Paradise has 80 cruise ships due this season and we still have seventy something to go.
So instead of listening to two mature white guys trying to sell themselves as the best option for the role of CEO NZ Inc, accompanied by a bunch of wannabes from academia and the Media I attended a training simulation of a 'Mass Casualty Incident' involving a 'busload' of passengers that had 'collided' with a 'car full of teens'. Total casualties around 20 all of whom we knew would walk away from the exercise as healthy teens not 40 something adults, many with existing conditions and the bus will not be parked on the side of a quiet side road upright and undamaged.
Now we have no wharf facilities to allow the Boat alongside so with the rule of thumb having 1/3 remain on board and 1/3 coming ashore to stroll round the village and the remaining 1/3 taking a coach out of town we have a potential for a serious challenge to our emergency services.
With Lighters or whatever they call them bringing up to 100 passengers at a time to shore then a fleet of buses taking their 1/3 out of town and cruise ships with up to two thousand passengers you will have an insight to what we could face.
Where we are, we will be pretty much on our own for up to about one hour apart from a couple of air crews from CHC with Air one that can take two Patients and the Squirrel that can take one, should the excrement hit the aircon.
It is not "If" it is "When" so we train and IMHO I spent a much more valuable two and a half hours than watching a debate that was a runnaway win to the Red team man over an equally convincing win to the Blue team man in the eyes of their supporters of course.
For me personally I would find it much more valuable to have those who would cast their vote as My representative whether I support them or not to front up and try and convince me and the others in our little Hamlet they have the creds to do the job but sadly we have moved on so many kilometers and years that it it is now all about how the top man performs in the totally artificial environment of a TV studio with a support cast of largely talentless wannabes.
Yes I think I had better things to do last night.
I like to see these poi used in Kapa Haka

With today's technology being both easily accessible and easily used anyone who needs an election campaign to convince them who to vote for should not be allowed to vote - they simply do not have the skills required to make a well considered opinion.
Well done with the training although, from memory, when the boats were coming into Lyttleton (and bigger percentages disembarking) there was not a single major accident so don't get your hopes up.
Of course, instead of training your time would have been far better spent erecting a large sign that could be seen by the coach passengers stating When in Christchurch use BST Cab 276 ;-)
You're absolutely right that the debate made no difference to who was going to vote for whom - except I think the Green team were the biggest losers on the night.
The debate was never going to change a red team supporter to a blue team supporter. However I think Liarbour have done well in this campaign to bolster their crumbling support.
Goof's performance last night may have stopped some of the flight to the Greens.
Paranormal
Getting my hopes up is what we do when we survive another cruise without incident.
Followed a 'Ritchies' coach from the Hilltop to Akaroa on Sunday afternoon, he cut every Rt hand corner, clearly had little concept as to where his rear wheels were and made zero effort to allow his growing tail to pass, Tosser!
BTW he surprisingly didn't cut any Left handers.
Have noted the Cab number, cheers.
