Ingratitude In Spades

Most New Zealanders accorded Eleanor Catton the recognition due for her undoubted success in the world of literature when she won the Booker Prize.

Currently on a junket to India this adorable ingrate has indulged her Green Party credentials and given a swift one to our collective groin with a rather injudicious outburst;

"she is uncomfortable being seen as an ambassador for New Zealand which she says is dominated by neo-liberal, profit-obsessed, shallow and money hungry politicians who do not care about culture."

I wonder if the little jumped up arrogant replica of a female dog has any understanding of what this country has donated to her over the years of her indulgent occupation of our oxygen supplies?

As with so many suddenly elevated by talent or luck to the main stage she suddenly feels an urge to fling muck at others who provided her with her chance of fame but she regards with an undoubted disdain as if we have collectively trod in her excrement.

She has the right to say what she thinks although she is perhaps pushing the boundaries of good taste in saying it overseas while equally, I have the right to call her out as an effete chardonnay swilling socialist of the poor little rich girl type.

I didn't realise she did irony so well.

Having a go at those who have been successful at business then put their head above the parapet to win the popularity contest that is politics, and then complaining about the tall poppy syndrome.

I guess she may not have seen it through the Green haze...

"Ingratitude" to whom? Is there some debt of gratitude she owes to "neo-liberal, profit-obsessed, shallow and money hungry politicians who do not care about culture?"

Novelists tend to be shrewd observers of character, and she certainly seems to have Key's number. He wouldn't know culture if it was biting his arse.

"Neo-Liberal", I remember when George W Bush was around, it was the Neo-Cons that were the boogeyman for the left...

Standard green party whinging aside, I think she has a point about her award being claimed as a NZ achievement, when it was her individual efforts that made it happened.

I don't agree that it was talent that elevated her - I read an excerpt from The Luminaries and I thought it was hopeless.

I suppose Red Radio snapped her up to enlarge on her comments this morning, if not Campbell live will be drooling over her tonight. ..She does however seem to have the intellectual capacity to qualify for a situation at the United Nations Development Fund.

Like all Booker prize winners, her book is one long yawn, all about style over substance, it is totally leaden and heavy going. Big deal. No good book with a decent, readable and fast paced story will ever win the leftie Booker prize.

The leftie Man Booker prize. FFS. From their website:

Man is a leading alternative investment management business with a diverse offering in hedge funds and long only products across equity, credit, managed futures, convertibles, emerging markets, global macro and multi-manager solutions. At 30 June 2014, Man managed $57.7 billion.

Was it really necessary to imply she is a bitch?

Hate speech against women should stay on Kiwiblog.

Isn't this amusing? A highly intelligent and successful woman criticises brain-dead neo-liberals and is rewarded by being viciously and incoherently attacked by a bunch of nasty, brain-dead neo-liberals. Prove her point much?

Oh and Vet, congratulations on your use of effete as an adjective. Now look up what it means, tory psychopathic.

EtC ... ok I plead guilty. Yep, used it as an adjective ... 'over refined, studied, pretentious, precious. self indulgent' ...
fits.

Bit like someone else.

Patronising prick.
