Good News

Private insurers are to be invited to compete with ACC for workplace accident cover.

Watch for the howls of anguish from the socialists.

Helen Clark closed out private insurers as soon as she gained power in 1999. Some say this was an ideological decision but wiser analysts know the decision was political. Ideology requires principles and if there's one New Zealanders have learned from Wikileaks, it is that Helen Clark has no principles apart from 'whatever it takes to gain and hold power.

ACC was brought back into the gummint fold for one purpose. To provide a sink hole in which to park beneficiaries so that she could tell the people what a fine job she was doing reducing the number of people on benefits.

Adolf sincerely hopes Nick Smith and Co set the deal up properly so that ACC can not be hijacked by Labour for a second time.

When the Nats allowed an alternative back in 1990s they ensured that employers had to pay off "the tail." The tail was a sum which had evolved from stuff-ups and exorbitant largesse by ACC since its inception. The tail would have been cleared by 2112. There'll be another tail this time.

I disagree about motive. I think it was a cash cow (accounting can make numbers say alot of things that may not be true) and allowed control of a lot of otherwise independant people. Parking beneficiaries was an accidental side show. Power and control are the things, the only thing. When we have peole like that in charge, left or right, we are destined for destruction.

I disagree. You always have power and control via legislation.

Nope, not a sausage Adolf and its foolish to think otherwise. We are all pawns in a game and I don't much like games where one side makes all the rules and changes them if they look like losing.

So, a re-run of the 1990s then. Labour will kill this insurers' cash cow as soon as they get back in power, so enjoy it while it lasts - which will be 3 to 6 years.

Re "Helen Clark has no principles apart from 'whatever it takes to gain and hold power," Gantt Guy has pointed out the rather obvious irony, but yeah - what he said.

pm - hopefully it is longer than 3 to 6 years and this will be well embedded and functioning as it should so it will be political suicide to repeal it.

anon 3.14pm. - this is not a failed idea - it was stupidly killed off by Clark and co before it was properly embedded in 1999. I was working in the industry at that time and while there were some expected teething problems all was on the right track until........

Along came Clark.

Oh dear, Milt's agreeing with me. I feel like I need a shower. Or mebbe to break out the emergency supply of Conservatism.

Adolf, this move might be a small light on a very dark night. This announcement aside, what is the point of having a National government when all they are doing is implementing Liarbore's policies? I sincerely hope this is a small step back towards the vision and values that National claims it stands for, but while I hope I don't expect. I wonder if Hone Key has ever even glanced at National's Vision and Values?

The shameful back-down over mining the conservation estate. The ETS. The EFA. The disgusting pandering to racist separatists. These are not the actions of a government of principal. They are what we expect from Liarbore.

Am I not right to hold a National government to a higher standard?

We all know the government of that vile creature Clark was an abomination. An affront to decency, if you will. We also all know that at some point, the sheeple of New Zealand, most of whom are too stupid to know any different, will swap out the blue team for the red. Is it too much to expect that during its tenure the blue team will have repaired at least some of the damage the she-beast and her minions caused during their reign?

And in closing, I think you have Manolo and I both pegged incorrectly. I suspect I speak for him when I say I am deeply disappointed by the government of Hone Key. I would love to be able to give National my electorate vote (which I did in 2008), but given the way they have squandered my good-will, they can not expect my largesse in 2011.

There will be pay clerks all around the country saying "Oh no not again".

Perhaps the gung-ho National idealogical warriors should recall Colin Powells advice to George Bush before the Iraqi war.

"You break it, you own it"

Anon (12.04) how much more fucking broken can it get?
