And Now For Something Different

Australasia v The World, Cricket, that is.

NZ is playing Australia in Perth tomorrow after a humiliating first test defeat.

So, here is my dream team, from 1970  to today.

Bowlers:-

Dennis Lillee, Richard Hadlee, Glenn McGrath, Daniel Vettori and Shane Warne.

(Note, none of the quicks bowled short shit.)

Batsmen:

Martin Crowe, Greg Chappell, Glenn Turner, Adam Gilchrist, Brendan McCullum, Steve Waugh.

Hadlee and Vettori made plenty of runs when batting so could be classes as all rounders..

I think you are a bit generous in the number of New Zealanders you include in the team but that is purely a matter of opinion.
I would have to disagree on the comment that Lillee didn't bowl short balls.
He was a bowler who liked to hit the opposing batsman and bowled short to anyone who managed to score off him.
Bloody good mind you. Even Viv Richards seemed a bit shocked by his bowling.

There was not a lot of science in the choices. Just my personal preferences.

Some interesting calls, Adolf. I am not sure the captain would thank you. In fact, he would probably give you the task of telling one of the quicks that he was bowling into the wind.
I have always preferred Chappelli to the more elegant Greg. He was a really tough nut to crack. Doug Walters, too, would be hard to leave out .

Hardto see McCullum in a line up like that - if it has to be another New Zealander then Williamson has done enough but Bradman would be hard to leave out.

If you were looking for a further all-rounder wouldn't Chris Cairns figure here? Cadwallader

Availability might be a problem!

There's a difference between bowling short shit (Mills) and bowling the odd bumper (Lillee.)

Of course you need another three or so to make up a squad so yes, Ian Chappell, Doug Walters and John Wright.

So, Australasia will play a combo of:

Eng/SA
Pak/Ind
WI/SL

Have these teams been selected?

No

Why don't you have a go?

The Windies of yore were formidable.
