Controlling The Language, Framing The Debate.

When Clare Curran came to the national, actually Labour, political scene like a meteor, it was largely on the back of a paper she presented to a party talkfest on how Labour had to  control  the Message.
Now that lump of cold remnant rock lies on Labour's table as the MP for Dunedin South and is as active as any other remnant from outer space when cooled but what she wrote had resonance then and always will.

There is a concerted and co-ordinated effort currently,  to paint the Key Administration as 'arrogant' as that is a fairly predictable descriptive for any government and allows a passably valid reason to dump them from office. Very easy to claim and requires no evidence as the mere act of governing can be titled 'arrogant'.
Labour enjoying the privilege of an angry little man thrust upon them as leader by the union rump, are now being described as fresh, ambitious and taking the 'fight' to the government under the very forceful and shouty actions of their new 'man' who learnt his tradecraft in successive union meetings where such activity is the only game in town.
Too bad it is just noise and delivered in the absence of any dissent, has no validity and is predicated on all out attack with no content offering any solutions .

The "new offensive" is clearly co-ordinated by faceless people as the Melons and the pinstripe dwarf's menagerie have all bought into it.

Ignore if you will that Key has retired almost half the bunch who inhabited the opposition benches over six  years ago, forget any international lauding of the path back from the GFC, forget the awesome expansion of the country's trading opportunities,  omit any reference to the visible raising of our country in the eyes of the international community and just don't recognise the almost impossible fact that the government was re-elected with an almost impossible govern alone plurality just over two months ago under our MMP illegitimate abortion that is supposed to prevent that ever happening.
All  achieved in the face of possibly the most concentrated and planned assault on our democracy ever.

So now the vein popping leader of Her Majesties Loyal Opposition and his scurrilous little coven of craven nonentities are all singing from the arrogant song sheet, songs variously called: Attack bloggers, Dirty politics, Texting the  most toxic man in the nation, Rushing freedom curtailing legislation through the parliament, Trampling privacy, Ignoring sage advice from half wits, Politicising the public service, Talking up a non existent recovery, Putting all our eggs in one milk tanker, oh and the closing number sung by old blue eyes aka Little Angry Andy  "They are Arrogant".

This folks is Goebbels 101 propaganda, tell a lie for long enough and it will become the truth.

Matt McCarten the wonderfully successful election strategist is still embedded in the LoO office on the Taxpayers coin, and his sticky, if somewhat discredited fingers are all over this.
So demonising possibly the highest profile political figure bar none outside the parliament, and that field includes all the old hacks who inhabit the press gallery, will continue while Armstrong, Soper, O'Sullivan, Dann, Gower, Garner, Bradford, Smalley, (cricky what a bunch of nobodies) only dream about Slaters profile and rating stats,  will continue pretty much like weather, more every day just different.

Folks you aint seen nuthin yet.

GREEN PARTY AND CHARTER SCHOOLS

So Ms Delahunty, Green Party Education Spokesthingy and Shill for the PPTA thinks that because Auckland's Vanguard Military College roll has dropped from the 104 it started the year with to 79 now that it's a failure.

The only failure is that Delahunty is so closed minded and wedded to the one glove fits all State sector approach that she is incapable of recognizing that these schools pick up those the State system has failed.    Were it not for likes of Charter Schools those attending them would probably be wandering the streets creating mayhem.

But no, in the Green's lexicon (and Labour's too) the whole concept of Charter schools is evil.   Blindly beholden as they are to the teacher unions that pull their strings and incapable of thinking outside the square.  Bugger the kids and ideology rules OK.    The State and only the State has the answers ... stupid and sad.

Gee Whiz, That's Gotta Be Better

In over thirty years of priceless promotion of NZ as an adrenaline producing  Tourist destination without a single fatality, the Speights Coast to Coast is under serious threat from a "Work Safe" requirement for all competitors doing the Kayak stage to have a certificate of competence that will cost upwards of $5k each.

Now there is no similar requirement for TV gamers who will still be allowed to kill kids without any impediment but some numpty in a shiney seat at a desk in Wellington will put impossible hurdles in place to prevent deaths that as yet have never happened.

Sadly a fisherman is missing presumed drowned in the North after his inflatable was flipped by a wave, yet he did not have to have a certificate.

FFS Mr Key and your bunch of killjoy enablers get your coats off and sort out the total morons who without any reference to common sense are ripping the guts out of "can do" citizens who have made this country great.

PHILLIP JOHN SMITH

I see that Smith is to be segregated from his fellow felons at 'Pare' and subject to their most restrictive regime.   You can see the video and read the comments of the Northern Regional Commissioner Corrections here

Oh dear, how sad, never mind ... although watch this space for some bleeding heart lawyer/do gooder to claim that Smith is being unfairly treated and his human rights violated ... sigh.

Cricket Can Be Like That, Sometimes.

Amidst the turmoil of the fallout of the shocking death of Phillip Hughes, The New Zealand game with Pakistan being played in Sharja resumed overnight after a 24 hour postponement.

In a lengthened first session to accommodate "Friday Prayers" The "home" team lost seven wickets for 70 odd runs with off spinner Mark Craig taking career best 7 for 94, This from the bowler who has been hit for a rather humiliating number of sixes during the current test series.
That should have had the chemists reaching for their test kits but what came next was even more bizzare, skipper McCallum hit the fastest test hundred, eclipsing Ross Taylors mark, with the day ending NZ 100 behind with 9 wickets in hand Pakistan first innings.

The days first wicket came from Southee getting Misbah to snick a wide ball to Wattling and  that success completely without any show of emotion from the NZ team.
New Zealand did not bowl a single 'bouncer' in what turned out to be an unbelievable session

Surreal is the word I choose in response to one of the best days for the NZ team on this  tour.
In a silent acknowledgement of the sad passing of Phil Hughes, the NZ players placed their bats with their black caps on the handle along the fence by the players gate before play began.

Banks Conviction Overturned.

Press conference at 1500 hrs.

Where Could It Be Fixed?

The Ginga Whinga is going to save us all, Utter Bollocks.

Using a prediction from the Environment Commissioner  today, that sea levels could rise by up to half a meter by 2050, XXXX embarks on another crusade to destroy our wealth creation with demands NZ seriously reduces carbon emissions immediately.

If NZ ceased creating CO2 next Monday it would reduce world emissions by less than 1%
and it would be one hell of a task as rather uniquely, we produce most of our emissions from livestock metabolism.

Now Wussel one way we could make a serious contribution to your impossible dream would be to stop generating energy and heating from burning coal and natural gas and replace that source with modern nuclear plants.
I will not hold out any hope for that  signal to the rest of the world but that is a low emission solution to your imagined problem.

I Know Which Is The More Tragic.

Phillip Hughes, a talented and successful Australian Cricketer dies three days short of his 26th Birthday playing the sport he loved and on the cusp of a recall to the Test side next Thursday.
Sean Abbott bowled a legal delivery and Hughes attempted a hook shot, the ball struck Hughes below the protective helmet in a totally freak incident rupturing a major artery delivering blood to his brain.

Yesterday Hughes was taken off life support and died pain free very soon after in the presence of his family and friends.

Meanwhile Heidi Welman  Scott 41, was stabbed to death on Auckland North Shore by her ex partner while under a protection order.
Bizarrely, Heidi died during White ribbon week and her killer arrested at Auckland Airport attempting to flee and had been due to appear in the North Shore court on charges of breaking that protection order.

On the evidence published so far Hughes tragic death occurred within the laws and best practice in current use. He possibly did not even understand what happened and the ball brought no more fear or premonition than many others faced. He was felled in an environment of his choosing among friends, family and comrades
Poor Heidi died because a benighted system didn't lock a bastard scumbag up while his alleged breach of a protection order was processed. She died after an attack that was months coming and would have confronted the sheer terror of what her killer intended to do to her. Heidi was felled in the absence of all those hand wringers and sycophants paying lip service to all the legislated rubbish that in the end moments of her life were absolutely of no support or assistance at all.

Which was the more tragic? Which death is being given the greater coverage in NZ Media.

RIP Heidi Welman Scott and Phillip Joel Hughes.

No Not The Mousetrap.

But been running for a whole lot longer is "Dirty Politics".

The Mousetrap is a monumentally successful Westend of London Stageplay running continuously since 1952.
Dirty politics has been running since the genre began.

The Rat trap was a production of Whaleoilbeefhooked.whaleoil.co.nz
A socialist claiming a desire to establish a leftwing blog sought Cameron Slater's assistance in establishing "Slightly Left of Center" as a more palatable offering than the rather extreme Dailyblog and The Standard.
Slater was open and helpful but suspicions led him to set a test and lo and behold the trap closed when good old Auntie Annie aka Annette King, gave the bait to little lardy Megan Woods and the trapped animal was one Josh Foreman.
Dear old Auntie Annie, you might remember her as the landlord and ultimately protector of Vunderkid Darren Hughes who has been skulking in hiding following an unsavory evening that ended with a naked man running down the street to escape Hughes.

But you will not read about this or hear it from the sycophantic MSM, the truth will out as the net closes on the tawdry events around the stolen emails of Cameron Slater.
Dirty Politics is possibly a challenger for the oldest profession and those nice people in Labour along with their enablers The Melons will have many questions to answer if the MSM discover the truth is bigger than their precious socialist agenda, discover the jar their balls are stored in and start revealing the true story.

Popcorn futures could be attractive as a hedge.

Who's Counting?

Heard the Ginga Aussie Communist whinging yet again on the evil Nats geting donations to support their Political campaigns  on Newtalkzb Breakfast show

Guess what  comes up, yep taxpayer funding for fringe political movements with insufficient appeal to attract funding from donations of supporters.

Should taxpayer funding increase from the already significant levels that were exploited by the oh so innocent Melons when they manipulated the departure of Tanzcos, sidelining Delahunty and Ward to enable Norman to enter parliament and gain access to parliamentary Services funding for an upcoming general election as the penis equipped co- leader replacing Donald.

The case for increasing taxpayer funding for lobby groups masquerading as 'parties' will be slightly more palatable when a formula for counting volunteer activities is added to the mix
The trade union official who runs a parallel campaign funded by membership levies with no permission from the member with the intelligence to judge the beneficiary of such largess true worth and reject it.
The tree hugging perennial student already enjoying a state sponsored income campaigning for the Melons.
Public servants campaigning for their beloved socialists using paid work time and resources.
Mobilising beneficiaries to carry out leaflet drops in spite of the debilitating ailment that precludes active work or seeking same.

While the entrepreneur working every hour available to gain success, choosing to donate cash in lieu of valuable personal time will be required to account for such political involvement under threat of criminal prosecution for a lapse of accurate acknowledgment.

Cash is of minimal impact in political campaigns and can have a very negative outcome as demonstrated with the millions splurged by Herr Schmitz that had only one tangible outcome other than an orgy of hypocrisy when Nga Pui's ordained one was given his beans.

REAL CLASSY NOT

The vitriol that one sees from the extreme Left side of the political divide continues to amaze but not suprise.   Take this little gem from a Messina N Aaron Carter posted on the Internet Party Facebook page .... "Why he got reelected puzzles me and prob 100's of others too, wouldn't it just be a hoot if their next Headlines read 'John Key Assassinated' ... Sometimes I wish wishes really did come true."

Not much more to be said except with a name like that it shouldn't be too difficult for the DPS to track that person down to go on their 'watch' list.

Reminds me of the incident in the early 1990's when that paragon of virtue and poster girl for the hard Left of NZl politics, Pam Corkery, said on her talk show and referring to Ruth Richardson that we would all be better off if she was dead.   I took a complaint to the BSA over that which was upheld.   Corkery was forced to broadcast on on air apology and write a formal letter of apology to RR.   I still have a copy of that letter ... written on the shonkiest typewriter she could find c/w numerous spelling mistakes and very bad grammar, it was the perfect faux apology from a nasty piece of work who didn't mean a word of it.

Even our 'nice' Mr Holden doesn't come close to that.

Once Upon A Time.........

The NZBC could be relied upon to be the ultimate exemplar of good English and correct grammar.  There even was a manual for the guidance of the potential illiterates who these days are employed without question, or so it seems.

Have a look at this from the TVNZ  news website:-

News from Q+A

SOME AVIATION HISTORY

I have always been interested in aviation (and golf and history and politics).   Indeed I can, along with every other pilot, recount in boring and exquisite detail every moment of my 'first solo' including the perfect three point landing although, to the more dispassionate observer, it probably resembled something akin to Barnes Wallis' Bouncing bomb first used in Operation Chastise (the Dambusters raid) .... I digress.

For whatever reason no great acknowledgement has ever been given to the Russians for the quite outstanding work they did in pioneering aviation design and practice pre WW1 led by Igor Ivanovich Sikorski (1889-1972).

In 1911 only two years after Bleriot first flew the English Channel and when no known aircraft could lift more than 600kg Sikorski designed the S21 Russky Vitvaz pictured below .....

It was the worlds first four engine passenger airliner and was a decade plus ahead of its time.    It has a crew of three along with an enclosed cabin which could take up to seven passengers.   It first flew on 10 May 1913 and it was quickly established that a person could move around the cabin without affecting aircraft stability.   It had a maxium speed of 90 kph, a range of 170 km and a operational ceiling of 600m.

It was was crushed on 23 June 1913 when hit by an engine that fell off another aircraft on landing. Sikorski decided against repairing it and instead turned his attention to designing the S22 and S23 variants, the Ilya Muromets, which first flew in December 1913 and served both as a passenger and freight aircraft and as a heavy bomber and remained in service until 1922.   The cabin in the Ilya Muromets (passenger aircraft) was insulated and fitted with heating and electric light and incorporated both a bed and a toilet/washroom.

Sikorski later emigrated to the United States where he continued his pioneering work which included designing the rotor configuration used by most helicopters today.     The Sikorski R-4 was the worlds first mass-produced helicopter in 1942.

Arrogant My Arse.

Calling a clear thinking, open, decisive, intelligent man such as John Key, arrogant, merely displays desperation,  helplessness and demonstrates the dearth of original thinking held by an increasingly inept opposition.

Norman, Peters and Little behaved like children at a lolly scramble when they demanded of Speaker Carter the timing of their request for a debate on the SIS report from Ms Gwynn.
Norman at 10 06, Peters at 10 08 and Little at 10 08.5.

Watchers of Parliament were then left watching a clod fight as one after the other they threw mud and failed spectacularly to land a hit.
Norman with hyperbolic faux outrage, Peters with a typically mumbling diatribe that was so humorous when viewed against the multiple shennanigins displayed in his long history of failing to ever reveal his many contretemps,  and then a vein popping angry OTT display by Little in his first opportunity to display fitness as  a potential Prime Minister.

Of course it is so easy to call the PM arrogant, just doing his job will create such opportunity and of course he had more pressing business while the charade unfolded, it was just running the country.

Is it time ti limit the number of questions as a means of terminating the sad inane openings, does whoever "stand by their statements/position and has the minister seen any reports with the bonus of removing the overt politics in questions. say a primary and one or at the most two supplementaries.

As for arrogant,  this government is the most transparent ever and imo Key says far too much, that comes from confidence not arrogance.

ps the most telling moment of Q Time was a clearly incensed Findlayson giving the larger woman cloths horse her beans for her pathetic efforts with Q 10.

The lies we tell ourselves

Stuff reports:

John Key: No dirt has stuck to my office

Or, to put it in more pungent terms, yet again Key declares "Nah, that's not me pissing in your mouth" and his loyal supporters reply "If you say so, John (glug, choke)."

Just to recap:
1.  The report found no proof of collusion between Key's office and the SIS.  And it certainly is possible that Key's staff got Slater to make an OIA request just on the off-chance that Tucker would release "incomplete, inaccurate and misleading" information that made Goff look bad, and that chance just happened to come up.  Feel free to tell yourself that lie if it makes you feel better.

2.  The report found that Hager was absolutely right about Key running a two-tier programme, with him being kept clean while his staff orchestrated a vicious but plausibly-deniable dirty tricks campaign.

3.  Further, it found that the Prime Minister of New Zealand outsourced his vital role of overseeing the state's security apparatus to a National Party political appointee.

4.  Further, it found that Key's dirty-tricks employees have been breaching the Public Records Act by carrying out business affecting ministries using private email, for the express purpose of concealing that business from the public, and that they destroyed those communications to prevent the review being able to inspect them.

If NZ journalists have any competence whatsoever, Key will be roasted over a slow fire for weeks over this.  However, if experience is anything to go by, he'll continue to insist that black is white, a significant proportion of the population will believe him, and eventually the journos will give up in disgust.  We'll see.  The question is, how much do you enjoy having Key piss in your mouth?

Not Guilty!

No surprise to me, one of my favorite Politicians  has been cleared by Justice Lester Chisholm after an inquiry into any involvement in undermining SFO chief Adam Feeley who held his position under her minister of Justice role.

Feeley was not immune from his own stupidity and some bloggers wanted him held to account.

Judith regains her title of Honorable and rightly so,
Now Mr Key, reinstate one of  the people who have given the aura of strong government in your hold on power back into the executive and put the whole attempt to destroy her by Robertson, Schmitz, the Melons and all the other treacherous pricks who seem to have no limits on what is  acceptable in the war that is politics, into perspective.

What Judith has endured in over a year of sustained and totally undeserved attacks on her professionally and personally is indescribably nasty.

That was and still is real "dirty politics".

I Am Confused Again.

Hagar claims justification for publishing emails obtained in extremely dodgy circumstances for profit  and political advantage, as being in "the public interest". There is still no evidence as to who hacked Slater's electronic  systems and removed a bunch of emails. The emails were then selectively edited and published with a serious intent to manipulate our democratic process,

As a senior opposition person Phillip Goff outright lies to the media that he was not briefed on a security matter and a press operative in the Prime Minister's office releases direct evidence to Slater that Mr Goff lied and that is somehow not "in the public interest" as defined by the socialist sycophants.

Now color  me whatever you will, but evidence of a senior Politician publicly lying to paint himself innocent is a greater moment of "public interest" than rather normal interaction between friends in private via email.

Oh and it seems fairly obvious that the very same duplicitous Phillip Goff may be the source of the pre-release 'leaks' from the report of the ministerial inquiry due out later today.

But that is perfectly OK when the socialists do it, I quite forgot myself again.

Message for Nookin

Apologies to commenter "Nookin."  I've been forgetting to check the spam folder this month, and just found in it three comments from you on one of my posts.  I've made them live now, albeit too late to be any use.

There was nothing remotely spam-like about the comments, so I've no idea why Google Blogger decided they were.  Apologies once again, it wasn't deliberate suppression on my part.

Andrew you should have asked me about your shadow portfolio allocations.

I could have told you that: 1. David Cunliffe is despised in the regions so appointing him Regional Development spokesperson is not going to help Labour's cause one little bit. 2. What the hell is this Interfaith Dialogue all about? I sounds like Politically Correct `mumbo jumbo' which will be a complete waste of time. Unless of course you are sending the spokesperson to Northern Island to sort out the `troubles' which still simmer over there.

I Guess That Does Create Interest as Half Arsed Garbage.

On the face of it, Masterton Business owner Lucas's policy around "drive off debts" being docked from wages seems very harsh and probably illegal in the face of existing law.

Perhaps there is much more not revealed?

Knew a young guy who on leaving school did a tech course in basic food prep and eatery hygiene then bought  a bankrupt fast food opportunity (non franchise) and commenced to make his fortune.
Sadly it went south as his old school mates and those of his staff considered it obligatory for John to supply them with free food.
A great young man was forced from his business when cutting his losses was the only option remaining.

So was the Lucas system from day one of employment,
Had certain employees been "unluckier" than others,
Was this policy included in the employment contract.

One commenter elsewhere glibly recounted a slick system of track covering by "till manipulation" and another had a tale of a two trolly scam involving getting a checkout operator to make a product change.

When I go to maccas, the colonel or even my local chippy, they dont even reach for the chip basket until the dosh is in the drawer and the dam thing is shut!

On a management committee facing serious shortfall in apparent takings we installed serious surveillance security and it still took some time to uncover the fraud involving the bastard manager  who had purchased two identical tills that he spent hours at home after work, creating a second set of printouts sufficient to overcome  standard audits.
It was wandering hands at the staff xmas function that gave us the opportunity to dispense with the crafty bastard's assistance and then, under the galling and entirely stupid employment law we had to tread very carefully when a sister Club sought a reference following a job application.

Before the chatterati condemn a person trying to overcome scumbag attitudes, is it too much to hope all, or at least much more, background is discovered and published.

I am not defending the alleged behavior of Lucas and now Pakinsave in docking staff wages but can we please have a lot more facts before the scheduled Lynching.
Due process and all.

ON ANDREW LITTLE

It is far too early and far too easy to write Andrew Little off as a failure in a long line of Labour Party leader failures ... Cunliffe, Shearer, Goff and, before them, Moore, Palmer and Rowling.

There are a number of reasons for this.    First, and perhaps most importantly, it is difficult for for any Government to win a forth term.   The pendulum effect is well in play and that has to be to Labour's advantage.   Second, and this ties in with the first, it is difficult to see Labour going anywhere but up in the polls.    The 25% Labour scored in the last election probably represents their nadir .   The only question is how far up can they go?   35% and they're in with a real chance.

Then, turning to Little himself.   Dour perhaps and beholden to the Unions maybe (but not sure how much a negative that is in the same way you might argue that National is the voice of Federated Farmers), but certainly pragmatic evidenced by his willingness to dump unpopular policies and hints (only hints mind you) that he might be prepared to turn his back on Labour's 'Old Guard' and promote to the fore the likes of Nash and Davis. That of course could turn out to be a double edged sword and he needs to ensure that those left out in the cold don't turn on him and white ant his leadership as happened with his last two predecessors.

Perhaps even more interesting will be to see how he manages Labour's relationship with the Greens.

Yes, Little lost New Plymouth big time in 2011 and bigger time in 2014 but it's now a whole new ball game. Will he be seen as a break from the past and a genuine gamechanger?   The next few months will be interesting. If he can bat through the early overs and is not 'run out' by his own side then I suspect he might turn out to be a formidable opponent to both John Key and National.

Who Cares FFS?

Reports claim Laila Harre has stepped down as a  leader of the IMP.
That is NEWS?
What about the co-leader?
When was the divorce declared final?
Where was Hone?
Has the electoral expense return been filed?

Not quite a party but a vehicle designed purely to attempt to provide a roadblock to the possible extradition of a certain obese male who strategically splashed dubious dough about in the leadup to the Sept General election.

Yes the other half of the imp had existed, albeit as a personality cult that had managed to avoid electoral oblivion through a mix of racist tribalism and a culture of entitlement around a treaty signed over a century and a half ago as a mechanism to pacify tribes with no identity as a nation.

The internet portion of the abortion never really existed, however the money did.
Spurious talk of a "missing million voters", dissaffected youth and a further numberless vote that only needed to be activated amounted to zilch as the net result was to motivate possibly unmoved voters to make the effort and support the current administration.

Is it beyond reason for the MSM, even accepting it is terminal, to actually investigate what was in reality an open audacious attempt to subvert a fragile democratic process for personal gain?

Does any sane person actually give a rats posterior what a duplicitous, manipulative political nonentity does after a total rejection by an electorate.

The Nation, Q & A and now a publicised resignation, I repeat does anybody care?

SARAH PALIN .... DUH!

She may be batting for the right side but really, sometimes you have to wonder. See here for Sarah Palin's response to President Obama's Immigration proposals. Very funny,  especially the bit ......

Let’s commandeer all the cruise ships, all the fishing vessels and all the yachts those fat cat Obama donors own and then let’s pack ‘em full of illegals and send these people on a one-way cruise to Mexico City.     The  long voyage back across the Mexican Ocean should give them plenty of time to think about..."

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr ... and she might have been just a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

SHALLOW AS A BIRD BATH

The quality of media reporting continues to amaze ... or perhaps not.    Take the case of  Muhammad Rizalman bin Ismail who appeared in court today to plead on charges of burglary and assault with intent to rape.

In various reports he is referred to as a "Malaysian Diplomat" and a "Defence Attache".    He was neither.    He was a serving Warrant Officer working in the office of the Malaysian Defence Attache as an administrative assistant.

Rizalman was not a diplomat.  My advice is that he did not hold a Diplomatic (Red) Passport.   He was however afforded the protection set out in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.   But that does not make him a diplomat.    Equally, he was not their Defence Attache.   The Malaysian Defence Attache (DA) is Lieutenant Colonel Shaari bin Baba.

I know 'Diplomat' and 'Defence Attache' makes good copy but is it too much to hope for that the media might indulge in a modicum of research in order to ascertain the facts?     Sadly I suspect the answer is 'yes' given the state of journalism in New Zealand.

Just As I Thought It Would Be

The Commerce Commission has found no fault on the part of Countdown.

The Commerce Commission said that based on the evidence it gathered during a nine-month investigation it "does not believe that Progressive has breached any of the laws it enforces and it will not be taking any action against Progressive".

Nothing could be as stupid as a Labour politician trying to beat up on a supermarket chain for taking effective action to keep prices down for all those useless pricks who vote Labour and Greens.

BATTING FOR THE OTHER SIDE

New Zealand has a rich military history.    But, while we are happy to claim Nancy Wake as one of our own (despite the fact that she left for Australia at a very early age), it appears no-one but no-one wants to acknowledge the fact that one of the greatest traitors of WW2 was New Zealand born.     His treachery far overshadows that of the much better known John Amery who masterminded the 'British Free Corps' or William Joyce (Lord Haw Haw) or even Lance Corporal Roy Courlander, 2 NZEF, who actively recruited POWs into the BFC.

Patrick Stanley Vaughan Heenan was born out of wedlock at Reefton on the West Coast on 29 July 1910.    It is suggested his father was a mining engineer, George Heenan, who played representative cricket for NZL in the 1882/83 season.    Soon after the family moved to Burma where he was baptized Heenan.    Heenan senior died in Burma in 1912 and later the mother took Patrick to England where he was educated at two upper-class schools; Sevenoaks School in Kent where he was a boarder, and then at Cheltenham College in a stream designed to prepare him for a military career.    By all accounts Heenan did not perform well enough to be accepted for officer training.   Instead, he joined a British company with extensive business interests in Asia.

Later he successfully applied to join the Army Supplementary Reserve and in 1935 he was commissioned into the British Army and posted to India where he served with the 16th Punjab Regiment but was later transferred to the Indian Service Corps.   This apparently was a device commonly used to side-line unsatisfactory officers.   In 1938-39 Heenan took six months long leave in Japan.

In 1941 Heenan was sent to Malaya where he served with a Air Liaison Unit  stationed at Alor Star in Kedar State.   It was in this area that most of the RAF, RAAF and RNZAF units were based.    On 8 December the Japanese invaded Malaya.   By 10 December they had destroyed most of the allied aircraft in North Malaya.   Their air raids, which concentrated on the airfields, were assisted/directed by Heenan.   On that day Heenan was caught “almost in the act”.  Among the espionage equipment found in his possession was a morse code transmitter operated by an alphanumeric keyboard similar to a Traeger Transceiver.

Heenan was taken to Singapore where faced a Courts Martial in January 1942.    Such was the 'confusion' with the Japanese beating at the door, he does not appear to have been formally sentenced. He remained in custody and by 13 February (after the Japanese invaded Singapore) Heenan was reportedly taunting his guards ... ‘that he would soon be free and they would be prisoners’.     The British Military Police decided to take matters into their own hands ... they cut cards to decide who would kill him.   He was taken to the dockside when he was killed by a Sergeant with a single shot to the head.   His body was dumped into the harbour.

Fascinating story which needs to be told.    You can't pretend history never happened.

When Did That Happen?

Innocent until proved guilty.

Justice must be seen to be done.

Judged by ones peers.

Evidence to be tested in open court.

Independent Judiciary.

Some of the basic tenets of a system that has served for centuries.

Over recent decades with the advent of "The Family Court", "The Employment Court", "Marae Courts" coupled with a serious degradation of "Court Reporting " and journalism standards, what was accepted as a flawed system that usually delivered, is increasingly appearing as broken.

Sutton was judged by his boss in an eight week inquiry with absolutely zero checks and balances referred to above and now stands guilty in the eyes of many in an outcome that has satisfied very few.

Ms Accuser is nameless and faceless, her motives are secret, her evidence is unchallenged or tested, the charges are largely based on feelings and perceptions, the convicted is now without the job and its income.

The mayor of our largest local authority has admitted having sexual relations with an employee of the entity he heads, including a witnessed coupling on the furniture of the Ngati Whatua room at his main place of work, multiple liaisons with the  lady in work time and using council resources yet  carries on with his arguably ordinary job performance unimpeded.

We are not allowed to know any of the detail of what Sutton has supposedly done, yet the man who has carried so much of the burden of the aftermath of the seismic upheaval that has so damaged the second largest city, is now himself seemingly equally damaged.

When did due process become so altered and pernicious.
I am not judging Mr Sutton but I will always be grateful for his awesome work for his destroyed city.
Thankyou Roger Sutton and your nearest and dearest for your sacrifices.
I am also seriously saddened that justice was denied you in the " Kangaroo Court" that has convicted and punished you.

To those engaging in the Sharia like public stoning of Sutton, you are despicable, if things are half as serious as claimed, make changes, so many of you have the opportunity.

Little By Little

Andrew Little has been anointed as Labour's leader.

I reckon he is the only person who has the capability to reform the party and bring it back to the centre - making it attractive once more to middle New Zealand.

He needs to forget about john Key.  Forget about Parliament and question time.

The first and only priority must be to exert an iron fist of discipline over the idiots in the Labour caucus.  And he has the power to do it.  The power of the unions.  The drongos in the rainbow faction and the huggers of the Greens need to be told in no uncertain terms that if they step put of line they will be deselected.

He needs to  develop policy that will appeal to middle New Zealand and he needs to attack National on policy, not on personality.

I think Little, like Tony Abbot in Australia, is vastly underestimated.  He has an opportunity to prove all the pundits wrong and bring forth a genuine new Labour Party which at last shrugs off the appalling legacy of Helen Clark.

ON THE HUSTINGS - THE LABOUR PARTY LEADERSHIP RACE

Most of us 'normal' people don't get to have a say on who is to be the next Labour Party leader although, such are the rules that govern how they elect 'il Duce', if I had bothered to pony up $10 or whatever I could have been in there boots and all exercising my right albeit as a Hoary Tory or even as a part Tory Hori ....  I digress.

But I find it interesting, as an observer of the body politic, to note how those with a vested interest in the outcome of the contest see things .... some of their comments are both insightful and instructive.

From the Dim-Post ...  If I was a Labour voter I’d worry less about ‘who I’d like to have a beer with’, or which faction they championed, or even whose policies and values I identified closely with, and more with which of them has the qualities to fix the deep, structural problems within Labour and turn it into a modern professional party.

From Tinikori ... Little is the only candidate with experience of running a large and successful voluntary organisation, the EPMU. It’s a no-brainer to ask him to transform a small and unsuccessful voluntary organisation.

From Unaha-Closp ... The party has marginalised the caucus. They’ve split, disunified and weakened the caucus by making leadership dependent on the Left wing factions – the membership and the unions. The caucus should have much more power within the party, because the caucus are representatives of the voters. The voters dwarf the membership, yet they are of same voting weight. It is a ludicrous system designed and implemented to favour the Left.

By Phil on Mahuta ... Also awful on Radio Hauraki breakfast show last week. Yes, it’s a joke radio station hosted by Newsboy and Martin Guptill’s missus, but Mahuta showed absolutely no situational awareness. She didn’t seem to grasp the concept that breakfast radio could be something other than Sean Plunkett asking the serious questions of the day.

From SGH ... No-one involved in the Labour leadership contest or the post-election review is an A player. You think Gould has the foggiest idea how to win an election? What on earth makes him qualified to comment on what Labour needs to do differently?

So what are we to make of all of this.   Mahuta, trading on her name and colour.   Widely seen as Parliament's laziest MP.    In the 'race' because?   Her second preference votes will be crucial and should favor Little.   Little, beholden to the the Unions as their man.   More left than center.  Two time electorate candidate loser.  Robertson, beltway politician and champion of Labour's Rainbow faction.  Like Little, more left than centre.   Party activist favourite.   Parker, architect of Labour's economic agenda with more holes in it than a Swiss cheese.   Supposedly business friendly. Questionable personal ethics.   Caucus favorite.  Candidate for a personality transplant.

And who would I have voted for if I had ponied up the dosh and become one of them?   Why, that nice Mrs King from Rongatai of course.   Since becoming Labour's mouthpiece she has hardly put a foot wrong.   These four leave me cold and, while 2017 will be no walkover, a four term National led government has to be on the cards.

On Tuesday all will be revealed.

It Is The System Dammit.

We have a judicial system with a punishment component that has a "life sentence" effectively 14 years  in custody and then some post custodial constituent recall, to become active on further criminal activity, should the system decide to intervene.

Therefore should a convicted person sentenced to "life" be a model prisoner and earn a right to parole after the minimum as prescribed, served, they will be prepared to reintegrate into society prior to the parole board making a decision to set them free.

Without entering the debate on the rights and wrongs of such a system that is what those working the system have to deal with.

Smith/Traynor has served his "Life" years and is in a situation that leaves the Parole board and corrections with minimal room to prevaricate, they have to let the scroat loose.
With the convictions he had, could the judge not have used Preventative Detention thereby giving the Dept of Justice a means to keep him in jail?

That POS has made things so much worse for all the dumbarses who are facing release whether mandated or as an option.

It appears Smith is a rather different bastard and by an audacious plan,  with assistance and help from others, with or without knowledge of his master plan, he manipulated an agenda designed for persons with a somewhat lower appreciation of how to defeat a system that prepares for reintegration into the real world some years beyond that which they left some time earlier.

Had NZ had a judicial system that included capital punishment this would not have ever happened, but for those who seek a punishment regime that ends short of judicial killing it is difficult to see how reintegration can be managed without allowing opportunity for duplicitous bastards such as Smith to circumvent it.

KUDOS TO THE RUSSELL RSA

Mrs Vet and I spent last night at the Duke of Marborough at Russell ... has the slogan 'Refreshing Rascals and Reprobates since 1827'.   Probably qualify on both counts ... I digress.    If you haven't been there then you should.   5 Star accommodation.     5 Star table (diners kill for their Forrest Mushroom and Matakana Blue Cheese Soup).   5 Star service.   Place was, as always, packed.   Ran into our first female Prime Minister and husband Burton enjoying the hospitality.

Prior to that and leaving Mrs Vet to watch the world go by from our Waterfront Suite I popped over to the Russell RSA which markets itself as the 'best little RSA in NZL'.      President Pedro and his better half Barb are RSA activists in the best possible sense.   I was fascinated to hear what they had organised for Armistice Day.   Just up from the RSA is the Russell Primary School.    The School has a grove of trees planted to acknowledge the sacrifice of every soldier from the district who fell in WW1.   Each tree is named.   Peter and Barb researched the history of each soldier and had made up a set of court mounted replica medals that each soldier would have been entitled to.   On Armistice Day, central to the service of remembrance, a pupil from the school wears the soldiers medals and lays a wreath at the tree that honors his sacrifice.    Great acknowledgement, great gesture.    This is small town New Zealand showing the way.

Well done Peter (Victor 6 Company in Vietnam) and Barb.   Well done the Russell RSA.   Well done Russell.

Aussie Roast Lamb For Christmas????

The older Adolfian daughter visited for a week recently and gasped at the price of meat.

So, Adolf had a look around.

The price of lamb leg roast at Countdown in Auckland is $18.50/kg and the price at Coles in Adelaide is $12/kg.  There's no GST on meat is Australia so the equivalent Countdown price would be $16.09.  Exchange rate cconverts Contdown to $14.63.

Doesn't look so bad now, does it?

Maybe the Mad Butcher won't be rushing across the Tasman for a couple of containers of Aussie lamb for Kiwi Christmas dinners.

ON LVRs

I can understand the need for the imposition of Loan to Value ratios (LVRs) by the Reserve Bank as one of the tools necessary to help curb runaway house prices in Auckland and Christchurch and certainly we never want to go back to the situation that existed in the early to mid 2000s where Banks would lend 110% of valuation on little or no equity.

But perhaps someone could explain to me why the 20% LVR can not be limited to just Auckland and Christchurch purchasers with the rest of the country at say 10%.   There has to be a reason for the 'one glove fits all' approach but, for the life of me, I can't figure it out.    Educate me please.

Retards Know Better?

A company re-thinks its services and decides losing over a million a month on very low demand routes and bails.

That is basic economics numpties.

Now that Hone has been forced to  face the reduction in  the luverly perks,  Kaitaia is now uneconomic, who wudda thunk that.

I live in Akaroa and that is a choice, I have to share the rather ordinary State Highway 75 with increased tradie traffic, vastly increased tourist buses, and a legion of CCC employees doing god only knows and not an airfield in sight either now or in the future.
We are 90 minutes from CHC, it's just not fair and Amy Adams should be doing something about it.

Air NZ loses $50 bucks a passenger on the flying eggbeaters servicing Kaitaia, Westport and Whakatane. They will also be losing dough on other nice to have routes as well.

By road;
Kaitaia is 1.45 to Whangarei.
Whakatane is 1.15 to Tauranga.
Whestport is 1.45 to Hokitika.

The poor wee lambs.

All comparable to Collingwood/ Nelson, Hanmer/ CHC, Te Anau/Invercargill, Wanaka to Queenstown.
And Taumaranui/Taupo, Masterton/Whellington or Palmerston North, Kaikohe/ Whangarei.

Jesus wept. what part of losses do the commentariat miss.

Then there are the retards who want Whestport to go to Nelson, why, well they have no bloody idea,, The bimbo moaning that the Kaitaia people will have to travel to Whangarei over roads that are often flooded.

What part of a company attempting to remain profitable, do these retards not understand.

Plunket claimed because a couple of dozen troughers who probably dont even pay for their tickets are upset, Air NZ is on the skids.

Meanwhile poor buggers on the Wairarapa coast will be rated to subsidise public servants travelling to Downtown Welly from Upper Hutt via a totally uneconomic clapped out train while being paid a  salary over 100k.

I guess the three Mayors will just take ratepayers hard earned and subsidise those who choose to live in the sticks and expect the services to be kept just for them.

Here is a thought Plunket, there were nearly 4 000 000 who didn't bother to caall you but there was the odd smart person who pointed out the facts to you and they just didn't rate.

Forget The Escape,

The Judge got it very wrong in 1996.
Kiddy fiddling, Murder the father of his victim, Kidnap the Mother and the victim to deny any chance of help for the father bleeding out.
Didn't Preventative Detention exist then.
Of course it did but the soft cock Judge wanted to save him.
Why not lock the C*^t up and then work out if there was anything to save.

Why are so many dumbarses making a fuss about his absconding from pre-release 72 hour away from the poky, an entirely  justifiable  program if we are going to let bastards such as Smith/Traynor return to the Community.

Just as that Judge got it wrong in 1996, wait until an equally softcock judge gives a lighter sentence to some equally reprehensible bastard to avoid Garrett's Law, and another tragedy unfolds.

Any offender capable of what Smith/Traynor delivered has lost any chance to ever be free again, and that judge could have arranged that outcome.

No Hope and Short Change

Here's a comment from 'G2' at Pickering Post.

Says it all, really.

Obama's Firsts
Quit trashing Obama's Accomplishments
by COL. ROBERT F. CUNNINGHAM and PATRICK RISHOR, The Gilmer Mirror.
Obama has done more than any other President before him.
Here is an impressive list of his unimpressive accomplishments:
(1) First President to apply for college aid as a foreign student, then deny he was a foreigner.
(2) First President to have a social security number from a state he has never lived in.
(3) First President to preside over a cut to the credit-rating of the United States.
(4) First President to violate the War Powers Act.
(5) First President to be held in contempt of court for illegally obstructing oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
(6) First President to require all Americans to purchase a product from a third party.
(7) First President to spend a trillion dollars on "shovel-ready" jobs when there was no such thing as "shovel-ready" jobs.
(8) First President to abrogate bankruptcy law to turn over control of companies to his union supporters.
(9) First President to by-pass Congress and implement the Dream Act through executive fiat.
(10) First President to order a secret amnesty program that stopped the deportation of illegal immigrants across the U.S., including those with criminal convictions.
(11) First President to demand a company hand-over $20 billion to one of his political appointees.
(12) First President to tell a CEO of a major corporation (Chrysler) to resign.
(13) First President to terminate Americas ability to put a man in space.
(14) First President to cancel the National Day of Prayer and to say that America is no longer a Christian nation.
(15) First President to have a law signed by an auto-pen without being present.
(16) First President to arbitrarily declare an existing law unconstitutional and refuse to enforce it.
(17) First President to threaten insurance companies if they publicly spoke out on the reasons for their rate increases.
(18) First President to tell a major manufacturing company in which state it is allowed to locate a factory.
(19) First President to file lawsuits against the states he swore an oath to protect (AZ, WI, OH, IN).
(20) First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago.
(21) First President to actively try to bankrupt an American industry (coal).
(22) First President to fire an inspector general of AmeriCorps for catching one of his friends in a corruption case.
(23) First President to appoint 45 czars to replace elected officials in his office.
(24) First President to surround himself with radical left wing anarchists.
(25) First President to golf more than 150 separate times in his five years in office.
(26) First President to hide his birth, medical, educational and travel records.
(27) First President to win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING to earn it.
(28) First President to go on multiple "global apology tours" and concurrent "insult our friends" tours.
(29) First President to go on over 17 lavish vacations, in addition to date nights and Wednesday evening White House parties for his friends paid for by the taxpayers.
(30) First President to have personal servants (taxpayer funded) for his wife.
(31) First President to keep a dog trainer on retainer for $102,000 a year at taxpayer expense.
(32) First President to fly in a personal trainer from Chicago at least once a week at taxpayer expense.
(33) First President to repeat the Holy Quran and tell us the early morning call of the Azan (Islamic call to worship) is the most beautiful sound on earth.
(34) First President to side with a foreign nation over one of the American 50 states (Mexico vs Arizona).
(35) First President to tell the military men and women that they should pay for their own private insurance because they "volunteered to go to war and knew the consequences."
(36) Then, he was the First President to tell the members of the military that THEY were UNPATRIOTIC for balking at the last suggestion.
(Thank God he didn't get away with THIS one.)
How has all this 'hope and change' been working out for you?
It's hard to comprehend all this guy has got away with. Any other president would have been impeached by now.
What in God's name is wrong with our government AND OUR PEOPLE that they grant this guy carte blanche? It boggles the mind!

They left out Benghazi and Fast and Furious.

Good Riddance.

While we as a Nation hold to a law that says a Life Sentence does not mean life but whatever the formula  is currently, POS such as Smith/Traynor will eventually be released into our midst.

So long as we allow nonsense around personal privacy to prevail over what was once common sense, very clever and manipulative bastards with time on their hands will take advantage.

While the people who were feeling at risk from the convicted killer and kiddy fiddler when Corrections lost him with no idea of his  location, were suffering additional stress and helplessness, it now seems he was long gone to South America.

Unless those who would rule us see that this imminently avoidable mess as easily fixable, it will happen again.

In the meantime, that the POS is gone and unless he is terminally stupid will never return, leaving our shores while the Parole Board and Corrections are muddling their next move as his release looms as the only option, perhaps his leaving in breach of his temporary release conditions is a bonus.

Of course had he been an actual dog his life would have ended in Wellington 19 years ago on a veterinary table.

FAREWELL TO A SOLDIER

Hawea (Gov to all of us that knew him) Grey passed away unexpectedly at New Plymouth a few days ago.    He was a legend among the Malaysia/Borneo/Vietnam veteran community.    I first got to know Gov when we served together in Uncle Po's Battalion, part of 28 Commonweath Infantry Brigade Group, at Terendak in Malaysia.

Gov came to the Battalion from the Engineers so it was perhaps natural that he was posted to the Assault Pioneer Platoon.    He had an affinity for water and was an innovative exponent of non traditional fishing methods (read that as you will but in the knowledge that Engineers and explosives go hand in hand).    The reality was Gov become an earnest devotee of the 'Big Bang' theory and applied a simple formula never found in any training manual.   In all cases he calculated carefully the amount of explosive required to carry out a demolition and then doubled it achieving some quite spectacular results.    It is a truism that those who served with Gov are more likely than not to be in receipt of a War Disablement Pension by dint of hearing loss.

Gov's time in Malaysia will be remembered for his penchant for BIG cars (although why he needed two is debatable) and his brushes with the Garrison Military Police (mostly Redcaps) through his complete inability to drive them at any speed approaching normal.     He was also a talented guitar player ... chances were if you heard 'Ten Guitars' there was Gov in all his glory holding forth with a beer in one hand, a local (female) in the other and a guitar somewhere in the middle.    But the reality is that he was equally at home at a black tie formal dinner or a meal shared at Kampong or longhouse in Borneo.

Gov was a fierce champion of Maori culture and identity but always in a way that would reach out to Pakeha.     He was at his best recounting Maori myth, lore and legend, particularly that of Tongario, Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Mt Taranaki.     He was, for many years, the Maori Vice President on the Board of the RNZRSA and only stood down less than a month ago.     Above all, his quiet manner belayed a fierce determination to stand up for the things he believed strongly in.

Gov Grey was a soldier; a talented soldier.   He was representative of the best among soldiers,   I will remember him with affection.    Haere atu ra e Hoahoia.   Haere, Haere, Haere atu ra.

More Than A Kernal Of Truth

-

New Zealanders originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters and gatherers.
They lived on animals on the plains during the summer and would then go to the coast and live on fish and mussels in the winter.
The two most important events in all Kiwi history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel.
The wheel was invented to get man to the beer.

These were the foundation of modern Kiwi civilisation and together were the catalyst for the splitting of New Zealanders into two distinct sub-groups:
1. Nationals, and
2. Labour.

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture.
Neither the glass bottle nor aluminium can were invented so while our early Kiwis were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ at night, while they were drinking beer
This was the beginning of what is known as the National movement..

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting, learned to live off the Nationals by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing.
This was the beginning of the Labour movement.
Some of these Labour men eventually evolved into women. They became known as pooftas.

Some noteworthy Labour achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that the Nationals provided.
Modern Labourites and Union leaders drink imported beer and they like their beef well done.
Sushi, tofu and French food are standard Labour fare.

Another interesting, evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men.
Most social workers, government workers – local and national, personal injury lawyers, journalists (especially at The DomPost), TVNZ staff, and group therapists are Labourites.

Nationals drink domestic beer, mostly Steinlager or Speights.
They eat red meat (rare), and still provide for their women.
Nationals are police officers, engineers, corporate executives, athletes, members of the military, airline pilots, business owners, farmers, Doctors and Nurses and generally anyone who works productively.
Nationals who own companies, hire other Nationals who want to work for a living.

Labourites produce little or nothing.
They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production.
That is why most of the Labourites created the business of trying to get more for nothing - and usually plead for government money to fund their unproductive, parasitical activities.

Here ends today's lesson in New Zealand’s history.

It should be noted that a Labourite may have a momentary urge to angrily respond to the above before forwarding it.
A National will simply laugh, and be so convinced of the absolute truth of history, that it will be forwarded immediately to other true believers and to more Labourites - just to piss them off

And there you have it.

THIS FOR JAMIE

Our 'friend' has been banging on for a little while now on ISIS and ISIL (threadjacking notwithstanding) so Jamie, here's your chance to hold forth (or fifth) but, first of all, could I commend to you all the article by John Armstrong in today's Herald where he blasts the Greens for their utter failure  to understand how to respond intelligently to the issue.      You can read his opinion piece here.     The final sentence is instructive .... "And they have been taught a lesson that being in Opposition is not solely a matter of opposition for opposition's sake".

Now to Jamie and a word to the wise old son.     Over the top rhetoric does nothing to advance your cause (if in fact you have a cause).   In the lead up to last Wednesday you were rabbiting on about how NZL was going to war. However, when push came to shove, it appears the Government is focusing on the provision of a training team to help develop Iraqi military capability coupled with additional resources to the anti-piracy multi national force operating in and around Somalia in order to free up other capability already there for possible deployment against ISIS/ISIL.

And now you are postulating that this modest and balanced response could result in service families being targeted by Islamic fundamentalist extremists.    My response.    Possibly so, there are home grown extremists out there.    But were we to use that as the excuse not to become involved then we are surrendering to the threat of terrorism.     I for one refuse to go down that path.    And I say that as the father-in-law of a senior NZDF officer intimately involved in planning for this operation.    And I say that as the father of a son who has just completed a distinguished career in the British Army where he served in Northern Ireland, the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq where he was decorated by the Americans.    Real soldiers don't surrender to the threat of terriorism.

All war is shitty and certainly war is not black and white.   Bad things happen.   Soldiers accept that.   It goes with the territory.   But for good men to stand back and do nothing in the face of evil and you are surrendering to the forces of darkness.    That is not our way ... and we don't, as some would have it, live in a benign strategic environment.

Trifling Complaints

The BSA has rejected a bunch of trifling complaints about National Party election campaign advertisements.

Adolf wonders whether any complaints were lodged about the appalling 'Fuck John Key' chants.

The complainants need to be reminded the election is over and they lost - big time.

Your compulsory contribution to John Key's political legacy

This came out days ago, which makes it a matter of historical interest in blogging terms, but what the hell - I didn't get the chance until now.

If you've lived here a while, you'll be familiar with NZ's citizens-initiated-referenda tragicomedy: every now and then, some lobby group comes up with an ambiguous, opaque or self-answering question and gets enough of their fellow citizens to sign a petition so that the government is obliged to ask it of all registered voters, at taxpayers' expense.  Even if an unambiguous intent can be inferred from voter responses to these referenda questions, the government is under no obligation to act on the results, and generally doesn't.

So, most of the expensive citizens-initiated referenda for which we're asked to submit answers are at face-palm levels of badly-written and will have a nett zero effect on government policy, which makes the whole thing an embarrassing farce.  That said, at least it's democracy in action - if enough of our peers have signed a petition demanding that a particular question be put to voters, we really have to just suck it up, hand over the dosh and let due process run its course.

Corporate weasels, of course, tend to see democracy and due process as being only useful to the extent they support your strategic plan - if they don't they can get fucked, but if your strategic goals would benefit from being dressed in the accoutrements of democracy and due process for propaganda purposes, they're wheeled out.

Cue John Key, the corporate weasel currently running the country.  An actual citizens-initiated referendum last year that went against his strategic plan was denounced as an "utter waste of money", said money amounting to $9 million.  The weasel in question now imposes on us two personally-initiated referenda that will apparently cost $25 million, and has the bare-faced cheek to call it "the price of democracy."  If you're bristling at the notion that Key is bullshitting that this is "democracy", consider that fact: the individual in power has decided that two referenda will be held at the cost of $25 million, not because a citizens' petition has demanded it, but because he personally has the power to order it done.  He commands, and it is so.  That, apparently, is "democracy" as seen from the perspective of a corporate weasel.

Ask yourself for a moment why we're being ordered to hand over this $25 million.  No-one has asked for a referendum on the flag, but we have a man in charge who seriously could do with a political legacy, his tenure otherwise having redefined the word "unremarkable."  That's the "price of democracy," I guess...

An Unexpected Priviledge

Bev and Neville Carter and the world famous in Southbridge, Goal Posts

At present swmbo and moi are on a six day safari around Selwyn County to end with two nights at Hororata where we will attend the annual Highland Games on Saturday.

Our tour guide and master planner Ken set up Tuesday night stop over at the Southbridge Rugby grounds.

The man who opened the Bar for Happy hour and then entertained the assembled for over an hour was Dans Dad who in the much simpler times of a few decades ago was himself an accomplished 1st five for Southbridge, Ellesmere and Canterbury Country and he was such a great mine of information and entertainment, much of which I cannot and have no wish to repeat here.
As an insight to just what a top sportsman endures as part of the big game c2014 it was priceless.

Pictured above with the now famous Goalposts on the adjacent section in Southbridge, two of the finest people you could meet in life.

Thankyou Neville for a wonderful time of history, country pride, and some wonderful background to where Dan the Man came from.

Iwi Settlements

There must be rich pickings fo a budding post graduate student in the post settlement history of respective Iwi.

Adolf would like to see a serious analysis of each setlement, outlining the following:-
  • Date and $$ amount.
  • Manner in which funds are held.
  • Names of previous and current trustees/managers.
  • Provisions for annual audit.
  • Estimated current value.
  • Amount of dividends distributed to registered Iwi members.
  • Manner in which annual profits are distributed (or not distributed.)
  • and anything else which may seem relevant.

It's not the sort of thing I might expect to be promoted by The University of Waikato.

Gee That Is Relevant, NOT

Under a headline "MP Shot Brother" The good old Dom Post drags up a story from c1980 about a teenager committing a basic error in firearm safety  by climbing over a gate with a loaded weapon.
A slip, the shotgun discharges and the teenagers brother is shot in the calf.

A very basic and stupid error that all too often ends in a fatality, however this one ended with a saved lower leg and serious scarring.

But that was not the point, this is all about a National MP "shooting his brother", add in a reference to attending what some tall poppy choppers see as an "elite school" as in Wanganui Collegiate, some outstanding military and sporting achievements and it becomes a regurgitated hit job based on a stupid error over 35 years ago by a teenager who was extremely careless and as it turned out very lucky.

Gee that is concentrating on the important news eh.
Wait until Andrew Bayley rises to a more prominent role following his election to the seat of Hunua and the dopey thicko masquerading as a journalist will be able to do it all again.

Cant you just see the headline "New Minister, a gunman who failed to kill".

Didn't work then, wont work now.

God there are some educated thickos out there in never never land.

Sir Roger Douglas did what needed to be done to turn the ship away from the rocks.
He was so successful that the cloth cap, rainbow, feminazi party saw their duty to not just disown him while changing absolutely zero of his bold moves but to continue digging his grave thirty years later and last I heard he was still nowhere near needing it.

Ruth Richardson set out to wean some of the more damaged off welfare only to be cut off at the Knees by here own party.

Now successive brain damaged souls decline to work out that hard  left does not cut the mustard c2014.
Even more alarming there are an equal number of the hard right who wish John Key to be gone.

Politics is almost always the control of the center and to think the treasury benches will come to a philosophy that embraces either of the extremes is just bloody dreaming and with MMP it is even more unlikely.

Post WW2 while the Iron Curtain was being strengthened and many  Nations were wrestling with hard left and communist parties, union muscle was a major weapon in the hands of the street troops.
1949  New Zealand under Holland and the National party won  in 1949 46 seats to Labour 34, sounds safe but it was a lot closer than that with the Popular vote only 50 000 out of a million plus votes.
The percentages were 52 Nat and 47 Lab
Two years later after Holland had taken the unions head on he only increased the 49 result to 50  to 30 in seats and the popular vote increased to a 70 000 lead and what was called a landslide only ended with 54% to 46%.
A MMP result on those figures would have had Labour only 6 seats behind.

In 1951 Holland and the Nats had Labour on the ropes and apart from a three year hiatus with Walter Nash governed from 1949 until 1972 when Kirk won in another Landslide 55 seats to 32 but with only 48% of the popular vote.

To retain the treasury benches, MMP makes the wishes of the shills for the extremes of the spectrum so bloody inane.
There is much about the current PM's efforts I have considerable angst with but he is smart enough to see that is where the keys to the 'beemers' are kept and my politics would result in the hydra being handed the keys to that cupboard.

MMP was inflicted on West Germany by the victors to prevent a government with a very strong mandate being elected and coalition is the result with all the handbrake effects we see c2014.
In the last months of the 50th parliament after Banks was forced from office, the recently passed tinkering with workplace rules had to be shelved when "Possumhead" lost his bottle.
The useless little bastard found it again last week when it didn't matter.

That is the reality folks, progress will be very slow, how much more evidence is needed for proof.
Steffan Browning would have barely retained his deposit in 1951 now the bastard is sitting there on our coin for the next three years.

DUMBER THAN A SACKFUL OF HAMMERS

The TNVZ report here that some 'Halloweeners' were dressing up in ISIS costumers almost beggars belief.    It is the ultimate in stupidity and trivializes what ranks with Ebola as one of the most significant threats facing the world today.

Nah it's not fun; nah it's not cool; yes it's bad taste gone ballistic and yes, it's dumber than a sackful of hammers.     If someone turned up at our door dressed like that it might well be a case of 'off with their heads'.

WELL DONE THE ANZACs

Have just finished watching the service in Albany WA to commemorate 100 years since the 30,000 original ANZACs set sail on their way to the Middle East.    By any measure the service was conducted with panache and style.    The speeches by Prime Ministers Abbott and Key set the tone for the whole occasion.    Half way through I was phoned by a hard-bitten 'Sand Groper' mate of mine to say that he had been moved to tears.   Big call from Ken who doesn't 'cry' easily.

Earlier this year and in an ill-considered piece Colin James opined that, as far as Australians were concerned, the NZ bit in ANZAC was an irritant to be paid lip service to.    If James had bothered to watch today's proceedings I would expect a mea culpa sorry .... but I'm not holding my breath.

Superb weather, great occasion .... Lest we forget.
