So easy to bag the Olympics.

So very much harder to bag a gold.

With Badminton teams sent home for what many see as "tactics",
A Chinese swimmer who appears to have made a much improved unforseen effort to win attracting allegations of drug use,
Aussie rower in trouble with plod,
Endless scenes of many empty seats that leave fans who have spent their last dollar to attend as their spawn compete, totally bewildered,
Officials deficiencies exposed as with Nicholsons dressage delay,
Endless debates and video review of Fencing action. (remove the blunt tips and the electronic vests)
Including what is nothing more than a Beach party activity as a "sport".
Seemingly unfair rules that decline entry and participation to maybe the clear second best in the world  by allowing only one entry from a country (Wardell and Drysdale Beijing) when three medals are at stake.
This mornings tale that reflects on the degree of "total focus" of the state sponsored and tightly controlled preparations that led to a Diver having the death of her Grandparents and the ongoing battle with cancer of her mother with-held for years. (clearly she didn't write that often).
Our nearest neighbor's misery as their multi million dollar gold medal value/cost increasing exponentially with the accompanying increasingly vicious repercussions.
Clear manipulation of established international rules for sports so as to fit with the TV and Olympic template.

Then two pretty normal young men from the bottom of the world literally explode to a hard earned well deserved place in Olympic History just doing what they do best,

WINNING!!!!

I must say I've never been impressed with the 'medals' obsession.

Probably resulted from living in Australia for all of the seventies and part of the eighties. The Australians have an unfortunate habit of shooting their mouths off before an event and then finding themselves having to literally 'eat crow' vis a vis "Faaaaaark, said the crow." And then the unseemly blame games start.

There was an awful fat little fellow commentating on ABC television. His name was Norman May. God's gift to sport but I don't think he ever played any. He was simply appalling.
