MEDIA FAILURE OR THICK PROTESTERS.

After a seven fatal shark attacks on WA beaches in three years, the latest last November, Colin Barnett's Liberal Party state government, has introduced drum lines to trap and kill potential killer sharks to reduce the threat.

Entirely predictable as had the State administration done nothing then they would be labeled uncaring, and anti surf swimming.

However thanks to a frenzy whipped up on Social Media thousands of Aussies have been out protesting the unwarranted attack on sharks in their sea environment.
The pic above is part of a crowd on Manly beach North of Sydney Heads.

Well they haven't got the problem that Barnett's mob have,  as the despised drum lines plus shark nets have been in use by NSW and Queensland state Govts for years. the other massive hypocrisy is that the nets, that are not infallible, seriously endanger other non target species including turtles, dolphins, dudongs.

I am guessing here but I suspect the families of the seven dead in WA are not opposed to measures to kill sharks, hell among all the clamour the media report on recovering a body as part of closure in the grief process, one of the seven dead in WA had only remnants of his swimming trunks recovered.

I am not and never have been a surf dude, lack of shade, sand, and a walk to access the pleasure often over trump desire, that said however, I see the massive attraction for surfing that exists for  the many who invade the territory of the sharks in pursuit of it.

A Southlander was attacked last week and had to use his knife to ward the beast off, made it to shore, stitched up his wound with gear from his Pighunting first aid kit and retired to a local tavern for light refreshments where he was bandaged to prevent his blood messing up their floor. That is the stuff of legends but being mauled to death by a shark is right up there for unpleasant ways out of here IMO.

I accept sharks have rights and the ghastly practice of finning live sharks and leaving their disabled carcass to sink and die is abhorrent but citizens being killed is  a greater political negative to most who see humans as somewhere above sharks on a value scale and I wonder how many of those moved to protest share my ambivalent attitude to sea swimming
Doing nothing is not an option for the WA State Govt so perhaps the thousands of Qlanders and NSW people who actually enjoy the protected beaches  they have, should first protest the measures in use for years at your popular beaches before you give Barnett's mob grief.

Put briefly, your view is that it's fine to kill even more of what are rapidly becoming threatened species, on the basis that politicians need to be seen to be doing something and the families of people killed by sharks will probably want some vicarious revenge against sharks in general. That's not exactly compelling reasoning.

Seven in three years? And yet you defend your right to get pissed and drive. This kills 100 a year in NZ alone. Why are right wingers so fucking stupid?

Because, EtC, they need to balance the left wingers.

No Milt I abhor 'Finning' and that appears to be a major threat to large whites and Tiger sharks.
Hypocrisy of standing around on a beach with a history of substantial shark protection on the NSW coast while protesting what Barnett's government has instituted on beaches near to major population centers in WA is somehow questionable imo .

As for the totally insane attempt of confuser to conflate DD, how many souls has socialism killed historically currently and in the future pursueing idiotic idealogical policy.
A classic current one would be fuel substitution from crops that previously were available to third world countries suffering famine.

Fucking stupidity is not confined to "right wingers", a truth that you confuser, represent constantly.

Does biofuels really take food out of peoples mouths?

"The world produces enough food to feed everyone. World agriculture produces 17 percent more calories per person today than it did 30 years ago, despite a 70 percent population increase. This is enough to provide everyone in the world with at least 2,720 kilocalories (kcal) per person per day ...."

Watcher, you fool, the calories are produced on farms and then sold to biofuel companies, leaving insufficient to feed the world's people.

If you are going to bullshit, do try and introduce some quality.

George Bush made some pretty poor decisions regarding biofuel production, that's true. However, contrary to Adolf's ignorant rants. second generation biofuels are based on algae and biomass and do not come with the drawbacks that the ones Bush subsidised did.

Anyway, for some reason, GD introduced that as a distraction. I suspect because he realises he's lost the actual argument about the killing of endangered species because they scare him.

Two questions and an explanation confuser.

How many people should die on WA beaches before you consider Barnett's Government should respond.

Do you have any idea how many tonnes of corn that were grown in the US under subsidy and therefore available as food aid have now been redirected to the awesomely inefficient bio fuel production, again under stupid subsidies.

Now the explanation, my introduction of the corn issues was as an example of socialistic "fucking stupidity" as a comparison to your equally stupid statement that all right wing people are stupid in your equally stupid response to my post, stupid.

Eddie The Con, did you and watcher go to the same School For Bullshitters?

Feom Wikipedia = notice the tense, 'are' NOT 'were.'

Ethanol fuel is the most common biofuel worldwide, particularly in Brazil. Alcohol fuels are produced by fermentation of sugars derived from wheat, corn, sugar beets, sugar cane, molasses and any sugar or starch......

Oh dear. Poor GD is sadly out of his depth. He's seriously suggesting "if it (in this case killing endangered species that scare him) saves one life it's worth it" and "won't somebody thing about the children" then. He obviously wants to ban cars too.

Adolf, so he fuck what? As I say, mistakes were made, mostly by Bush. Not many people starving to death in Brazil, so you have no point.
