The Phil U Test

Gooner has coined the phrase below - the Phil U Bill.
Well another phrase would be - the Phil U Test.
Because I get the gut feeling that Paula Bennetts so called welfare reforms will turn out to be mostly academic.

The DPB is a lifestyle choice for many people, so the Phil U Test will be to see what he actually is doing in a year or even two from now.
My bet is nothing different, for him and countless others.
Apart from popping out more babies to ensure they always have one under 6.

I know several people from South Korea and they all tell me the same thing.
After the war they had two options.
Work or starve.
The fact that they are alive and rich tells you something.

Lou, I think you will find, as at least one other blogger has found, that there will be particular attention focused on his case.

In fact I think you can guarantee that Phil will be held up as a poster boy for the policy in the weeks before the next election.

apologies Gooner

I will be happy if that is the case Adolf but I won't be holding my breath.
My biggest concern is not so much with idiots like Phil U but the thousnads of women who will continue to have babies to ensure that they always have a child under 6. Bennett sounded very unconvincing on radio last night saying that this wouldn't happen.

It is human nature to take full advantage of any niche. And governments are experts at creating niches.

China has no welfare and no income tax. That is why it has GDP growth per annum of 8-12%, year on year. They work, and they work bloody hard. Families support each other, and they are industrious. They also have no debt, are not allowed credit cards and hold trillions in foreign reserves.

Meanwhile, the West drowns in debt, suffocates in welfare and trade unions and has a ridiculously high divorce rate and family breakdown.

Not hard to see who the winner is here.

What you say might also explain why New Zealanders are so resistant to immigrants from North Asia:

"They work, and they work bloody hard."

And they show a lot of New Zealanders up ...

Well then what makes you so sure the trillions the Chinese hold in foreign reserves will ever get paid back?

Yeah, I wish we got to live in an authoritarian police state run by the Communist Party, that would be so much cooler than what we have now. Are you really recommending China as a model for us, Gooner?

China does, in fact, have income tax (it is progessive and raises about 500 billion dollars a year in government revenue) and a welfare system (state owned unemployment insurance, communal pensions etc). Got any more?

Dim.

"(state owned unemployment insurance, communal pensions etc). "

Into which presumably people pay premiums and later draw benefits?

Have YOU got any more?

If Chinese had to pay tax at the same rate as NZers, they would probably revolt.

For DPB people they are NOT scared there are no jobs out there for them, they are scared there are.
