The best candidate for the job, by a significant margin.I was sticking to my view that whom the Americans choose to be their President is their business and overall, of little relevance to us, so nothing I need to write a post about. However, I decided on reflection that if Fairfacts Media is going to keep writing posts that declare the American voters so incompetent to elect their own leader that they would elect someone just because he's black, someone here needs to do the decent thing and congratulate Americans on choosing the candidate for the job who was the better contender by far. Congratulations, America - it was a good choice.

Obama will be a disaster for America.
Their choice though.
PM, I am glad that the margin of Obama victory was large enough to prevent talk of stolen elections.
But his supporters committed much voter fraud though not enough to swing the result.
But many people did say they voted on racial lines- because Obama was black.
So for Amercia to expunge itself of racism from the racism of decades long gone, it must vote for a black president regardless of his suitability for office.
Thus Obama gets the support of 96% of blacks. Are you telling me they all did not vote for him because he was black.
I recall that US radio show interview where they interviewed blacks and gave Obama McCain's policy positions on issues like Iraq.
They agreed with these policy positions.
To make it easy, the interviewer told them Palin was his running mate.
They accepted this. They were happy with Palin. They supported McCain's policies and they were voting Obama.
Now, I have condemned Obama on issues of policy and character. I have no prooblem with his skin colour. I see it not as an issue.
I am more concerned America has elected its first socialist president.
Only the left seem concerned with his colour.
As they are with the identity polictics of people's sex and sexuality.
Doesn't it show who the true racists are today?
They are not on the right but on the left.
Anyway, we have our own election to deal with today and tomorrow.
The temptation to jump in and have a spew at FF is great, but Poneke did it well on his blog already, so not going to bother.
Suffice to say well done American public, and what an awesomely gracious concession speech by McCain. If only that spirit permeated a bit deeper...

"Obama will be a disaster for America."
That will be as accurate as your earlier prediction that McCain would win.
Sore LOSER.
But his supporters committed much voter fraud...
Exposed as a lie elsewhere.

You don't seem to get the colour thing at all, FFM. I'll try to explain it.
45 years ago, as you posted yesterday, Martin Luther King said "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." At the time he said this, it would have been impossible for someone black to become president. The other day it became obvious that that no longer applies - a black candidate was elected.
Now, you're twisting this into a kind of either/or situation in which, if racism previously would have prevented a black candidate being elected simply because he's black, obviously anti-racism is now seeing people vote for a candidate simply because he's black. It's a false dichotomy - in fact, the candidate won because he was the better candidate and ran a much better campaign.
And that's where your view makes me grumpy enough to post on it. If Obama had been clearly inferior to the other Democratic candidates in the primaries, and then to McCain in the election, I could see some basis for your attempting to argue liberal anti-racism accounts for his election to president. But that isn't the case - he whupped Clinton's and McCain's asses in those campaigns. For you to try and claim now that he only won because of his race is just ridiculous.
It will of course be true that some people will have voted either for or against Obama simply because he's black, but those people tend to cancel each other out. The majority made a good choice.
Only the left seem concerned with his colour.
If that were true, you wouldn't have made several posts claiming he only won because of his colour, surely?
Why does the word HISTORIC keep getting thrown around by the media for this election result? What's historic about this result other than the candidates skin pigmentation?
Clearly you wouldn't recognise an historic occasion if it rained down from the sky and blew you up oecd rank kiwi.
A bit like kiwi in america over at Farrar's place with his savvy predictions.
You should become a double act. Clueless kiwis!
Now that Obama is elected, he certainly will be tested.
He might have hope, he might have vision.
But does he have the experience to tackle the tough times ahead?
There are the economic tests.
And as Joe Biden noted, Obama will be tested from overseas.
Now, Obama does present a few quandries for Helen Clark.
I saw her in the Herald saying it would be a 'travesty' if New Zealand didn't follow US trends and vote left.
But as FFM noted, Liarbore doesn't like Kiwis to be bossed around by America.
I also see the Liarbore ads talking aboput the need for strong and experienced leadership to tackle the tough economic times.
But if the USA can vote for an inexperienced socialist senator, then surely New Zealand can vote for a two-term MP in John Key, one who actually has real world experience of finance.
So can New Zealand vote for the same change of America?
To quote the blessed ObamaMessiah
YES WE CAN!

Now that Obama is elected, he certainly will be tested.
This I'm sure we can all agree on. I almost feel sorry for him for winning...
He'll need to pay for all the dreams.
the porkbarrel is dry.
the chinese and japanese own it!
The result just shows that people buy on ability not character.
god help america
Lots of fun ahead as Obama disappoints one sector after another.
Well, politic conservatism is as good as buried thanks to McCain and Bush. The world will never vote for conservatism again. Bush was never one to start with, just an impostor who set out on a path to ruin it. Looking back on his 8 years the outcome was nothing conservative. Although the talk was, and that was enough to fool the masses.
The same is happening here with Key. Nice guy but he's killing conservatism.
Bring it on Obama. We deserve what you will bring us. World socialism here we come. Democracy is dying.
I could not give a rip that Obama is black. white or brindle. I have liked and disliked people in all three tints.
What matters to me is character and vision.
My horrid feeling that America has been sold a pup with this lad is based on his associations and accomplishments to date. Show me a man's friends I will show you the man. On the whole this bloke has chancers and creeps for mates. Oh, and Oprah.
Good luck to America. And to the rest of the world, start chanting hopeychangey. It may work for you too.
Democracy the winner???
Confirming the left are even bigger idiots than I could ever imagine. It takes a special kind of detached from reality dumbfuck to come up with a headline so completely arse about face.
This repugnant commie bastard, this slimy extreme left poseur is the biggest danger to democracy and liberty the US has ever faced.
Which is of course why he's adored by the left, who traditionally hate those two ideas.
Ollo Chubb says "Well, politic conservatism is as good as buried thanks to McCain and Bush."
BS Ollo Chubb.
This is the high tide mark for the democrats. They're at the peak of their surge. The Republican's will make gains in 2010 at the next set of elections.
After all, there will be no one else to blame for America's stuffed economy but the democrats.
Democracy is a dangerous weapon.
