The Appalling Herald

The Reserve Bank makes a slight adjustment to the OCR, which adjustment has been long expected and predicted by commentators and the good old tabloid herald hits the headline button with:

Bollard Hikes OCR to 3%

Judith Collins is absolutely right in her observation that the media is largely responsible for the loss of respect shown by the public to the police. When police are continually referred to as cops, when police actions during pursuits are constantly sensationalised with not a mention of the fact that the people being chased are actually BAD BASTARDS who have defied the lawful instruction of an officer, then it is no wonder that eventually respect is eroded.

What surprises me most is that people who should know better would argue that she's wrong.

The same cheap shots are now being used to denigrate the Reserve Bank.

What makes me lose respect is not seeing the word cop in an article but police brutality, abuse of their power and police actually committing crimes. The type of reporting you are talking about does little to affect the reputation of cops. I also struggle to listen to her on police respect now anyway since discovering her definition of it is fear which she has been quoted for multiple times.

Rob Carr, the word you are looking for is 'many' not multiple.

Your last sentence is unintelligible gibberish.

but blatant politicisation of the police force by Labour and Unionists (exhibit 1001 - the pathetic response to the communist protests outside the National party conference).

Arm the police; set them to go after the real economic criminals - Labour, Greens, Unionists, protestors, and other assorted leftists,
and then they will be worth respet.

WOW just WOW.

So the problem is not actually that some officers beat and pepper spray helpless innocent people in the cells (innocent meaning the have not been convicted before a court) but that it's the media fault in scrutinising their actions (whose role it is in a FREE and DEMOCRATIC society).

To oppose the media's role is to oppose these values.

PS I hope that police will arbitrarily detain you for some imagined traffic infringement, you give them a bit a lip like the self-rightous twat you are and they proceed to test out their newly issued tasars and pepperspray on you.

Maybe the MSM and pollies need to learn about objectivity and subjectivity.

Objective – is a statement that is completely unbiased. It is not touched by the speaker’s previous experiences or tastes. It is verifiable by looking up facts or performing mathematical calculations.

Subjective – is a statement that has been colored by the character of the speaker or writer. It often has a basis in reality, but reflects the perspective through with the speaker views reality. It cannot be verified using concrete facts and figures.

Anon, WOW just WOW

In fact from time to time I have been arbitrarily detained, as you put it, for some traffic infringement but, unlike you, I have enough fucking brains to refrain from 'giving them lip.'

You must be a Southlander. I see your DHB is to cease offering brain surgery. No wonder. Nobody on whom to operate.

"refrain from 'giving them lip"

I refrained even when the officer made up a number to issue another speeding ticket and only backed off when the couple riding with me mentioned that the hubby worked in the high court.

And when an officer made up a number to issue a speeding ticket but backed off when he saw the radar detector and knew I knew he was there and wasn't speeding.

And the time I handed a thief to them on a plate and they did nothing.

I think when they reduce the job to prime time TV and a numbers game (which they will cheat in) they cheapen themselves.

You mean the very same officers who were themselves found innocent of any charges?

It's always strange how people like anon who bleat on about how hard done by they are and how unfair the Police seem to get stopped and targetted with such monotonous regularity you would almost think that it might be their driving/riding rather than a vast Police conspiracy that is the cause of all their troubles...

But no, why should people like anonymouse take any responsibility for their own actions, much easier to whine like a pathetic child and blame everyone else for their problems.

Funnily enough I have been driving for 30 years and not once had a cop arbitarily stop me and just invent some speed so he could full his 'quota' strange that.
