On Atheists and Fundies

Have you ever noticed how atheist ratbags endlessly quote from Leviticus and Deuteronomy to show that Christians are a pack of bastards while fundamentalist so-called Christians endlessly quote from Leviticus and Deuteronomy, thus demonstrating what a pack of bastards they are?

I was reminded of this when yet another thread over at Kiwiblog descended into such a barney.

Of course, both athies and fundies miss the elephant in the room.  Christ was not around and Christianity had not been invented when those old testament books were written.

Christianity is of the new testament but both sides keep harping on about the old testamenet which largely is a history of the Jewish nation,  That Jesus fellow came along with the express purpose of weaning people off their slavish adherence to Jewish laws.  That's why they klled him.

So, for most Christians, the old testament simply puts the life and teachings of Jesus into context while the new testament largely shows by his example how we might be better citizens.   It is difficult to find in the accounts of the life of Jesus any instructions on stoning one's daughters or on killing people who stray off the straight and narrow.

Of one thing you can be sure.

There is more reliable empirical evidence to support the death and resurrection of Christ than can be found in support of the global warming/climate change fraud/scam/ hoax.

Apart from your last paragraph, it is apparent you are mis-informed on what you're talking about, old son.

The Old Testament is the preamble to Messiah, promised first to the Jews then to the world. Jesus did not show up to encourage civil discourse and make us better citizens. He preached the Kingdom of Heaven and saving whoever chose to believe from their sin as an undeserved gift. The OT gives direction as to what God labels as sin. Choose life and not the mush you have written.

Yah generalising again. No surprises there. But hey most atheists I know aren't really interested in shooting down believers. Interesting science a couple of years ago putting it more likely there was never a God just a locus in some brains to be more tuned to accepting that there is. But hey what ever rocks yah boat.

"Christianity had not been invented when those old testament books were written."

Christianity is an invention? That's an "interesting" theological position for a professed Christian to take.

"There is more reliable empirical evidence to support the death and resurrection of Christ than can be found in support of the global warming/climate change fraud/scam/ hoax. "

Is there? Well you won't have any trouble laying it out for everyone then will you? Away you go.

I know that after 60 odd years on this planet I should no longer be surprised, but I am constantly amazed at how little those who profess xtianity actually know about xtianity. Where to begin?

Christ was not around and Christianity had not been invented when those old testament books were written.

Have you read the first verse of the Gospel of John? Seems like Jesus was always "around".

Jesus did not come to Earth to found xtianity. He came to reform Judaism. He was, is and always will be, a Jew.

That Jesus fellow came along with the express purpose of weaning people off their slavish adherence to Jewish laws.

How about Matthew 5:18? Jesus was here acknowledging the OT as god's law.

That's why they klled him.

No, Jesus was killed because he challenged the status quo, the authority of the times.

Jesus was also killed so there could be a resurrection. No crucifixion = no resurrection = no miracle story = business a usual.

It is difficult to find in the accounts of the life of Jesus any instructions on stoning one's daughters or on killing people who stray off the straight and narrow.

Jesus would have quite happily permitted the adulterous woman (John 8: 1-11) had the accusers actually followed the mosaic law and brought both parties to him, but as only the woman was brought, Mosaic law was not fulfilled.

There is also Matt 10:34.

There is more reliable empirical evidence to support the death and resurrection of Christ than can be found in support of the global warming/climate change fraud/scam/ hoax.

A claim often made, but never proven.

Jesus left no writing.

There is not a single record by an eyewitness to anything Jesus supposedly did or said. All you have are third and fourth hand accounts.

There is not a single mention of Jesus in the Roman record, even though they were as meticulous as the Nazis for documentation.

And before you bring up Josephus, that has been debunked so many times, by believers as well as non believers.

And to finally go back to (...)Christianity had not been invented when those old testament books were written.

Christianity was invented by Paul. It had nothing to do with Jesus and his mission. There are no xtians, you are all Paulines.

Most xtians believe through ignorance. Atheists know far more about xtianity and that is why were are atheists. We know and understand it far too well.
