THE RACE FOR THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION

I have previously blogged that neither Romney nor Gingrich would be my preferred candidate to take on Obama in November.

Nevertheless the news that today, Donald Trump came out and endorsed Romney will be a huge boost to his campaign and more to the point will engender a sigh of relief among Republicans that Trump will not enter the fight as a third party candidate which he had threatened to do if the Republicans (in his view) looked like electing a candidate who could not beat Obama.

The Trump money will even up the campaign where it was looking like the Democrats were going to outspend the Republicans.

Meanwhile 'across the ditch' the chattering gets louder by the day.   Is Rudd really preparing to do a Peters and rise Lazarus like from the almost dead?    Strange beast Oz politics where the Qld Labor Premier fighting an uphill battle for re-election tells Gillard her support ain't needed nor wanted ..... and Rudd just keeps on smiling and honing knives.

The Gillard situation is most interesting.
I cannot think of anyone who came back from the dead like it, though didn't John Howard do it?

As for the Republicans, I do wish they would stop attacking eacher and giving ammo to the Obamination.
Considering how Obama has fared with the US economy and with foreign policy, he should be easy to beat.

More wine mummy!

Still unemployed Fairy?

Man I bet that Trump endorsement is worth at least -5 or so. And what makes you think he'll stump up any money? He's out for Trump and that's it. He's a right-winger after all.

Anon 6.00 ... and with the latest projections having US unemployment hitting 9.2% come the election Obama might not even want to run.

Bill Clinton's "It's the economy stupid" may well come back to haunt.

Judge ... Trumps endorsement is interesting on two levels (1) by taking himself out of the running the potential of having him split the Republican vote is lifted and (2) and this is to some degree allied with the first point, Trump has strong links and creds with the Tea Party movement and that can only benefit Romney.

Wrong and wrong guy. If Trump ran as a 3rd party he's get about 12 votes nationwide. American right-wingers are dumb, but not that dumb. Even the tea potty crowd aren't that retarded and they'd vote for Palin.

This is what happens when you live in NZ and the only information you get on the US campaign is through the Associated Press.

Trump has NO credibility among Republicans. None. He was popular for a brief while when he was the only person attacking Obama, but then so was Michelle Bachmann, and she is now long gone.

Trump's endorsement will have the same effect for Romney as that of Dan Quayle, George HW Bush, Bob Dole and John McCain ie. they will force people to wonder what sort of fool they are putting up this year. None of these folks are helping Romney any.
