Fairness and Whanau Ora

Last week the Aunty of a tragically murdered boy asked the question

Why is life so unfair?

The fact is that “unfair” is the human default. Always has been and always will be.
Whether it is in life, on the sports field, in business or on the political stage, all eventually end up in a natural state of unequalness.

Sure we have good sportsmanship but that is more to do with good manners.

The weird thing is that socialism, sold as giving everyone a fair slice of the pie, achieved the exact opposite.

The best we have is democracy, where we can but hope that everyone has some freedom and opportunity to succeed on their own merits.

People who use the word fair to give credence to their latest argument, do so only because they are lacking any logical means to win you over.

Remember that the next time you hear some left wing politician harping on, especially about progressive taxes, welfare, minimum wages and any other fair cause they can cram into their briefcase.

The fairness they are selling is really only their unjust right to spend your money on their make believe fairy world. A world where apparently, if you vote for them long enough, bad things won't happen to you.

In the real world, bad stuff happens because people either choose to do the wrong thing at the wrong time or they put their destiny in the hands of others.

You can be murdered by being on the wrong street at the wrong time.
You can hand over your life savings to a financier as a recession hits.
You can put your future in the hands of a bureaucrat/provider whose only real interest is in cashing their weekly salary cheque.

I suspect that Whanau Ora will fall into this latter category.

The Maori Party solution, that only state funded intervention can solve their problems, is also actually the problem.

The State will keep putting band aids over the true consequences of people's actions. Because that is all they can ever do. Plus selling bandaids is a profitable business - for politicians, civil servants or private provider.

Who knows, maybe Maori will get a better world from WO but don't expect a fairer one any time soon. It doesn't exist.

Personal responsibility is the only solution. For all of us.

"Personal responsibility is the solution."

Yep--and to foster that, we need to get Nanny out of our lives.

Lou, I suspect that is your best post ever.

It also reminds us all of another saying - the poor are always with us.

Nope. Because I bet you haven't got the guts to let the poor, stupid, the young & the old starve.

That's why singapore style family responsibility is so much better.

You are legally responsibility for you kids, and your parents, and extended family too. You are legally responsibile for the actions of political groups you join.

If you can't afford to feed themselves - you parents (or kids) have to pay up.
If you can't afford health care - ditto,
If your teenager nicks a car or does some graffiti - you are responsible!
If you husband turns out to be a fraudster - you are responsible.

If a group behaves like a trade union - all members are responsible!
If a group commits $10 million criminal damage of government property by smashing a spy based - all members and supporters of the group are responsible.
IF a political party rorts 5 elections over 12 years, all MPs and members and voters are responsibile.

Singapore. Where lefty scum aren't allowed to exist.

Sounds like collectivist shit to me.Singapore is a dictatorship...a sudo police state.

Sure you should be legally responsible for your kids...after all you made them. But your parents and extended family? What about their rights to live as they choose....and what about yours not to be enslaved to them?

Which part of: responsibility don't you get.

Right are ultimately fucking lefty ideas - that's why the libs are lefties at heart.

Real right-wing policies are based around responsibility, not rights.
