A BAD RESULT FOR MAORI AND LABOUR

With the votes from 133 out of 134 booths counted in the Te Tai Tokerau By-Election Hone Harawiria is leading Labour's Kelvin Davis by 790 votes. This is a bad result for both Maori and Labour.

It's bad for Maori in that all the positive things that are happening in Maoridom will be overshadowed by Hone who will continue to 'look back in anger' and encourage Maori to remain in grievance mode. It is especially bad for Maori in Te TaI Tokerau. They have lost their voice in the corridors of power (if they ever had it). They are now represented by a bit player in the body politik.

It's bad for Labour. Hone has made it clear that the Mana Party will give electoral support to Labour and only Labour. That in itself is sufficient to scare off 'soft' Labour voters. Vote Labour and you get Hone ... wanted or not.

It's a win win for National and a loss loss for Labour.

Over at Kiwiblog, Farrar is stating that this is bad for National, and could lead to a Labour-led government.
Whom to believe?

You's maybe have just a little credibility if you knew the difference between whom and who.

It's a bad result for Maori, a bad result for Liarbore, a bad result for National and a fucking terrible outcome for New Zealand.

The people of Te Tai Tokerau have deliberately inflicted on the rest of New Zealand a boorish, ill-mannered, ill-bred, rude, racist redneck terrorist. The main problem with this result is (if it's repeated in November) it will let assorted other scum into Parliament as well. Bradford? Sykes? Minto? Howzabout we just turn the debating chamber into a shooting gallery and be done with it?

A good result for Gnats and Act.

So that's what happened to Redbaiter.

You're yet another Anonymous coward..knowing Redbaiter as I do, I'd love to watch a scumbag such as you say that to his face.:)

You'd both have to emerge from your mothers' basements first, weirdo.

anontard you need to stop. You're embarrassing yourself. You're maligning people who have contributed more each and every single year of their lives than you have managed your entire miserable existence.

It's ten o'clock tard, you'd better log off and go to bed before your mother catches you.

That's unintentionally hilarious. Russell has spent the past decade on a full time internet crusade achieving precisely nothing. KG's a semi-literate carnival barker who uses abuse in place of argument. They're a pair of sad, angry, impotent old men. No shortage of them around here though eh?

This is just wishful thinking. It ignores the following relevant points:

1. National's supporters voted National and got Harawira. Did it put them off voting National? Not according to the opinion polls.

2. Goff's ruled out working with Harawira, which excludes him from a Labour govt (in the extremely unlikely event one turns up later this year). Does voting National mean you get Winston Peters... wanted or not?

3. Harawira's likely to oppose just as much Labour legislation as National legislation. There isn't actually that much difference between the two major parties, other than that Labour aims for a big public sector and National aims for a low-wage economy.

As to it being a win-win for National, this by-election shows that National's support parties are both coming apart at the seams. I expect those of its strategists who aren't given to wishful thinking will be somewhat concerned about that. Admittedly, they've done something about ACT by taking it over, but their proxies aren't proving any more popular than the previous incumbents.

Will Hone become the poster-boy for the MMP campaign?

Will he be sitting on his mothers lap in the debating chamber, she seems to be with him constantly, whiping his chin and whispering in his ear?

Given that he's an electorate MP who just won a FPP by-election... no.

Oh no!

No Minister now has it's very own RG (clone?).

It might only be for a week, though.

Sorry, just had to quote this for truth. Brilliant my man.
