Left wing journalists running distractions for Mayor Brown

What is enlightening watching the Len Brown saga unfold is the sheer audacity of the left wing media and their ability to manipulate the story to suit their mate, Len Brown.

I'll say at the outset that I think Brown can ride this out, if there are no other mistresses with tawdry affidavits splattered across the internet.  He can take a couple of months off with his family and let Penny Hulse run things.  By that time its Christmas and then there's a further six weeks, or so, with no council business.  By February 2014 people will still remember, but it is less relevant.  I don't think it's an "offence" to resign over, but it comes pretty close.  If there is abuse of council funds, or other women, then he's toast.

He should also be congratulated for fronting up and admitting it at the first opportunity, and then going on TV exposing himself to ridicule.  That cannot have been easy, despite John Campbell's best efforts to go as easy as he could on him.

But Len Brown is about the only one who has taken some personal responsibility.  His left wing media mates have been nothing short of a disgrace.

When you consider Fran O'Sullivan's remarkably mature and sensible article on the matter, and when one also considers the legal plight of Jock Anderson (who was sacked from the NBR for writing a positive article on Brown and why he should stay in the job!) the drivel from Brian Rudman and Bernard Orsman is disgraceful.  And that's being polite.  O'Sullivan and Anderson can hardly be considered as being from the left, yet they showed their professionalism while Rudman and Orsman showed their partisan hackery substitited for journalism.

It simply isn't relevant whether Palino knew, or didn't know.  It isn't relevant he met her after the election.  It isn't relevant whether John Slater knew, or didn't know.  It isn't relevant whether Bevan Chuang was also having it off with the Italian Stallion, Luigi.  It isn't relevant whether it was a "honeytrap".  It isn't relevant whether the VRWC was involved.

It is relevant that the Mayor of our "Supercity" had a mistress that he helped get a council job for!  Who broke the story, or what others from the Right knew, and when they knew it, is completely irrelevant.

The left wing media, via its lead advocates Rudman and Orsman, are showing themselves up for what they really are: People who simply cannot accept that people should be personally responsible for their actions, unless of course it's Richard Worth or John Banks.

With these two, if a leftie is getting stick it's always someone else's fault.

I'm surprised the government hasn't been blamed for Mayor Brown's plight.

Sage comment unless of course you happen to be an apologist for Messrs Rudman and Orsman.

Len Brown will tough this out and assume the mantle of martyr bestowed upon him by the 'left' because of course it wasn't his fault at all but a honey trap by the GRWC and poor Mr Brown was the victim distracted by the pressure of work .... and pigs fly.

I fail to see how it could be a honey trap for the following reasons.

1. The length of time the affair ran.
2. From what I have read in various publications Brown made all of the early approaches.

The other thing that could bring Brown down is if the person/people who sent the threatening texts are uncovered as being close Brown connections.

pdm ... the logic of your post will be entirely lost on the Rudmans and Orsmans of this world.

If irrelevant crap like which consenting adults Len Brown has exchanged bodily fluids with is "news," why not the irrelevant crap you list here? Anyway, do you really think messrs Wewege, Cook and Slater pressuring this woman into dishing embarrassing dirt on Brown isn't a story, given the links to Palino's electoral team? The news media loves stories about political figures' unethical behaviour.

Milt - as I understand it Whale Oil (Cameron Slater) had no personal connection at all with the Palino team.

Blackmail is a serious story so the media is right to pursue it. Wewege or whatever his name is should be interviewed by the police

His father was running Palino's team.

That doesn't mean there was discussion on this - in fact both are adamant there was not.

Have you read his latest post?

Red Len Brown took free hotel rooms from Sky City & didn't declare them.

That's actual corruption.

Go to Jail.

Give it time, and it will be alleged that John Key planned it all from his mansion in Hawaii

I'm picturing a journalist trying to tell their editor "Well, Slater's father was running Palino's campaign and Wewege was working on the campaign, but really you'd have to say there's no connection with Palino's campaign." Wouldn't be working as a journalist much longer, I expect

Subliminally John Key is to blame for this Lyin Len saga.
I am sure the Ambrose UTU followers of which there are many still in the media will do whatever they can to associate him to this, aided by Cunliffe and little fat Greenie - where is her boss - he seems to have been absent for some time now. Perhaps to much weed.

The left wing journalists, and the bloggers on sites such as the Standard all take one thing as an item of faith. Because someone involved in Palino's campaign knew about this affair it is therefore an established fact that Palino knew and that he then organised a smear campaign against Brown.
There were probably hundreds of people involved in the campaign but Palino was assumed to know everything that any one of them knew.
My memory goes back to the Green Party escapades during the 2011 election. Russel Norman's PA and her partner were involved in defacing National Party billboards, hundreds of billboards. Norman claimed that he knew absolutely nothing about it. He did, under pressure, suspend her from working in Parlaiament until after the election but she remained on full pay and was reinstated the day after the election.
We are supposed to believe apparently that Palino knew all, and that Norman remained in a state of blissful ignorance. Can't have anyone possibly assuming that Red Russ could possibly be involved in graffiti posting and the destruction of other parties material cam we.
With Palino we must take their word for it that he is evil personified.

He's South African.

And did you hear Susan Wood on Q+A this morning framing the Brown saga with "It's a right-wing conspiracy?"

That was such a typical leftist 'look over there' ploy to divert attention away from the fact that Brown did it; Brown was the cheating scumbag and no one else.
