Killer Greens

The Greens killed 173 people and injured 414 Australians in 2009 by way of what are known as the Kinglake fires.   They brought about the deaths and injuries by introducing council bylaws requiring the planting of trees close to buildings in fire prone hill country in Victoria.

Now it seems their lunacy has spread to the United States where forest fires in Colorado have killed a number of people, injured many and destroyed thousands of homes.  The American Greens were a little more subtle in their approach to degrading the population.  They blocked all moves by authorities to carry out remedial logging in pine forests.  Remedial? I hear you ask.  Yes, remedial.  An insect pest has killed off twice as much Amreican pine forest as is lost each year in Brazil and the only way to control the pest is to remove its habitat (contiguous tree canopies) and mill 'bug breaks - like fire breaks.  Further, milling of already dead trees removes the flammable material without which forest fires do not prosper.

The Greens prevented all these common sense measues.

Is it any wonder Adolf calls them the Killer Greens?

Far worse and more dangerous than any other parasite yet known to man.

And your response Joshwa to the fact that millions have died from malaria as the direct and unequivocal result of the Green inspired ban on DDT is?

Joshwa said...

My response is if you think that's a legitimate statement you don't know the first thing about science.

You really think the USA would ban a way to make a shitload of cash without a f**king good reason? And if you think the Greens there have the power to inspire a ban on a profitable chemical you also don't know the first thing about the USA.

And hopefully gave him a whisky for telling the truth.

NZ had a remarkably similar experience 60 years ago. During the 30s to the mid 40s the huge pine plantations of the Volcanic Playeau enjoyed 13 years of above average rainfall, ie about 4-6 inches per month, but in 1946 the area slipped into drought and summer rain dropped to less than 2" per month.. you will undoubtedly recall the Taupo fires of 1946 when 30,000 acres of pine forest burned down around Taupo?

Anyway, Global Warming remained over the area for 1946-49 and there was severe drought. This somewhat weakened the close planted pines and made them susecptable to the wood wasp Sirex noctilio which destroyed 25-50% of the trees over many thousands of acres.

The answer then, as well as now, was too thin the overpopulated pine stands to reduce moisture competition and make the trees less suscetable to Sirex. Fortunately for Kaingaroa and Forest Products, an ice age began in the early 50s and rainfall increased.. so the Sirex epidemic went away.

This scenario is playing out in the US.. again. Years of drought causing tree susceptability which allows the pine beetle to cause problems followed by natural fires of vastly greater danger and intenisity since the days when the Indians burnt the vegetation to maintain the ecosystem.

Its the same sort of story in Australia where the Aborigines have tens of thousands of years experience in using fire to maintain the ecosystem.

Ah Joshwa, I think it is you that has the selective memory when it comes to killer Green campaigns.

The fires are caused by the pine beetle which are caused by a lack of cold winters to kill them off which means instead of a single generation of pine beetles you can have multiple generations in a single year and many of these beetles persist into the following year to help kick start the population at quite high levels. The greens didn't cause the global warming which allows this, you ought to at least consider initial responsibility.

Many of those on this thread have ignored the clear complicity of the very active lobby in much of the 'lucky country' that have caused needless deaths.
Promulgating and enforcing rules that prevent actions that to one with a reasonably long experience of fire, controlled, out of control and in recent years as a volly trying to put fires out are a complete nonsense.
Fire needs Fuel, Oxygen and heat to burn.

I have anecdotal evidence of people being prosecuted for removing fuel from areas around dwellings and being fined substantially but after bush fire has destroyed the homes of those who complied with the stupid rules are still living in their 'saved house'.

WOW!!! How many pine forests are there in Brazil?

I follow US politics and news and Adolf is absolutely correct. Joshwa has no idea of how the leftist greens have disabled the US economy and destroyed more of the environment than any other group

I wortked in the Central Coast for a while a few years ago. The area has a lot of gum trees (as you could expect). I was amazed how overgrown some residential areas were but was told you dare not touch the trees. The ones I saw fallen over onto houses were those the home owners had been looking to trim because they were looking dodgy for some time before the storm but no, the council said you cannot touch them.

One day the cycle of gums will feature a fire. It will be spectacular. In 2012 we need to manage the risks but the Greens won't let you.

To Michael in Nelson

When you say you follow US politics is that by watching Fox News, Glen Beck and Limbaugh?

-Obama has paralised our economy with socialist, antisuccess Kenyan economic policies, blah blah blah-

I can understand that growing up in the small southern town surrounded by rednecks that you could believe that BS. But if you look in from outside and think the republicans have a sensible message, or that Obama even comes close to being a "green" you're gullible as f**k.

want to make your dishwasher and clotheswashing machines work almost as well as the ones which were made in the 70s?
Use a warm to hot wash, and add a scoop of tri-sodium phosphate to the wash.
