Thriving?

I guess the question that has to be asked is

Has ACT really thrived?

They have certainly survived but as for thriving, this can really only be measured in poll results.

We won't really know if either Hide or Douglas are right until the next election.

And that election is going to be a tough one, especially as the voters are also going to be also considering the fate of the minor party lifeline - MMP.

The ACT brand is hog-tied to the Hide brand and whilst that has been their greatest strength it is also their greatest weakness.

No matter who is right, any party which continues with the wishy washy "Liberal" byline is a party that is still campaigning with a last century mindset.

Yes....It should be "Freedom Loving Libertarians"....or piss off.

Anything else is just another big Government tax raping wank fest...who needs it?

Gee Rodney should really take your advice and adopt that as the Act Party slogan James. It'd do wonders for their support. They might hit 1%.

Act's MP's have certainly thrived. Business Class holidays and junkets for them and their wives and girlfriends covered by taxpayers. Great time had by all. But hey they're entitled right?

You bet it's wishful thinking - Key will be trying to head that off as quickly as possible.

Consider - the auditor general investigates and finds almost the entire Cabinet has been ripping us off. She also finds that the previous Labour Cabinet was ripping us off. Well, Heatley's set the example - resignation is required. So, OK then - most of the current Cabinet have to resign their ministerial portfolios immediately, and the Labour troughers from the previous govt have to... er, resign their ministerial portfolios immediately. Who comes out worst off?

Good point Psycho Milt,
Ah,, except that National may well "look" honourable while Labour will look as expected.

Just imagine the results of multiple by-elections.
Imagine the public perception pressures on all MP's.

The polls would go to new heights.
And it would be a very long time in the wilderness for some.

Heatley was a wimp who was let go by Key.
For good reason.

Crap. The current cabinet are snow-white compared to the last bunch of crooked crims!

and the Labour troughers from the previous govt have to... er, resign their ministerial portfolios immediately.

Go directly to Jail. Do not pass go. Do not claim UN diplomatic immunity.

The police will probably protect them from being lynched once the truth comes out. I guess that's important for our tourist trade, but I think justice is more important.
