HOPE I'M NOT GOING TO BE STRUCK DEAD FOR SAYING THIS

but the news that Kevin Rudd has thrown his hat in the ring for the top job at the UN which will see him competing against Helen Clark leads one to the conclusion that in a race between the two of them there would be a clear winner ... and it wouldn't be Rudd.

Can it be that Rudd's ego is such that he is entering the contest in order to siphon votes off Clark and take her down a peg or two.   That would appear to have some credence given his statement here that he doesn't stand a chance and that it's Europe's turn to take over from Ban Ki-moon when he retires as Secretary-General in 2016.

Kevin Rudd ... a mystery, wrapped up in an enigma and consumed by his own self-generated importance.

So is this an expensive race for second and third? Or ninth and tenth?

The UN needs to get someone in there with a few brains. Enough of these raging socialists.

I'm barracking for Modi.

What? He's not running?

Well, he should be.

One certainty is that neither Clark or Rudd will add any value to what is an organisation well past its use by date.

From inside UN New York relative Clark is not at all popular - she from the start knows how to upset and get rid of staff - Simpson really
Nobody gets to Clark but by Simpson.
She has made many enemies internally and is not respected for her work - she has been responsible for a number of political SNAFUs

Clark is an interesting mix - poison with added poison by way of H2. A work colleague worked in parliament in the Clark years and her stories about the raging temper and egos of both the H's were interesting.

I love the way that anonymous tosser is pretending to have all this third hand inside knowledge. I know a person who knows a person who works in Wellington somewhere and reliably informs me that John Key is a vampire!

Who's Helen Clarke btw?

Howie ... as much as the dark side of politics would like to pretend the the Prime Minister is a vampire and eats babies one would have to suspect it's not true.

What we do know now is that Kevin Rudd, having tested the water and ascertained just how toxic he is to the international community, is now denying he was ever interested in the job despite his mate, Kim Beazley, sometime ALP leader and currently the Aust Ambassador to the US, reporting that he (Rudd) was actively lobbying for the position.

I suspect Rudd has about as much going for him ion the credibility stakes as the rooting tooting Labour Mayor of Auckland.

You lack imagination, Vet. Rudd would make a superb hostage.

Nookin ... only to his own ego.

Well when Aussie applied to hold the soccer world cup the got one vote, their own. I wonder if Kevin will be able to equal that score, I certainly hope Clark doesn't better it.
