And The Beat (Up) Goes On

On it last day of life as it was known, the Herald has a pathetic rerun of Phil Twyford's 'Chinks Are All Evil' effort.  Here's the opener:

Nearly 60 per cent of New Zealand houses sold to foreign buyers went to Chinese investors, new data shows.

My God, that's appalling!!!  But when you read down a little you find the evil Chinese investors bought just 2% of all homes sold in NZ.  Yes that's right a lousy TWO PERCENT of all sales.  Just 276 houses across the whole country.  I'll lay good money on the table that the majority of these would have been bought by parents of university students as a better option than paying rent for three or four years.

No wonder these disgusting useless bastards have to merge with the other useless bastards.

Ye Gods...if you are going to spin a story or cherry pick try and do with a degree of competence.

If Yew Fuk Wei and his mates with all their ill gotten gains buy up property they are hardly going to use their own names are they?. They use nominees and Trusts (where have I heard that word before?). Also not mentioned is that if there is competition for high end market properties it causes a money cascade which ripples out to the smaller towns close by increasing prices as it goes.

Your knee jerks faster than a one legged tap dancer.

Why would they want to expose themselves to tax rates of 45% by establishing a foreign trust when they don't have to? Why would they expose themselves to tax liability that would not otherwise exist?

Further I'd be interested to know how many of the 276 homes purchased by overseas resident Chinese were sold to them by Chinese vendors. Wouldn't be surprised if there were more than just two or three.

But hey, nobody is interested in balance, least of all the denizens of Stuff_ME.
