Sen B Obama, Presidential candidate 2008)

Here's some more about Khan. It would be too strong to say Stolen Valour but pimping it to preserve profits might fill the bill.

JC ... thank you. I have been around long enough to know that most people work to their own agenda ... immigration will always be a sensitive subject in the western world notwithstanding the fact that the US/Aust/NZ were built on immigration. Go back to the mid 19th century in the US and there was considerable outcry from what was essentially Protestant America about the perils of Catholic immigration. Times change ... delete Catholics, insert Muslims.

Whether the President has the power to ban people of a particular religion is a moot. At any rate it's not now the issue as Trump has backed away from his earlier rhetoric to say that all immigrants from countries where there is significant terrorist activity will be subject to 'extreme' vetting ... whatever the means.

I can also agree that both Trump and Sanders are products of the anti-establishment mood evident in the US today. The deadlock between a Democrat President and the Republican controlled Congress with neither side overly interested in compromise is hardly a recipe for good government.

Adolf Fiinkensein said...

Vet

I think you are being a bit tough on the Republican controlled congress. When faced with the sheer bastardry of most things Obama wanted to do, which ones do you think they should have caved in on?

The Veteran said...

Adolf ... you may or may not be right in what you say but the reality is that the RCP data has it with only 12.8% of respondents approving of the way Congress is doing its job (79.8% disapprove ... rest are don't knows/couldn't give a stuff). It's those sort of numbers that helped give rise to the Trump/Sanders 'a plague on both your Houses' campaign.

Adolf Fiinkensein said...

Vet

That may well be so when most of them are spoon fed Democrat talking points by NYT, WAP, LAT, MNBC, CNN, CBS and Co.

I think you'll find reality is that the Obama administration has been the most lawless in American history and there was nothing which the hapless repubs could agree to in good conscience. Absolutely nothing.

That's why I asked you to provide some examples. If you are unable to I would not be surprised because I doubt there are any.

The Veteran said...

Adolf ... it may be a case of perception 'trumps' reality. But in politics perception matters a lot hence the support achieved by Trump, Cruz and Sanders over 'establishment' politicians.
