Tiger Woods - The US Open

I don’t think Tiger Woods is only one of the best sportsmen ever. I think he is actually one of the best human beings ever.

He is simply indescribable.

I doubt I will see another person like him in my lifetime.

Yep - a true gent. It is a pity other sportsmen can't behave like him.

Yes, I watched him battle his knee and clamber up to the lead. Do you think he might be any good at cricket? In his spare time?

Agreed Gooner - the guy is truly amazing, as I noted in this thread earlier today

I got stuff-all work done this morning - took the laptop out to the lounge, and watched the drama unfold. I've left the laptop out there, so no prizes for guessing where I will be tomorrow morning!

I've been a keen golfer for many years (one that doesn't get to play much), and grew up watching Nicklaus, Player, Palmer, and Ben Hogan.

I was watching the then young players like Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw and so forth.

Tiger Woods is just legendary, and in spite of the achievements of the golfing champions of previous times, Tiger is probably the best.

Seems like a nice guy too.

Could he be the US's first black Presodent?

As long as he is not Muslim or a lefty extremist, I cannot see why not IV2.

There you have the problem: Charismatic, handsome, rich, in the public eye and Gooner declares him "one of the best human beings ever".

But what about all those anonymous people who day in and day out, far away from public scrutiny and adulation do their best to do the right thing.

They'll never be rich or famous or even have their picture in the newspaper.

Some aren't very educated or "upwardly mobile" but not only do they work hard to earn an honest day's pay, when the work day is done they give their time to help others by coaching a youth sports or helping an elderly neighbor.

And that hard earned pay they get? They'll give sacrificially to help someone going through a rough patch or to a charity that helps folks that they see as not as fortunate as themselves.

I'm not knocking Tiger Woods or all the good things he does. And I agree that he seems to handle the wealth, success and public spotlight a lot better than most.

I'm just not willing to nominate him for "one of the best human beings ever" when there are so many ordinary, nameless people who are just as worthy.

BTW - Sunday was Father's Day in the US. Maybe I'm just a being a little touchy because of that.

Golf's fucking boring, but Tiger makes it watchable.

I do agree he's amazing.

The heart to play crocked like this must send other sportspeople to the Nana bin immediately.
