Last Autumn the area yesterday declared to be in drought by Nathan Guy was undeniably wet with gazillions of tonnes of water flowing to the Pacific ocean.
Sitting here on the shore of Max Smith's legacy. Lake Ruataniwha, how many of those tonnes could have been retained and released at present to augment the river flows that are being shut down for irrigation.

Apart from arbitrary decisions of Crats who recently increased the minimum flow of the Waiau where the Amuri Plains scheme take is situated, from the original 13 cumecs to 26 cumecs and for why???.

NZ doesn't have water shortage problems, it has water management issues. I see the South Rangitata scheme is operating well. I do not see any reason why it cannot be replicated in other drought-prone regions?
