Economic Sabotage

So the unions have succeeded and forced the filming of The Hobbit out of New Zealand.

How much lost GDP does that represent? A billion each year? For maybe three years or so, just when the recovery desperately needs a boost.

How many lost jobs does that represent? Two or three thousand? Counting all the down steam jobs.

Where are the howls of outrage from the antique media? From the gutless leader of the opposition? So far, not a whisper. All they seem interested in is sand castles and fostering the Maori language.

This looks very much to Adolf like economic sabotage, carefully orchestrated by the trade unions' leader Andrew Little who is carefully positioning himself for a political career and desperately needs to stifle any chance of an economic recovery.

Never underestimate the disloyalty and treachery of the left.

What a spectacularly entertaining planet you live on! If only you had a single shred of evidence you would actually look slightly less divorced from reality, but then what fun would that be?

What fun is watching enterprise flow out of this country? To you, Holden, possibly a lot!

So called film industry just another bloody commodity.

Commodities are easy to sell but you have to take the price.

Umm no. How stupid are you exactly Cadwaller?

Holden:A typical ad-hominem attack from a leftie product of NZ. I ask a rhetorical question delved from your own post and this is what one receives.

For you: "How pompous are you Holden?"

For the record; Adolf's surmise may well be a superbly founded possibility.

No you didn't, as your question couldn't be reasonably assumed from by comment. That's why I suspect you're an idiot.

"Adolf's surmise may well be a superbly founded possibility.

Really? What is it "superbly" founded on? He's presented, as usual, nothing to support his suggestion. He shouldn't stop doing it though, it's very funny.

Adolf, I'm not sure you can point this towards deliberate economic sabotage (although the conspiracy theorist in me loves it).

This is merely the ultimate goal of all unions; the destruction of their employer.

But I'm sure that Red Alert can come up with some positive spin.

Adolf - you are loosing readership because we are tired of having to plough through predicatable and idiotic comments, and ad hominem attacks from some brainless leftwing POS who has never contributed to any constructive dialogue.

BTW - RIP doesn't work unless the poster has an identity, so that is not an option.

Unions are just bludgers off the sweat of the workers. Look at the way they exploit my brown brothers ignorance.Heck the SFSW union have done eff all for their members except use them for money and political purposes.
Its just disgusting.
I reckon losing The Hobbit will do more harm to unions than good. Talk about an own goal but what do you expect from such blind ideologues.

Good post Adolf and the unions and their fellow travelers are desperately trying to evade the exposure of their stupidity in allowing the Australian union movement destroy what had been a great adjunct to our total economy.
I would just love to see some detailed analysis of the total balance sheet for the out come of this 18th century unionist led economic sabotage.
Not content to steal all the gold at Delih the bastards have now destroyed around a Billion of our economy.

I guess this anti-union wank-fest is much more comforting than the rather more prosaic but much more likely explanation that NZ was undercut on tax breaks and labour costs by other countries. The MEAA is pretty much just a convenient scapegoat for Warners to direct the bad press at.

So, yes, more fool MEAA for handing it to them on a plate - however, "the unions" are as much to blame for this as "the employers" were for Enron.

Anonymous said...

Is this an example of CER in operation? If so, maybe we would be better to struggle on alone.

I suspect that PM is correct about tax being an issue. It is potentially ironic that government's love of tax is being undone by competition for work. Let's hope this is the start of even bigger reforms.

I liked that Ms Kelly wouldn't front up to workers. Coward.

Let's see very simply.

With LOTR: $500 million budert in NZ: tax component say $150 Million directly, plus income tax on say $300 million (say $50 Million) plus GST on spend say another $50 million - total: $250 million. "Tax Incentive" of 15% pays back $75 million to Warners. NZ Govt clears $175 Million. Another $200 Million-odd is injected directly into the economy as wages and salaries.

Without LOTR: NZ govt gets nothing. No-one is employed. Weta, Weta Digital and 3 foot 6 close.

THANK YOU LABOUR!!! THANK YOU UNIONS!!! THANK YOU PHIL!!!

Thrilled now, "taxpayer" ?

I agree with Adolf I see the very capable motivational and organisational ability of Andrew Little in organising and co-ordinating the many current industrial upsets in key areas. There are many dupes at lower levels who are putting their own jobs at risk.. The cancellation of the Hobbits in NZ will be a triumph to the Socialist saboteurs.

So, a bunch of forgetable two-bit actors bugger things royally; As PM wrote there are other factors but this mob handed it to them on a plate.

Here's a auggestion 'actors': go and read the daily newspapers; note the unemployment figures and disruption in France, UK, Germany, Spain, Greece, the USA.

Done that? OK? It's not a bloody script, it's real life. People and countries are really up against the wall and NZ needs to get it into their head that this will be happening here. So take your narcissitic third rate attitude and shove it. There are others in the industry who will now suffer because of your self-important, petulant, pratlike attitude.

Oh and tell your soap opera sponsors they are wasting their money advertising on your crap shows. You and your efforts are entirely forgetable.

The Gantt Guy said "This is merely the ultimate goal of all unions; the destruction of their employer."
and it's no wonder I misread your nick as 'Galt guy'! What fevered conspiracy theories disturb your dreams? Do you too have a company teetering on the brink of collapse? Do you also yearn to blame the unions when you're in receivership? Does your blonde teen receptionist brandish her spotty teen boyfriend on your face? Do you fantasise that the CTU is out to get you, in order to avoid your own responsibility?

seems like an opportune time to cut the artists category from the dole given these people have so much work on and very little need of new work, so one can safely assume that there is no need for state assistance either.

The Gantt Guy said...

Debbie, Debbie, Debbie, the conclusions you jump to. It is, in fact, the ultimate goal of unions to redistribute from the employer (with whom rests all of the risk) to the employees. The evidence of this is written from one end of New Zealand to the other. The logical conclusion of ripping the maximum possible funds from the employer and giving it to the employees is that the business goes broke.

Where do you see this Baxter? Why is it all you guys are happy to squawk any wild-eyed conspiratorial nonsense and then whine like little girls (hi MAWM) when you're questioned on it? Get real ladies.

Interesting that you're all so afraid of Andrew Little though.

It's this kind of perceptive and insightful analysis that makes the right-wing blogosphere so valuable.

This whole situation sucks - but a quick moment of levity for those who are predicting the closing of Weta. Even if the production moved offshore, the digital effects and post production would still be handled by Weta.

This is about the only positive I can drag out of this sorry mess. I don't know anyone from the actor's side but I have several friends involved on the production side.

Looks very much like puppetmastery from Australia - not quite sure where Adolf gets Andrew Little's involvement from.

A bunch of industrial terrorists.

perhaps but don't be too sure. Even if they stayed for (some of) the hobbit, they are simply nonviable without the rest of the pipeline here. Those guys can move, and the next time they need to replace the servers they can do that in Dublin or Tallinn or Bangalore much more quickly and cheaply than they can in Wellington.

Fact of the matter is: the industrial terrorists have f**ck*d it over for everyone

There is now no way in hell any new film work of any kind will come to NZ. None. Even if we doubled the subsidy - the industrial terrorism of the unions is far, far worse.

The big companies will go to wherever the cheapest labour is irrespective of what a local actors union might want.

Anonymous 10:19: You're that bloke that goes about stating his often crazy opinions as fact right? The little pearls of wisdom in bold give it away.

No more international film work, ever, in New Zealand? I'll bet you, say, five bucks that you're wrong.

The unions blew it, after a week long terror attack via the CTU, EPMU, PPTA etc the actors union decided they too deserved a piece of the limelight.

Pity that they underestimated the situation and looks like they blew it completely.

If you don't want the films shot here be honest about it, but pretending that this tiny union has validity with its remarks is really quite stupid. We all know from the language coming out from members of the CTU etc that they are not interested in businesses welfare, they are in it to bring down capitalism.

I personally don't care if NZ lose The Hobbit, if they bring it to Pinewood studios in England I will directly benefit from it, as I would if it moved to the Czech Rep. We have unions here too and most of them are also pretty militant - but they will be very happy to accept the work that you lot obviously don't want.

Milt and Holden... what do you say to losing all the investment both physical and "potential tourism" that NZ will lose because of this disaster?

Times like this make me wonder why we don't simply bill unions for their economic impact on society and the economy. That would teach them a lesson.

Anonymous said...

Someone who can't read. Which part of freedom from terrorism is more important than price and taxation?

Doesn't matter of NZ gets paid in cents not dollars, and charges zero tax. After this kind of industrial terrorism, no film company will ever want to come to NZ.

Why are you asking me that? I simply pointed out that Adolf's conspiracy theory about this being Andrew Little's doing was typically evidence free. Why can't you guys get that?

Anyway Clint are you saying you're in favour of chucking massive tax concessions the way of film-makers? Are you all for picking winners all of a sudden?

Um..the real saboteur here is not the MEAA directly...its that stupid, arrogant "actress" called Robyn Malcolm.

SHE was the one who joined the MEAA and got others to do so, SHE is the one with the track record of disruptive, envious whinging and whining (over Outrageous Crap being filmed in the USA).

SHE is the one who allowed the negative influence of the avowed Marxist and industry destroyer Simon Whipp to enter into this.

SHE is the one who should be publicly flogged... Helen Kelly is merely a unionist so she has no trouble playing the lying game.

Robyn Malcolm is stupid and arrogant - a dangerous mix as she can't even RECOGNISE when she's lying - its all a script to her.

But you won't see the media beating her up - she's "too lovely". Bullshit. She's a complete selfish idiot.

And all of the "Warner's are bad" folk - heres a test:

take half of your savings (and half of your friends savings too) out of the bank. Find a start up company, put all these savings in their bank account and tell them to go for it, then agree to meet with a "union" that represents 2% of said companies workforce and want the right to tell you exactly how you should spend YOUR money. And watch as you and friends savings go down the gurgler - and apparently its all your fault.

Until you have done that and actually put your nuts on the block, you might get listened to.
All care and no responsibility - thats the union way these days.

and its going to cripple our country like it did in the late 70s early 80s
