Spare A Thought .......

.....for John Armstrong at The Herald.

After weeks of hype about a waitress's ponytails and the PM, the poor bastard has been forced to admit defeat.  You can almost fell the tears of frustration soaking his keyboard.
By this stage, one thing was very clear. The Opposition's attitude suggested those parties considered there was little more to be milked from ponytail-gate. Further pursuit of the matter only risked annoying those who never considered it mattered in the first place.

Mr Armstrong used to be a reliable and reasonably neutral commentator but these days I'm inclined to think he is writing in instruction from his rabidly ant- John Key editors.

For example, here's the Herald headline.

"Whanau Ora spending slammed in Auditor-General's report"

Here's what the report actually said.

"An innovative idea should not be abandoned just because of implementation problems. I earnestly hope that those involved with the next phase of Whanau Ora are able to take my criticisms on board and learn from them."

Some slam, eh?

Maybe this had something to do with it. Key results in areas that actually do matter

Perhaps Armstrong has finally realised that when the likes of Unite and McCready take up a cause, the horse is well and truly dead - and no amount of flogging will bring it back to life.
