Exam question 1

Is the NDU permitted to advertise for a part-time solicitor and say in its ad that the applicant "should be able to demonstrate support for union aims and values from their previous work or community experience", when discrimination on political grounds is prohibited by the Human Rights Act?

In answering this question, readers are advised to take into account the recent case from the UK where the use of the word "reliable" was found to be discriminatory against "unreliable" applicants.

The statement you quote contradicts the last sentence of the advert that records the Union is an equal opportunity employer.
