GUTLESS GREENS

So, Norman's response to the Canadian killings is to caution against any involvement in the international campaign against Islamic terrioroism least we.become a target.   Well news for Norman, we are, like it or not, we and his ostrich like approach matters nowt to the crazies out there.

Norman being Norman and I suspect if he had been around on 3.September 1939 he would have argued that all we needed to put Hitler back in his box was to show him some respect.

As for the Gucci Sheila.  To paraphrase one of her more 'enlightened' remarks ..... friggin useless.

Yep, now is the time to be reckless! No time to think about consequences or consider complexities or the future, go get the muzzies! Grrrr!!! Worked out well in nam didn't it old fella?

According to 3News, what Norman actually said is that participation in another war in Iraq would "increase the risk to the country" and be "unlikely to produce any good outcomes. Both of those strike me as accurate assessments. They're certainly more realistic than John Key's views on both the first Iraq war and this proposed one.

Holden ... If the best you can do is to invoke ageism then sobeit and if you think sticking your head in the sand offers protection against the crazies then more fool you.

The paradym has changed and clearly you haven't figured that out.

A broken clock can be right twice in a day. As much as I despise the Dr Norman and his 'reds' I have to agree with their security assessment.

Just remember...

It ain't the old geezers who get their bollocks blown off, it's the young bucks who kill and be killed.
And we've been out in the desert for how long now?
Doing the same thing over and over putting up with old chicken-hawks calling the shots and talking tough, easy to do when it ain't your ass on the line.

Sun Tzu says KEEP THE SAS HOME!!!

When you engage in actual fighting, if victory is long in coming, then men's weapons will grow dull and their ardor will be damped. If you lay siege to a town, you will exhaust your strength.

Again, if the campaign is protracted, the resources of the State will not be equal to the strain.

Now, when your weapons are dulled, your ardor damped, your strength exhausted and your treasure spent, other chieftains will spring up to take advantage of your extremity. Then no man, however wise, will be able to avert the consequences that must ensue.

THEY ARE OUR BEST!!!
DO NOT WASTE THEM IN A POINTLESS BATTLE!!!
I SAY AGAIN DO NOT!!!

Sittin' restless under the moonlight
I know I'm gettin' ready to kill
They say we're goin' in with the daylight
Ma I don't want to but I will

'Cause I don't know the man that kills me
And I don't know these men I kill
I pray to God for my salvation
Wash away the blood I spilled
I try not to think about my family
'Cause it's a little too much to take
Out here I got me and I got my buddy
We can't afford even one mistake
Sorry about writin' on dirty cardboard
It's the only paper that I could find
Tell everyone I got their letters
Tell everyone I'm doin' fine

Late at night when I can dream, Ma
I think about life back in the world
I miss you and Dad, I miss sister Sarah
I miss my wife and my baby girl
Pray for me, pray for my soul, Ma
Pray for me and all my sins
They say that I got a job to do now
And I'll be back when it finally ends
Do you think I should be fighting?
Ma are you proud, are you ashamed
Really I'm tryin' to do the right thing
I hope my government can say the same

'Cause I won't know the man that kills me
And I don't know these men I kill
We all wind up on the same side
'Cause ain't none of us doin' God's will

Hit them with a little ghetto gospel

[Chorus - Elton John:]
Those who wish to follow me (my ghetto gospel)
I welcome with my hands
And the red sun sinks at last into the hills of gold
And peace to this young warrior without the sound of guns

[2Pac]
If I could recollect before my hood days
I'd sit and reminisce, thinking of bliss of the good days
I stop and stare at the younger, my heart goes to 'em
They tested, it was stress that they under
And nowadays things changed
Everyone's ashamed to the youth cause the truth looks strange
And for me it's reversed, we left them a world that's cursed, and it hurts
'cause any day they'll push the button
and you all condemned like Malcolm X and Bobby Hutton, died for nothing
Don't them let me get teary, the world looks dreary
but when you wipe your eyes, see it clearly
there's no need for you to fear me
if you take your time to hear me, maybe you can learn to cheer me
it ain't about black or white, cause we're human
I hope we see the light before its ruined
my ghetto gospel

[Chorus - Elton John]

Tell me do you see that old lady ain't it sad
Living out a bag, but she's glad for the little things she has
And over there there's a lady, crack got her crazy
Guess she's given birth to a baby
I don't trip and let it fade me, from outta the frying pan
We jump into another form of slavery
Even now I get discouraged
Wonder if they take it all back while I still keep the courage
I refuse to be a role model
I set goals, take control, drink out my own bottles
I make mistakes, I learn from everyone
And when it's said and done
I bet this Brother be a better one
If I upset you, don't stress
Never forget, that God hasn't finished with me yet
I feel his hand on my brain
When I write rhymes, I go blind, and let the lord do his thang
But am I less holy
'cause I choose to puff a blunt and drink a beer with my homies
Before we find world peace
We gotta find peace and end the war on the streets
My ghetto gospel

[Chorus - Elton John]

[2Pac]
Lord can you hear me speak?
To pay the price of being hell bound...

Respect Brotha.

I am also a Returned Serviceman although my service is not in your league.
RF,04-08 including service in the middle-east, no combat.

I am no expert!
However I feel compelled to speak up and voice my concerns.

Victory in the middle-east has eluded us for well over a decade now.
To be honest, it's gone from bad, to worse, to the apocalypse now.

And...

Given our current debt situation NZ Debt Level $ 90,905,463,586

And...

With the current generation of corrupt chicken-hawk cardboard politicians who have never served, my assessment is that the trend will continue to worsen.

Perhaps...

A man of your experience could be able to explain to this young buck how victory is to be achieved given the current SNAFU.

Break it down for me because I'm struggling to see it...

The Veteran said...

Jamie ... thank you for your service. You posed the question 'how do you achieve victory' ... Good question perhaps better phased as 'how do you measure victory'.

Well, clearly not in the sense of WW1 (if in fact that were a victory) or WW2 or Malaya or Borneo simply because the whole dynamic has changed with ISIL and Islamic terrorism.

It's here right now and all around us and it's only a matter of when (not if) NZL is caught up in it. So, do we stand back and do nothing and pretend it doesn't exist (as Norman would have it) or do we join the community of nations that have the balls to recognize reality and confront the issue head on.

I can agree the second option is to some extent a journey into the unknown. Not sure anyone can predict the end game but the 'fight' will be measured in years not months and the outcome is uncertain.

Taken in isolation that would suggest we should seek to isolate ourselves and stand aloof from the conflict. But that ignores the fact that it's already here ... we have the radical mosque in Auckland; we have home grown jihadists fighting in Syria. Yesterday Ottawa, tomorrow Wellington or Christchurch or Paihia.

It's not going to be an easy journey but it's a journey that needs to be undertaken. Russell's solution of standing around, holding hands and singing Kumbayah may appeal to some but not to me.

President HUSSEIN OBAMA.

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”

I agree and refer to my original post
"As much as I despise the Dr Norman and his 'reds' I have to agree with their security assessment."

I think Winston Peters is on the right path, and would add it might be wise for the politicians to arm themselves!

Bit of DIY if ya know what I mean...

On a personal note, I thank you and all your Brothas for your service...
Some might forget the hell your crew went through...

Jamie ... thank you for your comments. Our/any response needs to be deliberate and measured. Islamic terrorists will have achieved their aim if they force a nation into panicked measures.

Peters was, I suggest, headline grabbing and playing to his ADD. You cannot have armed police guarding every 'sort' target in NZL. That's simply not practical.

But I support completely the provision of additional resources for the GCSB and the SIS to enable them to more effectively carry out their work ... a stance opposed in varying degrees by Labour, the Greens and Winston First.

The Veteran said...

Jamie ... interesting conversation. The GCSB/SIS must be in the forefront of any fight against internal threats. That's what they're mandated to do and the controls in place to protect 'normal' citizenry are robust no matter what those with a vested interest in hobbling them may claim.

If it's not the GCSB and/or the SIS then who else.

You've lost me re Obama. I think history will judge him a failure both domestically and internationally.

Sun Tzu has a whole chapter devoted to the correct use of spy networks. I won't bore you with the lot...

"Hostile armies may face each other for years, striving for the victory which is decided in a single day. This being so, to remain in ignorance of the enemy's condition simply because one grudges the outlay of a hundred ounces of silver in honors and emoluments, is the height of inhumanity."
