Good On You Judith Collins.

The minister all the socialists have been stoning for weeks over a beltway issue around a trip to China last October has again aroused passion amongst those who see big government as the answer to all the ills of society.

In an entirely sensible response to another report that is in fact another expensive waste of resources, she has rejected a call from Wowsers Inc to raise the cost of a drink for the masses, in an impotent attempt to address the problem resulting from one of societies most extravagant abuses of personal responsibility called "binge drinking".

Now I am unaware of a single incident involving anyone who has been found to be grossly intoxicated, having alcohol forced down their throat. I have at times overindulged but was never aware of anyone else coercing me, I drank, I became intoxicated and it was all my own doing.
I have however witnessed many idiots drinking to excess of their own free will including moi.

Yes there is a degree of addiction around alcohol consumption but in my seventy years it is indulgence and poor management of the personal life and behavior that produces a vomiting, abusive, noisy, foul mouthed bore from overindulgence in alcohol consumption.

Until we revisit the punishment of drunks with judicial sanction as opposed to punishing licensees and managers of sales outlets on the simple premise they are in situ and make an easy target, efforts such as raising the retail price are stupid and doomed to fail.
Yes massive increases in excise on tobacco products has reduced smoking  but has it had any measurable effect on those who still wish to indulge.
I don't think so.

Why is the right wing answer to everything "lock em up"? Do you own shares in Serco, or are you just lacking in imagination and brain cells?

I guess for you Backward the Confuser, prosecuting a licencee and ignoring the drunks is pragmatic policy in a vote retention scheme for the socialist cause.

Neither my investment portfolio nor my mental capacity are any of your fucking business.

Your stalking keeps our traffic count up and that makes my day.

Yep. That's why smoking rates have reduced (duh).

Well, the licensees and the booze companies make money off of people drinking, the more the drink the better. The rest of us pay the costs. In right-wing looney land that's just fine. The rest of us would like them to pay for the damage they inflict, in the way drug-dealers should. It's not rocket-science, Einstein.

Meanwhile in your idyllic socialist paradise, Backward, the fact that a significant incidence of abuse of booze is sponsored or otherwise provided at no charge to the legless or stolen/pilfered/misappropriated.
Therefore raising the price to responsible drinkers will have minimal effect on the worst abusers.
Look at the terrible figures for recidivist Drink drivers.

Btw your claim that drug dealers might pay for damage to society is pretty lame even by your standards, pun intended.

Good to see you're being consistent, having been such a staunch supporter of Philip Field when he was having problems with a beltway issue around some tiling he had done...

Until we revisit the punishment of drunks with judicial sanction...

What? Being drunk should be an offence now? Or were you going for making it a crime?

Drugs are illegal supposedly because of the damage they cause to individuals and society. However, for some reason booze is legal, so let the costs sit where they should, ie with those who profit from its consumption. Too difficult for you to grasp Gravetodger?
