"About 4000 households face rates increases of 40 per cent or more next year under a "cold turkey" proposal causing deep divisions among city councillors."

Isn't it time for a CIR from Auckland City rate payers who face rate increases of FORTY PERCENT asking the gummint to sack the mayor and the council and appoint in its place a commissioner who can actually rn its business properly.

Someone might like to dig up the figures for residential building consents since Lyen Brown took the helm.

Why cant rates rises be set in law to be no more than annual inflation?
And all borrowing and fees set by council must be approved by the Local Government Minister after appropriate business cases have been established.
