Not One But Two.......

........by-elections looming for Labour.

The intelligent rats are leaving the ship with Winnie Laban bailing out to pursue a career in the halls of academe.

This should make for a most interesting by-election in the Mana electorate just north of Wellington. In 2008 Hekia Parata put up a spirited challenge with barely 2,500 separating the party votes for Labour and National. Clearly Ms Laban had a strong personal following and Labour may well struggle to attract an anywhere decent candidate.

What ever money Labour doesn't have to fight by-elections now has been divided by two Now they have only half of bugger all to fight in Mana and Te Atutu when Prissy Chrissy finally gives up.

Brother Ken well known through league and rugby may be a strong contender.

Mana = Porirua = Labour.

It's the Mangere of Wellington.

A corpse would win Mana provided it came complete with a red rosette.

Come to think on it the winner will probably be brain dead anyway.

Nuff said.

What's the bet that Andrew "Three-Hats" Little will suddenly discover his island roots. It would be a seat for life.

The Veteran is correct. You could put a goat there with a red ribbon on it and they would vote for it.

Porirua both east and Titahi Bay end more than takes out ant National enclaves. Shame really as the area could really do with some self pride.

Personal requirements for Labour candidate for Mana

Brown
Unionist
Homosexual/Lesbian

Two out of three is a shoe in.

There is no chance Little or Twyford taking over there.

The Vet is right - the intereting thing is what sort of dent National can make. They should go all out here.

pdm, you missed the fourth essential:-

Secondary school teacher.

@ pdm - the Mana electorate is filled with deeply conservative, God-fearing Pasifika people. An openly gay candidate would be deeply offensive to many of them.

They also said the same about the party vote in Mt Albert until Shearer romped home. You tories have short memories.

"It would absolutely be winnable if only nett taxpayers were eligible to vote" - that is just out and out racism - I work with a lot of very hard-working people from the heart of Porirua - the average person in Porirua has a job; is hard-working, law-abiding and a credit to society - comments like that are just pathetic and ignorant

@ bluemoon. Maybe that's true and if so I was wondering why they would habitually vote for the Animal Farm Labour party we have today?

Absolutely. And people like that don't vote Labour - and the party vote count bears that out. The problem is the people in Mana who vote Labour - by definition they aren't like that.

Glad to see that useless woman going away. It's about time.
