I have visited quite a few graveyards and cemeteries with him, with my mate who thinks he is some kind of ghostbuster, and yes, we’ve had that song playing many a time on the CD player!
Out of the several hundred photos taken over a fortnight, many did contain orbs. But you never see them in the flesh.
Orbs are a genuine phenomena with various explanations. Are they just some photographic trick caused by water or specks of dust or are they the energy of spiritiual beings? Or something equally ghostly?
Well, they tend not to appear in close-ups, they tend not to appear in the day time, they tend not to like Auckland’s CBD. Barnsley Bill will be pleased to know that they stay well clear of the manor too. The only spirits here being what is kept in the pantry, the fridge and what fills Barnsley’s whisky glasses!
But they did like Mair Park in Whangarei, Parnell Cathedral, Auckland Domain, the pa site near Kerikeri’s Stone Store, the graveyard on the Paihia waterfront, and the cemetery out in the bush about 12kms away from here. They also liked Waiwera, just north of Auckland.
But also it seems they did not like the Waikumete Cemetry in West Auckland, at least in the daytime!
I tend to be quite sceptical about such matters, but my mate has alterted me to something quite interesting, something I cannot fully understand or explain.
Some time back with my other maori mate, I went to his nan’s tangi on the East Cape.
The lights in the marae kept flickering on and off, to signifiy the arrival of visitors, I was told.
My mate kept saying Nan was telling us people were coming, but I believed it was the dodgy electrics.
During the burial the next morning it absolutely pissed it down but moments later as Nan was finally laid to rest, the rain suddenly stopped and the sun came out. I put this down to the passing of a rain-bearing cold front. My mate said it was Nan finally accepting her place in heaven.
Either way, the timings of such happenings fitted either explanation.
So what can we say about these orbs. The times and places they appear seem to fit the ghostly spiritual argument too, even if there might also be a more rational explanation.
But have you seen them for yourself and what did you think?

'Orbs'? Only seen in flash lit pictures? (a clue here) It can be the flash catching/reflecting on very light rain drops or airborne dust. In your case I'd go with reflecting on light rain drops. Anyway...
If these "Orbs" are only seen at night and in the bush or close to the ground and only at damp sites the most likely cause are glow worms.

There was a series called 'Haunted House' on channel 7 staring the medium Derek Acorah. Orbs such as those in the photo were often videod in the haunted castles. According to Acorah they represent residue energy left by the dead. Good program which the makers swear is genuine.

Well, I have just been to see my other Maori mate who warns dabbling with such matters is highly dangerous.
These orbs are indeed wairoa, or spirits, and some can have negative influences and bad things will happen to you.
My friend taking the pictures was advised to see a tohunga to be blessed and cleansed and be told clearly about the dangers he faces.

FFM - I think you might find that the Maori word for spirit is WAIRUA not Wairoa, which is a town between Napier and Gisborne known for conflict between the Black Power and the Mongrel Mob.

Orbs they are not,they are droplets of sweat from the fairies flying in the top and bottom photo's.when the first ghost or alien are captured or someone can turn water into wine in front of scientists then we might believe there really is a TINKERBELL...........
bill hicks, you are too late, old chap. Somebody already did that. At a little town called Caana. You can be sure one or two of the local scientific community were present.
By my calculations he produced around 900 bottles of above average quality wine - probably equivalent to our Penfolds Bin 389 - worth on today's market around $40,000. And that was after the host's booze was exhausted.
They knew how to throw a wedding party (or a scientific conference)in those days.

Orbs are photographic anomalies caused by light from the flash reflecting off of particles in the air. Nothing more. It amazes me what people will believe sometimes.
