ski season start threatened by...erm...bad weather

Had to smile listening to the radio this morning.
Today's opening of the ski season at Coronet Peak is threatened by ........
Storms bringing wind and snow. A mighty blizzard may force a cancellation.
The resort website blames gales for lifts not operating, though it says it is now snowing.
Here's the webcam.
And to think they've just spent $30 million on new equipment at Coronet Peak.

So much for global warming!
Even Australia has reported early snowfalls, and though the ski industry tends to talk up the scene, it does like we may also be in for a cold , snowy one, as the Sydney Morning Herald notes in this round-up of the NZ ski fields.
Certainly if current cooling trends continue.
But be careful if the cold makes you want to turn up the heating.
We can't have the lights going out, can we?

But FFM - don't you recall David Parker telling Parliament that "I am advised there is a low likelihood that we will have serious electricity shortages this winter—less than 5 percent probability." on 15 April 2008. I do.

As one of Steve Job's mates said, after Al Gore (who's on Apple's board), finished explaining why AGW caused both cold and hot weather:

"Geez, we'd better stop this global warming before we all fucking freeze to death eh?"

Two US explorers plan to start a four-month summer expedition to the North Pole next month to test the depth and density of the ice in summer in a mission sponsored by Greenpeace, the environmental group said.

According to some scientific predictions, the Arctic Ocean could become ice-free in the summer within 100 years.

Unusually heavy snow and ice last year forced the cancellation of a similar mission.

You are clearly not a Kiwi, Fairfacts. Snow is hardly rare in New Zealand mountain regions in June. It is, after all, winter at this time.

The first decent snowfalls of the year are often around Queen's Birthday. My beloved and I hoped for them when we spent last weekend in Christchurch, but sadly, the snow only fell on the mountains to the city's west that weekend. Very pretty though.

David Parker denies the world has stopped warming since 1998

I describe myslf as a Pommiekiwi Poneke as I have two passports.
But I do know June means winter for us folk down here.
I just thought it was quite amusing that the start of the ski season was threatened by the arrival of wintry weather.
Indeed, the skiing was cancelled, last time I checked.
We have heard so much about global warming lately and even the demise of skiing as an industry, especially in the Alps of Europe, that it was wonderful to see the weather up to its old tricks.
Thus, rather than the bare green slopes the warmongers say will become commonplace, the hills were white.
I'm glad you and your beloved enjoyed Christchurch but I warn you, I took the drive up Mt Hutt one summer and it was a beast of a road. I would like it even less with snow and ice on. Maybe it has now been sealed.
I enjoyed Simos restaurant too.
But back to Global warming. The cooling looks set to continue that there may even be snow on the hills around Wellington- I know that happens too- and I'm looking forward to more frost just north of Auckland, which I enjoyed a few days ago.
Dear Leader won't like a cold winter though, it could means the power goes out and her energy policies are revealed as the naked sham that they are.

Are you really so obtuse?

Without wintry weather, there is no ski season.

One needs snow for skiing, and it snows in winter.

There is nothing unusual about snow at this time of the year.

In England, it snows in December because that is when winter starts there. "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas."

No conspiracy at all. Nothing to do with global warming or the government. End of story.

:-)

Poneke, you miss the point.
Amid all the tales global warming, winter arrives as normal.

I am not missing the point at all. My point is that wintry weather and snow is normal in winter.
