The Wisdom of Adolf

Our less somnolent readers might recall some weeks ago there was spirited discussion here and elsewhere on the merits of MMP and the manner in which it should be amended to render it somehow 'better.'

The news yesterday of Winston Peters' attempt to thrust his odious carcass back onto the political stage brings into stark relief those discussions. Then it was theory, now suddenly it is reality. The turd is attempting to rise from the sewer and, like the parasite it is, worm its way back into the nation's large intestine where once again it can feed on our hard earned digestive nutrients while the host wastes away.

Yes it will happen. He will be back. You bet he will. There are two inevitable driving forces.

First, our supplicant media will fail in its duty to squash this preposterous crook. In fact, to a man, they will fawn around him and give him all the publicity he wants, for free, because their editors think Winston will sell papers for them and improve their ratings. He doesn't need much money, just so long as he has enough uselful idiots in the media.

Second, there are enough dimwits like 'barry' who will not only vote for the vacuous clown but probably send him $100 to support his campaign. Just go and have a look around some of the recent comments threads here and there. New Zealand must be rated number one in the OECD for the proportion of it's population dumb enough to vote for a flash satin sack full of corrupt smelly dog shit.

When you've finally woken up to the awful reality just remember the wisdom of Adolf.

Adolf is THE ONLY commentator who recommended increasing the party vote threshold from 5% to 10%, with the express purpose of shutting out disastrous idiots like Peters and Locke.

I sincerely hope the Gnats have enough on Peters to knock him over once and for all this time round.

Getting rid of MMP would be a better move.

Letting the productivity commission confirm parties is a far better move.

ANd of course, going to a taxpayer franchise.

There is his credit card spending to come.

I do my small part by emailing, where I can, every journalist that interviews Peters asking them why they did not question him about the stolen $158,000 yet to be paid back.

You and I agree on very little Adolf, however, on this we are united.

Oh...BTW, I have been calling for an increase from 5% to 10% for a couple of years now, like you I see this as vital to rid our parliament of the tails that keep wagging the dog, if it also means an end to the likes of Locke and Delahunty then that is an added bonus.

The wisdom of Adolf

Synonymous with . . .

The impartiality of DPF
The integrity of The Standard
The intelligence of Fairfacts Media
The restraint of Whaleoil
The compassion of Cactus Kate

I wonder which, if any charities, actually got a share of teh $158,000 he said he'd given them isntead of repaying taxpayers?

Requiring organisations to have considerably more than the paltry 500 minimum membership we have now before they can register as a political party would also help.

There's a word for arranging the electoral system to favour some voters over others - it's called gerrymander. With the example of the Maori seats in front of us, the idea of building additional gerrymanders into the electoral system surely doesn't appeal to anyone who actually values democracy?

Homepaddock ... I would love to know the name of the charity who handed back the money as tainted just so I could make sure I supported them in their Appeal.

National should just come out and state they will never form a party with Winister Peters and a vote for Winston is a vote for Labour/Greens.

Mark ... 10 gets you 1. They will if they have to but right now it's only giving oxygen to Winston when really someone needs to turn of his respirator.

It wasn't the Gnats who knocked him over the last time Adolf. It was Mr Hide on his own.

And that's while he was MP for Epsom, leading a party back from oblivion, and getting almost 4% of the party vote while fending off the knives from Heather Roy.

Yep. And NZ's current electoral system has the Maorimander and what I guess we can call the bludgermander.

So it's no surprise at all the mess NZ is in - policies flow directly from the electoral system.

Look at the UK results:

polls: Labour are in third place on 28%, with the Lib Dems on 30% and the Conservatives on 33%.

predicted result Labour 276 seats; Conservatives 245 seats; Lib Dems 100 seats; Others 29 seats.

call that a democracy? think that helps productive reform of the economy?
