With LOTR: $500 million budert in NZ: tax component say $150 Million directly, plus income tax on say $300 million (say $50 Million) plus GST on spend say another $50 million - total: $250 million. "Tax Incentive" of 15% pays back $75 million to Warners. NZ Govt clears $175 Million. Another $200 Million-odd is injected directly into the economy as wages and salaries.
Without LOTR: NZ govt gets nothing. No-one is employed. Weta, Weta Digital and 3 foot 6 close.

The unions blew it, after a week long terror attack via the CTU, EPMU, PPTA etc the actors union decided they too deserved a piece of the limelight.

I personally don't care if NZ lose The Hobbit, if they bring it to Pinewood studios in England I will directly benefit from it, as I would if it moved to the Czech Rep.
